This is our very first ryokan experience and we were super impressed by Mr. Dai’s service. We stayed here for two nights, and there was room service where he cleaned the room, replenished our toiletries and drinking water, and provided another set of neatly folded yukatas. We also enjoyed our private onsen session every night, the water was not too hot hence we could soak and relax comfortably for a long time. Mr. Dai is also very kind to keep our luggage before check in and after check out so we can explore Hakone without dragging the luggage around. I have read from the other comments that it was steep going up to Yupoppo, but honestly, there is nothing to worry about. We came with 2 large luggage that were about 20kgs each, and had no issue going up the hill. (It was just a short hill to climb and was flat afterwards, about 7mins walk from the bus stop)

We had such a great time! The owner is such a nice person and it shows how much he cares for all of his guests. The place gives you a great ryokan experience, the food (the owner cooks it himself) is delicious, the onsen is very relaxing and over all it made our time in Hakone so much more memorable. The ryokan is in a quite and beautiful area with amazing restaurants.
It's not in the most central area in Hakone if that's what's important to you (we didn't mind it at all), but it's still easy to get to from the lake and you get to see a different, relaxed and beautiful part of the city.

From beginning to end, we couldn't have asked for a better host than Dai. First off, he was genuinely concerned for us and took measures to make sure that we hadn't gotten lost before we arrived. We arrived around 8:45 pm, which is quite late by ryokan standards. Just as we were turning the corner (you have to walk up a small hill to get to this place), Dai came running out calling for us. And when I checked my phone after settling down in our room, I learned that he had contacted us through our reservation, asking if there were any landmarks around us. That incident aside, there were so many little things that made our stay here the highlight of our five days in Japan. Dai brought us all slices of homemade chocolate "welcome cake" right after we arrived. The private onsen reservation system was wonderful, particularly for my companions who were sore after an entire day of walking. The homemade breakfast was nothing fancy, but it was authentic and delicious. We ran into the host's son, which I personally found endearing. And despite Dai not speaking perfect English, he was quite sociable and we made good conversation.
There was one bug that flew in just as we entered our room, but our host had it out the window in no time.

The owner is the friendliest person ever. We have never felt so welcomed before in any accommodation. Our room felt authentic with attention to detail and was really cozy, and we loved warming up in the Onsen after a long day out in the cold and rainy weather. There isn't much nearby and it's a 15 minutes walk to the next restaurants, but the next bus station is only 7 minutes away. But this makes it fairly quiet, so if you are looking for a place to relax, the location is perfect. Breakfast was delicious, we got 2 homemade buns with orange jam and butter,, fried egg, sausages, salad, vegetable soup and kiwifruit. Also, Tea and Coffee.
Unfortunately we couldn't book the delicious breakfast for the first morning.

Very friendly and welcoming host, really does his best to accommodate guests. Close to a bus station, so you can easily get to the lake or other towns. Lovely home cooked dinner and breakfast. Private onsen 2 times a day. Highly recommended if you want to stay in a more traditional home and eat freshly made local food.
You have to travel quite some distance by bus to get to the location. These buses tend to be crowded. Not a big problem and it's the case all throughout Hakone, so can't really blame the host for this.

Fantastic hosting by Dai and his family. They put so much attention to details to make sure you have a great experience. The ryokan is ideally located close to a bus stop where 2 different routes meet up, which is great to explore the lake Ashi and the museum in Gora. We loved the full Japanese experience of Ryokan Yuppopo, from the yukatas (including some for the kids) to the relaxing onsen, and traditional Japanese beds - very comfy and warm. But of course the best part was the food! Dai and his wife prepared traditional home made food for both dinner & breakfast, incl. delicious home made bread. We had informed them in advance that we don’t eat beef for religious reasons and they were able to accommodate perfectly. The chicken stew was truly amazing and all the other dishes were very tasty. The kids were served smaller portion of the same meal in beautiful bento boxes. The loved it! On the second day, Dai heard us sing happy birthday for someone in the group and his wife prepared as a surprise for all of us some delicious cakes and a special plate for the birthday boy. Can’t recommend enough!
Nothing. We had a great stay.

My two friends, my boyfriend and I had an absolutely amazing experience at Hakone Yuppopo. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner who welcomed us in as if we were his own family. The hospitality was unparalleled, and the meals (around 7 courses for both breakfast and dinner) were all culinary masterpieces. The owners baked fresh bread every morning and served it with jam, homemade broth, eggs and coffee/tea. The private onsen was the epitome of relaxation. I can’t recommend this ryokan enough for anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable Japanese getaway. We spent the rest of our trip in Tokyo and Kyoto and this was easily the highlight. Thank you Dai, I hope we can visit again soon!

Staying at this place was one of the highlights of our trip. Ever since we arrived, the host made sure that we were comfortable and relaxed. We were welcomed with a homemade chocolate cake, the foods served were delicious (dinner and breakfast-the homemade bread and marmalade was my personal favorite) and the host was really helpful and nice. The onsen was private as well and you can book your preferred time in advanced. The place was also spacious and had a very private touch to it. Going there, you just need to ride one bus from Odawara Station. The hosts went the extra mile to assist us in our needs and even drove us to the bus station because it was raining. Overall, I would really recommend this place if you are visiting Hakone. We would definitely book again when we come back..

This was my first experience staying at a ryokan, and I am so happy with how everything turned out. The "Family Room" was the only option left for the dates that I booked, so even though it was only my husband and I staying, we are so glad that we ended up with that large room in particular. It was incredibly spacious, and it even had its own toilet (the other room options have a shared toilet.) Dai was a great host. He let us check in a bit early and gave us a brief overview of the place. He was very hospitable, but not intrusive by any means. The entire facility appeared very clean and well-kept. The train theming was a cute touch. Wifi was great, private onsen was nice, and the meals were delicious. Only a 5 minute walk from the nearest bus stop. I'd definitely recommend staying here!

I can say only one word fabulous. We were with our 10 month old baby and before check in I informed them. And they arranged everything for him from onsen to the dining room. It's a family business and boutique hotel. Only 3-4 rooms and a quiet place. Onsen was private and you can use it 2 times a day with a reservation namely there are no women or men onsens you can enter with your family which was very good. Some details we were very delighted about like a personalised dinner with a list, yakuta wears for the whole family even my baby or the place designed on trains which I loved very much...etc The toilet was an ordinary technological one. The location is also good for us. We came by taxi and when we were rooming around we used a bus to the lake. Also I would like to mention they have home made yuzu(Japanese orange)wine and plum wine. Owner was very kind and polite. Definitely a recommended place. Thanks for everything.
