great buildings in a unique location, charming staff, complimentary home-made Calvados in your room!
This is a strange place. Trains rattle down the river until late at night: Access is a trial, with steep footpaths paved with angled cobblestones. Disabled customers need to take a look and call ahead if they need the ferry-buggy to take them and their luggage from the car park to the castle. I visited in mid-summer and the activity centre, closer to the road up the hill, was buzzing with screaming kids at 10pm! They didn't intrude too badly, but again, it's wise to factor these issues into your decision about when to visit and what to expect. Even with these eccentricities, I've visited four times in the last ten years.

Absolutely every aspect of the property. I have never had a more wonderful stay anywhere. Beautiful, comfortable, charming, staff was wonderful, food was delicious. The white tomato soup was the best soup I have ever had in my life. We were given sherry in the room, as well as a CD player with medieval type music, and we were transported back in time. We had the most lovely stay, and we are already planning on how to scrounge up money to come back and stay for even longer. The garden area was so beautiful, and we hope to come back during warmer weather to be able to fully enjoy it all. We also wanted to give a shout out to Johann (he was at both the restaurants when we had dinner). He was so pleasant and kind and funny. We were so happy when we got to see him for both dinners.
This is not about the property, but rather that I was unaware that when booking through Booking.com, you do not get to have the half-board meal included in your stay. I may have missed where it stated that, but we were expecting to have the half-board breakfast and dinner all together with our stay, but we were only allowed the breakfast, so dinner was extra money. Again, not the property’s fault, but my own for not understanding it would not be included if you don’t book direct with them.

Everything is really nice about the property. Not just the fabulous location…. The road up to the castle is already an experience…. The castle and the staff were amazing. and its not just that. It’s also the little details in the room that makes the stay wonderful. (And makes you feel the passion of the team and owner) …. The welcome liqueur in the room, the Penhaligon shampoo, body wash AND conditioner (the only hotel in Germany we stayed in that still had conditioner), the feather pen that turns out to be a real pen, the writing paper, etc etc. Dinner at the terrace is good,..to dine at such location amazing.

This hotel is amazing on all aspects, breakfast, view, service, location. Staying in an old castle was simply amazing. We had to leave early before breakfast was available, but we let the front desk know and they had a breakfast plate for us at 6am before we left. The food in the restaurants was exceptional. The hotel layout is a little confusing being that it is an old castle, but they gave us a very nice scroll containing a map. Visit to the castle museum is free with the hotel stay.
There is very little we didn’t like. We did arrive after 7:30 pm so luggage service was not available. They did apologize and said if we could just bring in the essentials they would bring us the rest in the morning. Being in an old castle, it was sort of a steep climb up the drive

I booked this place as a surprise to my girlfriend while also fully expecting a spectacular experience myself. The hotel exceeded my expectations due to the impeccable attention to detail in every regard. Every amenity expected from a 4-star hotel is in place (comfortable and luxurious rooms, great and attentive service, food quality etc) yet it were the little things that made the difference. The TV(s) that are hidden so as to not clash with the ambience, the lighting that is the correct color, the decor, garden, the branded goods, even the pens in the rooms styled as feather fountain pens or the "no smoking" and "do not disturb" signs styled to look medieval. Simply superb.
While the negatives pale in comparison to the positives, there were two things: 1. We booked a suite (31) and the wifi signal in the living room was not incredible with a laptop. 2. Why does Germany insist on providing pillows that are too big and flat to sleep on and comforters that make it an adventure to stay covered throughout the night? Some standard-sized of either would be amazing, thank you!

It was the most magical place I have ever been. My husband and I just booked one night, but I wish we would have done more. The gardens are MASSIVE and contain so many whimsical surprises like tree houses, gazebos, and more. Breakfast was amazing, and the views can't be beat. We were worried about the lack of air conditioning coming from the USA but there was a fan in the room which helped a lot. I would recommend this castle to anyone. Honestly, the price is a steal for all you get.

Charm, charm, charm. How often can you stay in a 1000-year-old castle with WiFi and other modern conveniences? The setting is high above the Rhine, and most rooms have dramatic views. Interior public rooms and most bedrooms have antique or at least antique-looking furnishings. Staff is uniformly friendly and helpful. The included breakfast is a bountiful and variety-filled buffet, plus you can have eggs cooked to order including omelettes. The tower museum is free for guests--you climb up irregular stairs to the top, where the views are amazing. And the very cute butter dishes with a little duck as a handle on the cover can be bought at the reception (28 euros). All in all, a delight to stay.
The water temperature in showers changes from hot to cold and back, especially in the morning when many guests are taking their showers also. The access bridge to the parking lot is narrow and starts with a sharp curve--drive carefully with a large car or van.

The castle is beautiful, the rooms are authentically furnished, and there is access to common areas with comfortable seating in what looks like a library. The breakfast was excellent. The views from the Bistro and the restaurant are amazing. And there is a lovely garden where you can go for a walk or sit and read a book.
Our room did not have view of the River (but it was not advertised that it had, so this was to be expected).

We had a wonderful stay at Schonbury hotal. It's a very beautiful castle. Everything is good. Especially they arranged 5:30 am breakfast for us to catch early flight. We deeply appreciate their arrangement.
The castle, the scenery, the facilities, the decoration, the room, the services, and the food. All are exceptionally good!

The castle on top of the hill is just breathtaking in itself, with the views to top it off. The service was extremely friendly, especially in the restaurant. Our waitress was so sweet and very knowledgeable about the wines. My birthday was taken into account and absolutely everything exceeded my expectations. The hotel gardens were lovely, I wish I had more time to wander around them. We also booked a vineyard tour, which was easily arranged and very interesting with plenty of wine to taste!
We booked one of the cheaper rooms, so the room was quite small with a view of the courtyard. Absolutely value for money still!
