Such a fantastic B&B in a traditional tuffo house, right in the heart of old Matera, so close to every atraction! Monica and Arturo are amazing hosts, with an incredible attention to details! Our room was big, immaculate clean, with white sheets and very comfortable bed and pillows and a great bathroom. We had a self provided late lunch/early dinner (keep in mind that the restaurants in Matera are closed between noon and 7pm! Breakfast was really good, with cheese and cold cuts, butter, gem, tea, coffee, milk, cereals, croissants and brioches. We felt amazing and had the chance of enjoying an authentic atmosphere of beautifull Matera! Hope to return and stay longer, definitely at L'Arturo!

Once you've got the hang of Matera and worked out where you are on all the different maps (north is never in the same direction!) this property is very easy to find. Head to the via Duomo and find the arch into the Sasso Caveoso, go down the steps and turn right. Number 9 Tre Corone is the first door on the left. There are steps down to the property but the room I had was cave-like in the rock face. Very spacious, including a fridge, coffee machine, kettle, comfortable large double bed, easily adjustable shower in large separate bathroom. Maybe a good idea to bring slippers for the tiled floor! Very friendly and helpful host, no problems communicating with her in English. Plentiful breakfast including corn flakes, yoghurt, meats and cheese, cakes, fresh fruit (clementines, plums and pears) and toast with selection of spreads. Excellent location right in the centre of Matera. The rail and bus stations are less than 15 minutes walk away, mostly level pedestrianised with just a gentle incline at the stations end and the steps already mentioned at the property end.

Public transport is confusing. There are buses from the airport which seem to be reliable but not all of them terminate at Matera (despite the timetable suggesting they do!) so make sure you do get off at the right stop (I didn't and ended up in somewhere called Policoro!). The train service involves changing stations in Bari and changing trains at Altamura which could take around three hours as they run roughly hourly. The timetable seems to suggest a daily service but on Sunday the station was locked and no train came so maybe it only operates on weekdays. There are a lot of steps in Matera although some routes are possible avoiding them!

Monica and Arturo were incredibly nice, knowledgeable. conversant and wonderful hosts. We had an absolutely terrific stay with them, and our only regret was having to leave them and beautiful Matera. The bedroom and bath were spacious, nicely furnished, and the B and B was situated in the heart of the sasso, but only a two minute walk up to the main level of the old part of the City. Breakfast was authentic, and provided at our convenience. Each day we were offered a variety of meats, cheeses, and local pastries among the available options. We have been in Puglia for a month traveling south from Bari and finishing in nearby Matera. Of all the 20 or so Booking. com locations that we stayed in, all of which were fine or better, none surpassed our stay at L’ Arturo. We’ll have wonderful memories of our visit to Matera, enhanced by staying at Monica’s and Arturo’s special B and B.

The location of L’Arturo B&B couldn’t be better, with an incredible view of the Sassi of Matera. Our host Monica and her husband Arturo were wonderful and did everything to make our stay perfect. Breakfast on the terrace in the middle of the Sassi was delicious and abundant with a variety of local specialties and homemade sweets. Can’t wait to go back and highly recommend it.

L'Arturo B&B is in the heart of the Sassi, and we immediately felt immersed in this historical piece of Italian history, while at the same time enjoying a most comfortable suite. In fact, we returned a second time a week later, to enjoy more of Matera and l'Arturo B&B. Monica and Arturo also have a boutique just a few steps away chock full of epicurean delights that make great gifts. A very welcoming family and an overall pleasure for us.

the room was lovely, huge and spacious, bed and pillows very comfortable, great water pressure and hot water in the shower! we even had a daily tidy service! breakfast was so delicious. Monica was a lovely, kind and informative hostess. the location was perfect to easily access both Sassis with ease.

GREAT! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful B&B which is in a great location. Breakfast is delicious and served on the terrace with great views and ABOVE what we expected. The room was charming, spacious and comfortable. Given its location ( on the lower level ) the heat of the day didn't affect the room, it stayed cool. Monica is a kind very helpful and friendly host, willing to help out with our requests.

The only real downside was the everyday music class nearby.

Monica was very helpful and a great host. The location of this place is great, right in the middle of the city and close to the parking lot. Delicious breakfast is served. Room was spacious with all modern things but yet it maintains the architecture and design of Matera.

The property is perfectly located in the heart of Matera’s old town. You have an amazing view of the architecture around. Monica was very kind to give us all kinds of tips from how to move around the city to places to eat and have a drink, which took away all worries from our trip and left us with an amazing experience.

Matera was absolutely beautiful! We loved this B & B & both Monica & Arturo were very sweet & helpful ! The location is very central to everything & we would go back again ! Be sure to check out Arturo’s produce store just in the main piazza! Franca (Australia)
