Excellent location for both walking from the railway station and also walking into the heart of the city

We were allocated a room on 6th floor where the air conditioning system was very poor. We asked at reception how to adjust air con but were told temp was fixed only fan speed could be adjusted. It was so bad that we did not sleep on first night. Next day we were moved to 5th floor and the air conditioning was excellent. On check out the receptionist felt they did us a service in moving us to another room. I felt we should not pay for the first night but she disagreed. We also noted another person had same issue on 6th floor but do not know the outcome.

It felt like you are back in 80th-90th - classic European hotel in style of years behind! Surprisingly, despite this retro style furnitures-lights-interiors, the items are truly well-maintained and are in really excellent condition. We were impressed by this hotel style, as well as by the stuff cordiality. The dinner at the restaurant was also excellent. The hotel has guarded parking. The breakfast is with a good choice. Moreover there is a well equipped gym, which is not obvious from the photos on booking. Overall we have enjoyed a lot the atmosphere and for sure to be back to discover the rest of it.

We stayed in Carlton in the first cool days of autumn, and the heating was not on yet, hence the room was a bit too fresh but that’s understandable and didn’t bother us a lot.

Hotel is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful both before and after our visit. Restaurant is outstanding and we enjoyed two amazing dinner meals and excellent wine advise. Breakfast also excellent.

The hotel is an oasis, and I feel for the owners as like many European cities we’ve visited in the past 2 months it sits near another train station which is overrun with criminal elements and near a park which is the base for the homeless and drug peddlers. What has happened to Italy??? Such a magical place which has been allowed to become overrun with illegal entrants…. This obviously is not the hotels fault. Sorry to be so negative!!!

The hotel is nice and the common areas are indeed looking like for a 4* hotel. The deluxe room is big and nice, the breakfast offers a good variety, the staff was helpful and accommodating. The room I got was missing a night stand (I think it was a twin initially with a night stand between the beds and now it was arranged as a double), but another night stand was brought in when I signaled it. The garden terrace is cosy.

Some things need refurbishment, like the bathroom doors, some cracked tiles in the bathroom and, most important, the mould around the ventilation system. I only stayed for one night, so I was not in the mood of changing rooms, but the mould is a health hazard and should be remediate immediately.

We stayed at the Royal Hotel Carlton during our honeymoon, and it was a fantastic experience. The hotel itself is stunning, and our room was beautifully designed, and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotless and luxurious. Eleanora at the reception desk was exceptional—she went above and beyond to make our stay special, providing us with personalized recommendations for dining and activities in Bologna and even tips for the rest of our trip in Italy. Her kindness and attention to detail truly made a difference. The hotel’s location was perfect, within walking distance to everything we wanted to explore, and the breakfast spread each morning was superb. We can’t wait to return!

This hotel is located very centrally in Bologna, within walking distance of the train station, in one direction, and the main commercial streets in the other direction. Therefore, very convenient. If you have a car, it offers paid parking with some very helpful parking attendants. Importantly, it is not located in the limited traffic zone of central Bologna (spoken as someone who has been stung by fines in the past). The rooms are very comfortable, and the breakfast is excellent. For example, in addition to coffee machines, staff come to take your coffee orders should you want it. Special requests have all been granted (e.g. additional pillows and towels) promptly. The gym has modern machines. Overall, this hotel slightly exceeded my expectations, and I hope to return soon.

Not really something I did not like, but I would like to offer a small suggestion for improvement. In the rooms I stayed there was no full-length mirror, which would have been helpful to check appearance before going out for business. This can be easily fixed as there are several internal doors (in the wardrobes) where such a long mirror could be fixed. In one of the rooms I stayed there was a small balcony, and it would have been also nice to have some outdoor table and chairs there. Other than that, the only thing this hotel does not have is a swimming pool (which can be handy in Italian summer). But this is a small quibble.

This is our second time staying at the hotel. This time, we stayed in a Junior Suite, a 55-square-meter room. The bathroom is quite spacious and has a jacuzzi. The room is definitely worth it for the comfort. The bed is amazing, and there's an anteroom with a sofa and a desk. The breakfast is varied. The hotel offers good value for money.

It had two balconies, but one couldn’t be opened due to a faulty door that couldn’t be repaired during our stay. The white marble floor in the bathroom had terrible black stains all over it; we informed the hotel, and they said it wasn’t dirt, but it certainly could be removed with a machine. It’s important for a hotel of this standard to maintain its rooms and not offer defective rooms to guests. I believe they should have offered us a discount or something to compensate for the issue. We also didn’t appreciate having to pay 6 Euros for a simple squeezed lemon at breakfast.

The hotel is very well located between the railway station and the city centre sights in a quiet area. Its central area and foyer are spacious with a pleasant outside terrace. The reception, dining and cleaning staff we encountered were unfailingly helpful and very professional. The breakfast was well stocked with a range of options for most tastes. The room was a good size with excellent wide beds. There was a balcony though no chairs to sit out.

The room layout is a little outdated for use of modern technology. There are no easily accessible points to charge phones and tablets as they are located mainly opposite the bed. The photo of the hotel frontage is a little misleading as it gives the impression of a water feature when in reality it is covered in green water plants.

The Reception Staff, the Cleaning Staff, the Spa Staff and Breakfast Staff were Awesome. The room was very clean and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The Spa was Amazing. The location was walking distance from train station, sites, shopping and very good restaurants. The bathroom was very clean, the towels were plush. I felt very good/safe in this location. I slept very well. I returned a couple of nights after because I very much liked the Quality I received.

It did not happen often but sometimes guests have conversations in the hall and this comes through very clearly through the door spaces.

The location was GREAT! But beyond the location, the place was BEAUTIFUL! It was decorated very well, timeless in fact. It was a beautiful property. We walked our luggage from the train station - it wasnt a terrible walk. But returning to the train we took an Uber, as in August in Italy, it was warm. It was easy to get to the main sites in Bologna - VERY walkable. Super attentive staff, who went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. The breakfast had everything anyone would want - Great coffee, juices, croissants, Eggs, Bacon, typical meats from the area, fruits... with this who needs lunch! Although the food in Bologna is amazing! Our room was very spacious. We had a great shower, and as an American, we LOVE our Air Conditioning. The A/C worked VERY well. There was a fridge with a minibar - but you could also put beer or soda in the minibar (we removed water which we didnt drink, then returned to the fridge). The bed ... Possibly the most comfortable bed and sheets I have slept on. And if you like Sushi - about a block or two away - was a sushi place we ate at, that was AMAZING! 24 bucks to try anything and everything on their menu, and the food was spectacular. Frankly - the food everywhere in Bologna is spectacular. Alessandro at the desk went out of his way to make sure we had a great room, and new where to go and what to see.

I could not find one fault at this hotel - and frankly I do judge!
