This Inn, built in 1909, skilfully balances a beautiful, awe-inspiring stay in the past, with modern comforts such as stunning bathrooms & air conditioning. The staff are extraordinary and lovely, with plenty of English and patience for our limited Japanese. The futons were very comfortable (with an extra layer happily provided for one of us, as desired). The Japanese breakfast is exceptional and a great experience. The library room is a place of remarkable tranquility, with delicious & complimentary tea, coffee and treats. It took our family of 5 a moment, to transition from our usually hectic, ordered, modern life to the calm and very different nature of a Ryokarn but we are so glad we did. Spending two nights was ideal.
The online photos don’t do justice to this masterpiece. The rooms contain more texture and warmth than shown.

The staff were so friendly, warm and accommodating. We stayed in the Satsuki room so we had our own bathroom as well as private courtyard that was absolutely stunning to wake up to and really added to the overall experience. You can tell the owners and staff take a lot of pride in their business, as though the inn was old and some things weren't the most up to date, it was always very clean and fully stocked whenever we returned. The location is only a five minute walk to the train/bus station as well as a main road but somehow it still feels tranquil and quiet. Definitely one of the best parts of our stay!
We knew about the shared washrooms so this is just small negative, but booking time even just for a shower can be inconvenient when you haven't necessarily made plans for the day and don't know when you're returning. But even then, the staff are as accommodating as they can be if you want to book some time last minute (:

This was a beautiful Japanese Ryokan. The building is historic and has largely retained its Edo period charm, with some modern amenities for bathrooms and wash basins for comfort. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and the Japanese traditional breakfast was very fresh and authentic, with fine attention to detail. Fresh flowers were placed around the ryokan, and it also has a beautiful zen garden in the centre to appreciate. The hot baths were clean and well kept.
Unfortunately some guests either don't understand or appreciate that a traditional ryokan is made from wood and paper screens, and noise travels easily. Some other guests were quite noisey late at night, and they were very audible in my room. I would suggest that the ryokan remind all guests to be mindful of other guests and keep noise to a minimum, so everyone can enjoy the peace of the setting.

We were not disappointed and got the experience we paid for. We were treated with the utmost respect and waited on like VIPs. We stayed in the main downstairs room Satsuki and felt like King and Queen, so much so, we stayed in the Ryokan all day to rejuvenate. All the guests upstairs were so happy to be there too!! The hour long baths were divine. The traditional breakfast was generous. In fact, all of the staff were so serene and traditionally accomodating we couldn't thank them enough for making our romantic stay so special. The rooms were spotless and authentic. The beds were super comfy and our gowns, socks and shoes made us feel like home. Our garden gave me so much joy just looking at it and being in it. Our outside toilet was clean and delightful and we were glad to have it.

The breakfast was amazing. I would definitely recommend this. If you have it late in the morning, you will only need to eat a snack for lunch. And we enjoyed the traditional Japanese wooden bath. All of the staff are exceptional
Unfortunately, I could not find a comfortable spot in our room to read or just relax. The seating at the small table in our bedroom, as well as in the living area, were too low. The only place in our unit I could sit comfortably was on the steps outside our door overlooking the garden. There is also a small library I could have sat but preferred something in my room

We had a wonderful experience. The establishment has an authentic charm that takes us on a journey into Japanese culture. The Japanese-style rooms are pleasant and comfortable with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Common places are attractive and aesthetic. the bath which allows you to try Japanese culture. Regarding gastronomy, we had a Japanese breakfast, we were not disappointed. The dishes are delicate. Despite our different culinary habits (notably savory breakfast is not in our culture), we were pleasantly surprised by this meal and it was an authentic experience. The staff is very helpful, smiling, attentive to our expectations to ensure that we have a pleasant stay.

Our stay was OUTSTANDING. An elder lady welcomed us, offered a sweet treat and a drink and explained a few things about the place. She was super friendly and kind, knew a bit on English and Spanish and we were able to have a fun chat with her. We needed a place to have dinner and she even made a booking for us in a nearby place with authentic japanese cuisine in which they didn't know English neither the menu was in that language. She booked us a couple of seats at the counter so we could see how the chefs were preparing the meals without us telling her this (she definitely knew what we were looking for). They will book your slot for your private use of the bathroom (1hour; 30 mins per guest). The bathtub water was prepared with herbs and smelt wonderfully. It was exactly what you needed after long days of tourism in the hot japanese summer. The breakfast was also wonderful and very tasteful. A young lady explained to us that her mum cooked breakfast for us. We felt part of a family. We wanted to buy yukatas and we asked a young lad that was working on the night shift if they had any to sell. He rang someone and showed us a couple. The following morning a young lady offered to take us to a nearby family shop where to buy them. She even carried one of our bags! The ryokan was beautiful and both japanese gardens (we had a private one in our room) were a dream. You could see how they were looking after them with love, constantly watering the plants. Upstairs there was a little library where you could go for a cup of tea and have some japanese sweets. The shared bathrooms have toilettries and towels. There was a hair-dryer inside our room. The fridge in our room was refilled daily with water bottles and soft drinks. The futtons were very soft and comfortable to sleep in. They will provide you with a yukata and slippers to walk around the place.
Nothing, it was just PERFECT!!! To say something, although it didn't bother us, there was a curfew between 11pm until 7am.

This place felt absolutely magical and we loved our time so much. The staff, the building, the location, everything was just perfect. In particular the lady that gave us the tour was absolutely superb. She had such a lovely way with her wonderfully humourous explanations that we instantly felt more at home than either of us can ever really recall feeling outside of our actual house. And the building and gardens are even more beautiful in real life than they are in the pictures. Thank you so much!
We wish we could have stayed for another night or two.

Everything. The staff was super kind providing all the explanation about of the ryokan and its history plus all instructions for bath, breakfast, etc. They confirmed our reservation in the next hotel in Tokyo and sent our luggage there (with a low cost fee). the breakfast is delicious and traditional. The baths despite is traditional are modern, clean and cozy. in addition is very well located with buses and metro near by. The place is magic with the gardens and the library.
All for us was good !

In a house that is 100 years old, it is meticulously maintained. Even though the bathrooms had to be shared (as of most old houses in Japan), the 2 bath rooms are in absolutely good condition and very modern. My room (Satsuki) is the only one with its own toilet, but it was outside of the room, at the side of my own walkable garden. When I was staying there, the weather was cold but not freezing cold yet so I was still able to walk out into the garden to access the toilet. Something to note if you are visiting this Ryokan in the winter. As mentioned by many, the bath rooms are to be reserved and the house is old so it is not very soundproof. However, during my stay, the people who are staying there as well were very respectful and very quiet, so I did not experience any disturbance. I would like to specially mention that the staffs of this Ryokan are extremely hospitable and would really go out their way to help in any way possible. During my short stay, I had met many of the staffs and they were all consistently accommodating and helpful. It was really a pleasant stay!
