The hotel is so beautiful, like a Japanese palace deep within a tree grove. It combines a traditional stay with modern amenities, there's free sake upon your check in. Hakone will have you hiking for long, so the foot bath is also great. I highly recommend eating at the restaurant (specially for dinner). It is a bit expensive but totally worth it. The onsen that you can book in advance is fairly priced and also very comfortable. Oh, and the massage chairs, so good (free). Since it is so close to the railway, you can easily start your trip around hakone from here.

If you're not used to sleeping on a rough surface, it might not prove very comfortable. As a traditional hotel, the room doesn't have much privacy or means to get entertained other than relaxing. Getting to the hotel at night is also tricky as the railcar closes early, I had to walk a fair amount from the bus stop, and then dragged my luggage downhill (not recommended, better leave early). If you're tall, even the XL yukata might not fit. Better bring google translate as none of the personnel speak English other than basic phrases. This might seem like a negative review but the hotel is so worth it, just plan ahead and don't traverse hakone late at night as transportation is limited and taxis are expensive.

Wonderful ryokan. We stayed in one of the larger rooms on the third floor, with a balcony with a private outdoor bath. The scenery was excellent. The room itself was beautiful and spacious. The staff were attentive and the food delicious. All in all, a great experience. The free shuttle from Gora was a must, because while it is a short walk from Gora, the road is incredibly steep!

While the staff were friendly and professional, I did feel like they were rushing serving our dinner. The next day, breakfast was served in a more ‘normal’ pace, so maybe we experienced an exceptionally busy dinner-time. Anyway, it was still wonderful!

It is wonderful place, with possibility to rent private onsens. Nature around is great and there are several beautiful hikes that one can do. It is nice place to visit and rest from crowded cities.

If you are vegetarian you need to tell them that 3 days in advance, otherwise they can't serve you vegetarian food, this was not really clearly communicated till I asked them about it, so I was later than 3 days in advance and they couldn't help me regarding this. Communication was very respectful and fast and they said they will update info sent over booking. Booking of private onsen is against additional costs, which having in mind already a bit more expensive hotel could be included in price, but it is fully worth of it

Enjoyed our Ryokan style stay. The hotel has a shared bathing onsen/shower area, has massage chairs, outdoor foot soaks and not to mention the view from the room. The location is abit of a trek to get to but there are daily transfer service from the hotel to Gora station as well as when you depart the hotel with your luggage. The staff were friendly, however spoke very little English. We really enjoyed our stay here.

The hotel is situated at a very convenient location - 2min walk from Naka Gora station and it offers shuttle services from Gora station. Google map doesn’t show the most convenient way of getting there so we were intimidated at first, but turned out if you buy the Hakone free pass and take the cable car, it’s only 2min walk from Naka Gora station. We enjoyed the onsen, the free yukatas, and the traditional dinner and breakfast. Very good service and free coffee and sake at the lobby!

It would be nice to have checked with guests for any allergies at check in, as one dish had peanuts. Also, the onsen is not very hot, and no hot water from the sink in the hotel room.

Yutorelo-an is an older building but is well-kept, and the staff are all exceptional. We had wonderful meals tailored to our dietary needs, too. The private bath and foot bath are both an added bonus.

We had stayed here previous in a superior room with open-air bath, and it was wonderful. This time, only the superior room (no bath) was available, and it was a bit lacking. It was smaller than the superior room with outdoor bath, the bathroom was just a unit bath, and the futon seemed thinner (or maybe there was no under-mattress for the futon) than our previous room. It was still a great value for what we paid, but I was expecting the same size room as last time, along with a nicer bathroom and similar quality level of futon.

Onsen was amazing, beautiful property, fun to pick out yukata, great value for price, no problem bringing our carry-on luggage from Odawara station to Yutorelo-an for early luggage storage before check-in time. Also free drinks, the beer was so good!

I booked 2 rooms with Booking.com and one I paid extra to have half-board dinner and breakfast. However once I arrived at the location I was told that Booking.com sent request for 2 ROOM ONLY rooms at the ryokan, meaning no dinner/ breakfast, misunderstanding about check-in time, and wasted money. Was able to refund for the difference but was a hassle, I would recommend if you want two rooms with differences in meals or not to book them separately. Futon mattress was a bit thin.

This was a real Japanese style experience. Although it was a hotel style building looking a little old on the outside and in the public areas, the overall experience was great. The building was located in a park/forest and the room had a very nice, peaceful/relaxing view. The room was very clean, spacious and decorated in the simple and pleasant Japanese style (ryokan). The bed was a mattress (a bit too thin for me) with comfortable bedding (duvet, pillow, etc.). Soft drinks were offered for free all day & wine or sake in the evening. They also offer private real onsen in a nice little Japanese mini garden The best part was the breakfast & dinner plan; a great variety of excellent Japanese dishes beautifully presented.

It would've been nice to have at least one English news TV channel. All channels were Japanese. The towels were a bit worn out.

Staff were very hospitable. Pleasantly surprised by having several complimentary beverages, free offer of shuttle to Gora and having a selection of yukata to choose from. Amazing Japanese dinner and breakfast. Complimentary 45 min private bath because we opted in for the half board with our stay. Staff were very organized with meal services. I was again surprised that staff allowed my husband and I to check into our room before the 3 pm check in time without us requesting. It was much appreciated as we arrived straight from the airport. The cable car stop was a easy 5 min or less walk to the ryokan on mostly a well paved quiet and straight road. Luggages rolled easily on this path.

I actual though the stairs leading to the main entrance was a pretty trail and was easily manageable by my husband and I, but I can see that it could be difficult for a person who is not able to carry their luggages up a steep set of stairs. Staff will not be able to see you from inside until you get into the ryokan, as the path is thru the steep steps outside and hidden by the garden terrains.

The staff is amazing and extremely helpful. The onsen is beautiful and a great experience. My booking included breakfast and dinner, which offered great variety. Personally I was a big fan of the massage chairs as well.

Like many things in Hakone it is quite old and could really do with a freshen up to appear cleaner.
