We stayed in a room with a private mineral bath. The room was as large as an apartment, with its own foyer, and areas that could be contained by beautiful screen doors. We loved the space, the views and the wonderful service, but especially the food and the ritual of having our own private dining space, which evidently goes with the ‘special’ rooms. This is a great place to unwind, leaving the rest of the world behind! Staff were beyond excellent! If the canal boat is running its a great excursion to take. Food was just superb.

Take some good solid socks if you have to wear orthotics, and put the orthotics in the socks. No shoes in the private dining room, nor in the rooms. If you like being barefoot this place is heaven. But if you’re older like me, and must wear your orthotics, you will need a bit of ingenuity. Also, the pillows are truly Japanese, beans in the under-side and soft on the top side. One per twin bed, although the twin beds were like two queen size. I asked for more pillow cases for the extra pillows in the cupboard and of course they were available immediately. There’s not much close by, but the staff will drive you to the station and pick you up if they can when you go on day trips.

The staff is amazing. They’re so attentive and treat you like royalty the hotel rooms or original Japanese furnishings which makes it feel very authentic. They also help you with Shuttle bus services when you need it the chef is fabulous and I can’t say enough about how meticulous and delicious his cooking was. He took our dietary restrictions, very seriously and made fabulous meals. I especially love the check in where they seated us. We didn’t have to stand all. They explained the detail details of our stay.

I loved everything the only thing I can think of is that the western beds really weren’t western. They were hard so I put two futons and a comforter on top and after that it was perfect. Also, the pillows are different. It didn’t bother me, but they have beanbags on one side and a pillow on the other, so if you’re used to self western pillows, you might have to be flexible.

Friendly, English speaking staff. Dinner was fantastic, everything was very good. Onsen was great, ratio friendly if you cover with patches which are sold at the store, or you could book a private onsen. Hotel is a ways from the station, but there is a shuttle bus to and from, and a phone at the station with the hotels number on speed dial to get in contact with them.

felt a bit silly that sodas were an upcharge for dinner when our price included dinner, alcohol I can understand, but for the price, feel like that should have been included (first time at a ryokan, so maybe this is standard) price felt a bit high for our accommodation (seriously just a little bit, still worth staying).

Modern facilities while keeping traditional japanese decor with tatami mats. Comfortable beds/futon. Had fun with wearing yukatas in the premises, also for dinner and breakfast. Lovely traditional multi course dinner! Simple nutritious breakfast as well. We had a party with a nut allergy and they took it seriously with substitutions for some items on the dinner menu. Our private onsen in the room was great as well, perfect temperature with a nice little view of Lake biwako. Some of us also enjoyed the public bath. All staff were amazing, from the receptionist, to the waitresses and the driver. All of us felt we were very well taken care of despite only staying one night.

Public bath was not open to tattooed people. Was definitely given the option to purchase cover ups however we did not feel it was worth it since the individual had many and all over their body. This was also the reason why we booked a room with a private onsen. Even though we knew this, we had hoped that perhaps rules may have changed or at least cover ups were provided, given how much we paid for this one night. We did notice there were quite a number of older japanese guests so that may be the reason why they still have this backwards rule with tattoos.. this is really the only disappointment!

Absolutely everything here is incredible. The dinner in particular is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life with super helpful waiters who will explain each meal as it comes. Front-of-house staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and will even send a shuttle bus out to collect you from the train station and bring you back after your stay has concluded. You're greeted with a warm tea and smiling faces. The room is beautiful, large and spotlessly clean. Private onsens are reasonably priced and very relaxing. Breakfast was also delicious and the nicest breakfast I had in my 3 week stay in Japan.

What an experience. The in room Hot Spring was absolutely to die for and we really enjoyed relaxing in it. The Dinner and Breakfast was amazing, so many things to try. We all loved wearing the yakuta to dinner and breakfast and walking around the hotel and the staff were so lovely. The kids loved sleeping on the futons on the floor. Would absolutely recommend this experience.

My only thing was that I was under the impression there was a kids menu if you advised them in advance, but my girls were served the same food as us which they didn't eat a lot of. But I may have read that wrong.

Exceptional high-quality hotel with a beautiful view of Lake Biwa. The kaiseki dinner was a highlight - 12 courses of super-interesting tasty food that I would never have chosen on my own. The follow-up breakfast, while not as extensive as the dinner, was also elaborate, unique, and interesting. The onsen was amazing, and I especially enjoyed the outdoor onsen with the rock waterfall. The room itself had a great view of Lake Biwa, and we slept comfortably on our futons. The provided yukatas were fun to wear, and comfortable, as well.

Nothing!

It's so difficult to write all the amazing things we experienced in ine post, but starting from the welcome we had (shuttle from the station) arrival at the hotel, it was perfect! The room was really nice, a little outdated. However, we understand it is a traditional hotel, so that's part of the style. The food was amazing! They kept us out of our comfort zone all the time, which now we appreciate 🙏 ✨️ 🙂 ♥️ because it allowed us to explore the Japanese food in all its forms. We had a family time at the onsen, we brought an inflatable pool for our baby's bath during the trip, and used it at the private onsen, with cold water, so she became part of the whole experience! The last night dinner was incredible, and all due to the staff, our waitress was the kindest!! Thanks for the amazing memories we were able to create. We will never forget this magical trip!!

One of the onsen was under construction, so they notified us ahead of time and informed us the adjusted schedule for men and women bathing times. This was the only inconvenience, but it wasn't too bad. I appreciated the free shuttle service to/from the train station. The meals were incredible and out of this world. The traditional futon bedding was very comfortable, and the view from our room was excellent. It was a very unique and fun experience for me and my family. We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay at a ryokan onsen.

The construction of one of the onsens which resulted to an adjusted onsen schedule, but not a big deal.

I mainly booked the place because it had a private onsen in the room overlooking a stunning view of Lake Biwa. It truly lived upto expectations. We soaked in the tub as well as the view! Breakfast and Dinner included in our stay. Its a full on Japanese experience of their hospitality. We had a 10 course dinner served in a private dining room. Food was amazing! We are a family of vegans and they asked very detailed questions about dietary restrictions once we booked the place. When we got there everything was so meticulously prepared, we did not have to worry about anything. We really enjoyed the beautiful flavours. The staff was very welcoming and courteous. They had also laid out Yukatas(wrap arond cotton robes) for us with lovely patterns that were super comfortable to be in. You can wear these to the public baths, before you get ready to go into the hot spa/onsen.

Everything was perfect, I could have stayed one more day!
