The hotel was absolutely gorgeous. It was like a little oasis within Georgetown. All staff were lovely and helpful! We all enjoyed going for a swim in the pool after a hot day of walking and exploring. The pool is nicer in real life compared to photos. Our room was large and the bathroom was spacious. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Georgetown!

The loft doesn’t have a bannister for the staircase which was a little concerning with two children. Mine are old enough (7 and 6) to be careful but something to note if you are staying with younger children.

Coffee and tea was available, but breakfast was not offered. There were many Chinese coffee places that open as early as 6am within a a block or two. There were also many other restaurants walking distance from our hotel's location. I had to walk farther to get to the shopping area. The bed was a lot firmer than I'm used to but we had such active days that I would sleep pretty soundly anyway. It was just the first night that I had issues. A friend and I shared a very spacious room with two king beds. It had a nice sitting area. I arrived very late to check-in. I'm glad someone was there to help me with keys and luggage. There is no elevator to the second floor in this beautifully restored mansion. The front desk staff was always helpful when we had questions.

The lounge chairs in the pool area were not in good shape. One was fully ripped and they eventually took it away. The toilet by the pool does not seem clean - maybe they're just stained, but it just didn't match the rest of the mansion which was beautiful. On my last day, I had the "Do not disturb" sign, as I was packing and finally showering. A staff member entered my room 30 minutes before I was due to check-out -- while I was in the shower. I was shocked and shouted from the shower for them to leave. I reported to the front desk staff who said sorry and that they were new people not fully trained. I was not happy.

Beautiful old mansion just a short walk from the sights. The entrance with water feature and old carriage make an impression. Some lovely antique furniture in the property & ultra comfortable bed. Plenty of eateries nearby and a lovely coffee shop, Sinar Coffee, very close for breakfast. Pool was wonderful in the November heat. Nice private courtyard although see below.

a) The room had a lovely courtyard with a bistro table but no chairs. When I asked, I was told just to take some from the lovely public area which seemed a bit odd, leaving tables there without chairs... b) Lack of a comfortable sitting room: The place seems more geared up for 4 people staying in it. It has a second downstairs bathroom opening onto the sitting room and a sink outside. And where there could be a comfortable sitting area there are just 2 high banquettes more suited for sleeping than sitting. A bit odd in a building that has so much style otherwise.

We deliberately chose a heritage property and this hotel looked just right. Very pretty courtyard setting and traditional feel to the whole place. We had a spacious mansion room on the first floor Rm6. This had high ceilings and a screened lounge area as you entered the room . The fan and air con was efficient. Good walk in shower and the water was warm. Small fridge and safe provided plus some soft drinks. Tea and coffee was available downstairs in the reception area. Small pool available which we used most afternoons to cool off. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location pretty good with a 15/20 min walk to main areas.

Whilst the bed was large it was very firm. We did sleep ok but it took some getting used to. The shower space was all tiled in smaller travertine style but really needed a good scrub and probably re-sealing to make it feel cleaner . The windows and shutters did a job but the windows really could do with updating - we didn’t open the shutters as there was no view at the back/side of the building. Some mornings the call to prayer was so loud it seemed like it was outside the bedroom window. More facilities for drinks / beverages and some snacks would have been appreciated although I am sure we could have ordered in via Grab if we wanted to. It would be good to have more poolside loungers.

We absolutely loved our stay at this property. Even though it’s only street parking we never had any issues finding a spot right outside the property (make sure you download the parking app!! A lot of the parking is not free in the larger towns in Malaysia apparently ..it is very cheap but you need to pay in the app) The location was walking distance to a lot of the sights we wanted to see and a plethora of amazing food, street markets, and shopping, it felt very safe, very quiet within the grounds, we always had the pool to ourselves when we were there to cool off midday. The room was great, perfectly decorated with a very comfortable bed and one of the best showers we had on our 4 month trip. The staff was very kind, always helpful and clearly put in a lot of work keeping the property maintained. Would stay again.

Having stayed there before, we had high expectations and these were exceeded this trip. Although they do not serve breakfast anymore, the range of local breakfast venues combined with the short walk in the balmy weather was not a problem. The manager Muiz was nothing short of outstanding. He assisted with a room upgrade, parking, eating venues, etc. Relaxing and the place has a older colonial Chinese style feel and calmness about it. We look forward to returning.

Oh my ... I felt like an Arabian Princess in the middle of GeorgeTown ... although arriving late I didn't realise I really was in the middle of it all ... or at least very close to everything I needed to be. On arriving my greeting was warm and genuine and I was shown to my beautiful ground floor room .. WITH .. Ta-Da .. a door that opened to the lovely little pool area. I loved my room .. spacious, clean and the decor and style of the room and the accommodation as a whole reminded me of the Riads I had stayed in whilst travelling through Morocco (I later learnt that the Mansion had been built in this style). From the Mansion it was just a short stroll to all that I needed to see and do in the old Town and not too far to walk to the modern conveniences .. like the Paradigm Mall for a bit of shopping therapy. Oh and also close to a great self-service laundry (Busy-Bee???) and also close to seriously the best cafe for coffee, b'fast and delicious indulgences .. definitely must Emily Darling on your travel plan. Would definitely recommend Jaws Peranaken Mansions for short stay.

Nothing really .. bed was a bit hard for my liking and the accom is close to a Mosque or similar so you will have an early morning wake up call if you are a light sleeper (like me .. but I just went back to sleep afterwards).

Stunning historical building with nicely decorated spacious rooms. Location was quiet, yet close to everything by promenade or grab. Shower was good as well. The pool was very nice for a refreshing dip.

The air-condition was far too weak for the big room. It was constantly warm and humid, which lowered the overall experience quite a lot. A bit funny smell in the bathroom. A breakfast option would have been appreciated. There was no real vibe at the property despite the fantastic setting.

The location was great, convenient to reach the main viral food in Penang. The room was excellent, meticulously decorated. The free flow of premix Penang white coffee is a good addition. The staff were very friendly. attentive and kind enough to give a vintage glass plate to my mother when she mentioned that the plates reminded her of childhood memories at our kampung. Love the privacy offered by the hotel throughout of our stays for two nights.

It's quite a hustle to find a parking spot.
