This is a high quality hotel in a location close to the train station. The room had a king size bed and a generous sized bathroom. The E12 buffet breakfast was excellent. My wife requires gluten free food (coeliac) and the options for breakfast were the best she’s experienced in ANY hotel. The staff were very helpful too. The city centre is about 1.2km away-a pleasant 15 minute walk, mostly along covered footpaths with Bologna’s famous porticos.

Nothing to dislike here. An earlier negative review by a traveller from North America appears to have little experience of European travel.

The staff were the best feature of the hotel: very friendly and accommodating. Some previous reviewers claimed the hotel is dated, however, it is just the style of the hotel, which some might like, others won't. You can tell that furnishings were recently replaced/renovated. The place was also very clean. Breakfast - which you can opt for at 12eur/person was diverse and tasty: eggs, bacon, ham and cheese cuts, cakes, fruit, fresh salad, cakes, bread, cereal, etc It is also very close to the main train station (5 minutes walk), from where you can take the Marconi express to the airport for a EUR20 return ticket (7 minutes each way).

We were situated in a room that is accessed to, in part by an elevator, and in part up and down some steps (in what seemed to be a courtyard). On the positive side, it seemed that it was the quieter wing of the hotel, but on the other hand, it was a bit tricky with a suitcase/pushchair... especially when we had to return to the reception as our keycard wasn't working. Some might also find it inconvenient that the hotel does not have an inhouse restaurant, however, the receptionist recommended a quiet, and homely restaurant just around the corner.

The Zanhotel Europa is a beautiful "old-world" hotel that is tucked in a quiet and safe neighborhood. The train station was a 10-15 min walk, which was great for us, as we traveled from Bologna to Venice and Pisa while we stayed at the hotel. The hotel breakfast buffet was exceptional! Definitely worth purchasing that option. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful and seemed to appreciate our being there. Hotel was a short walk away from the main part of Bologna's shops and restaurants.

I can't think of anything that I did not like!

The location is great, very very close to the central train station. Hotel felt very posh, loved all the mirrors and aesthetic of the wall paper. Staff was friendly and professional. Wifi worked well and room was very clean. View outside was also pretty cool! Bed was nice, it had two styles of pillows which I loved. Bathroom had a bidet which was a plus! I also loved the free slippers!

The hallway smelled kind of bad? I'm glad the room smelled good but the hallway outside my room didn't smell nice. The bathroom shampoo/body wash good but very drying for the skin. The electric breaker box in my room was very noisy, I kept hearing the relay click all night. I could also hear some people from the other room at times, which was a little annoying.

The room was very clean and very spacious for 2 people. Loved watching Italian TV at night. The part that I loved the most in this hotel was my room. The hotel is in a central location, well connected by trains and buses. The breakfast was a little less than what I would expect, but they had honeycomb which was great.

It's too hot in the rooms, also lifts are accessible to everyone which is not safe. You should make a key system to operate the lifts.

Grand’ clean quite elaborate hotel. Room large and bed comfortable. Location very close to both the station and centre.

As is often with old Italian 3/4 star hotels , they have crap hairdryers in the room. I don’t bring my own as I expect one that’s decent as I have long hair at a 4 star hotel. The ones they have are very old and barely blow any air. Ridiculous! When I asked for a decent one from housekeeping they said that’s wasn’t one. Very poor show. Also lack of nice toiletries for this supposed 4 star hotel.

It's confortable. A little bit far from the city center but nothing that would affect negatively the experience. Very close to the train station if you're getting to Bologna by train. The area is safe but I'd recommend a little bit of caution when walking at night.

The soundproofing in the rooms was terrible. There were renovations next door that were unpleasant and the other room had a guest who woke us up in the middle of the night with a very loud snoring. Haven't heard anything like that in my life.

Great location, close to the station and ~18 min walk from the city center. We walked back and forth from the hotel to the center several times. The hotel is well maintained and clean. Great service and friendly and helpful staff.

Everything was great. The only thing we didn’t like was that we could hear clearly what was happening in the adjacent room. We couldn’t hear people talking, but noise from the room as if people were moving things around in our own room.

- the location is great (walking distance from Piazza Maggiore) - very confortable beds, clean room, good looking bathroom (recent renovated) - normal facilities specific to a 4* hotel (luggage room, polite personnel, 24h reception). Nothing wow, but normal! - no pressure felt about anything (check in , check out, payment etc). - good breakfast (nothing extraordinary) at a better price at the reception desk then on Booking. Would go for this hotel if in Bologna again.

Location close to the train station (but far away from the center) and clean.

The man receptionist in the morning is very rude. He didn't pay any attention when we arrived at the hotel and he ignored us during our accomodation. We mentioned at the hotel that the curtains did not close well and the light in the morning was coming through but they didn't do something to help us. The woman receptionist is very kind.
