The property is unbelievable, a palace from a bygone era! the staff were excellent and more than accommodating, the building itself is steeped in history and while old, more than met our requirements. the entrance and lounge/dining room/sitting room/library are like a museum and worth the stay for that alone. Food was pretty good and our room was also a trip back in time - our room, the Maharaja's Chamber, is huge - sitting room, dining room/entry lobby/bedroom and bathroom...more like a small apartment!. The Bissau Royal family actually live on the second floor and the Maharajah's son came out to play cricket with the staff at one point.
Not much!...The building itself is needing some TLC in parts unfortunately, but overall, its a time warp - simply amazing! It was the off season and the bar was dry - the place screams G&T on the verandah after a day out and the staff graciously accommodated that request by procuring a bottle of Gin and a bottle of wine.

Bissau Palace is a delightful gem nestled amid the vibrant energy of Jaipur. Stepping into its enchanting embrace, we felt like we stepped into a part of history thatâs unchanged. Our encounter with the owner (Manu) on the first night was heartwarming. He graciously shared the palace and city's captivating history, weaving us into the narrative. We learnt how to fly kites during the evenings, and had a special Rajasthani Thali for dinner at the rooftop. The rooftop is magnificent during the evenings with kites embracing the pink sky akin to stars in the night sky. Throughout our stay, Bissau Palace consistently treated us like royalty. The service went above and beyond, creating an atmosphere that felt like a cherished (royal) home away from home. Beyond the regal ambiance, the culinary experience at Bissau Palace was nothing short of spectacular. We took a culinary journey of Rajasthan during our stay that showed us the rich history and diversity of the state through food. Ask the restaurant for the âbindi kurkureâ, it is a dish that we will dream about for weeks to come. From our opinion, for those seeking an experience akin to royalty, Bissau Palace stands as the unrivaled destination that promises to make you feel truly regal. Hope you cherish this palace the way we will for years to come. + there were some cute dogs that can only benefit your stay. xx Tom & Gowri

This property has incredible charm to it. The history throughout is lovely. The staff were friendly and welcoming and even invited my husband to play evening cricket with them, which he enjoyed. Although we didnât go in the pool, we did read poolside and that was very relaxing.
We did have to change rooms as our first room didnât feel clean. But, the staff were quick to fix this and changed our room not questions asked. We had organised a car for early morning pickup from the hotel to the train station on our departure day and it didnât arrive. This left us in a hard situation trying to find a Tuktuk at 5am and wandering the streets. That was a bit of a let down as we double checked with the team it was booked.

The palace was absolutely beautiful, and the historical memorabilia was fascinating. The breakfast fare was vast and very good! The massage service was excellent, and very well priced. We were there over NYE and had the New Year Eve dinner which was tasty! The main man at the front desk was friendly, and very helpful throughout our stay.
We were originally allocated a room with twin beds, it was swapped without a fuss for one with a queen bed (as we had booked) but it was a little shabby, and didn't seem to meet the specs. of the standard room we had booked.

A stunning old property with a beautiful interior. Felt really lucky to have the chance to experience a stay here. We had the Maharaja Chamber, which was very spacious with beautiful old furniture and a four poster bed. Lovely staff including the gentleman at breakfast who kept checking whether we wanted more food or anything else. Another lovely older gentleman at reception. Had a nice pool which we didnât use, but enjoyed watching a Kingfisher bird visit the water! Lounge, reading room /library very tasteful and elegant. A little gem of a place in a busy vibrant city.
Maybe requires a wee bit more maintenance. Like all old buildings, that need care and attention. We live in an old house so can understand that hot water is not always instant and the toilet cistern leaked a little. But honestly none of this bothered us. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ambiance and history of this wonderful building.

HBP is a period property, positively dripping with charming features which provide an insight into its colonial past. The reading room and library, as well as the restaurant, are beautiful examples from this period. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the breakfast adequate. The evening meal menu is very good, and we loved the Dum Aloo which we had every night! Overall, a very enjoyable and memorable stay.
Its location is central, albeit you will need a tuk tuk or other transport to reach the main sights. Some parts of the hotel, including the room we had, could do with some refreshing but for this price point and given the charm of the hotel in general, this can be overlooked.

Excellent oasis if you want to be based in the city. The Palace is so romantic with little courtyards, and lounges lined with portraits of the family. Felt like such an authentic experience and the staff make you so welcome. Jaipur is quite a busy city and although you can hear this from the rooms in the day time, it calms down at night and we slept very peacefully. During our stay it was a little cool so we didnât get to use the pool but it looks a great size and kept clean. We stayed over Christmas and the hotel organised a local puppet and music show for the guests which was really sweet! Wish we had more time to settle down with a good book and a chai in the library- feels like you are in a museum! The city looks very hustle and bustle from the car, but if you are tempted to get out and walk we actually found it pretty magical strolling in the market- no one really hassles you and although itâs quite noisy we really enjoyed this. You can reach there on foot from the hotel less than 10 mins walk. Also because of its location most monuments are an easy ride but be weary the traffic can come to a standstill in town and you might be wise to get out and walk if you are within 15mins walk- youâll enjoy it too!
Nothing we didnât like, just advice to future travellers: temperature in Jaipur can get quite nippy in Dec-Jan and the floors in the room are marble/stone so you might want to bring your own slippers or pick some up in the market

The property is located in the heart of the city, so its easier to get conveyance around the clock. Spacious rooms with a homely feel. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Also enjoyed the food. Super delicious and reasonably priced.
The room we stayed in the annexe building had paint peeling at certain places and water leakage patches at one corner of the roof - which looked little odd with the finely done interior. I am sure the management will fix these issues soon and continue their effort in heritage conservation.

This is the second review I write about Hotel Bissau Palace. I stayed first in a double room (see my review below) and moved to a Royal Chamber. The room didn't look at all like the pictures shown on the Booking.com site. It was a room next to the reception desk, without a terrace overlooking the swimming pool (like in the description) or even the garden. I was quite disappointed but couldn't talk with the reception staff because they were quite unfriendly at times. Anyway, the room was very large, the bathroom equally spacious (not up to modern standard though), it looked like a Royal Chamber. I already wrote about the restaurant and would like to emphasise the food's quality. The only staff member I'd like to mention was a young man who wait on us almost every night. He was genuinely friendly and truly professional. I liked the hotel's location very much. The area is nothing fancy but one can walk directly into the hustle and bustle of Jaipur's old town and be part of it for a moment and then return to Bissau Palace that is an oasis in the middle of chaos. The hotel's decoration is incredibly beautiful and well cared for. Staying in this hotel felt like giving some contribution in keeping this stunning building alive. I would go back to this hotel for the beauty of the palace and for the food,... hoping the house keeping staff will have improved and the bathroom been modernised.
Even staying in a Royal Chamber, the floor would not be cleaned properly, the bathroom was outdated and barely functioning. The reception staff were not welcoming and misused their position to make personal profit out of the hotel's customers.

Loved the old-world charm and the different cosy sitting areas with its interesting furniture and paintings. It felt very welcoming and 'royal' homely. We stayed twice and both rooms were lovely. Plenty of parking on premises or easy to get a tuk tuk from just outside. Staff were helpful. Breakfast was good. Although in a busy area, it felt very peaceful as soon as we entered the gates. Would definitely stay again.
The roof terrace bar/restaurant wasn't open but not really a problem as could order food from downstairs and the staff would set up a table.
