I recently stayed at Yeng Keng Hotel for an impromptu 3D2N staycation in George Town, Penang, with my sister. Our main goal was to explore the local food scene, and this charming heritage hotel made the experience even more delightful. 1) Heritage Charm in Excellent Condition Yeng Keng Hotel lives up to its claims. It's a small yet tranquil and peaceful hotel despite being situated right on Chulia Street, one of the busiest areas. The heritage atmosphere is well-preserved, and the property is impeccably maintained. 2) Prime Location for Food Lovers The hotel is within walking distance of a variety of delicious restaurants and street food vendors. Even better, there are plenty of nearby pubs with live bands, perfect for winding down in the evening. 3) Exceptional Service The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay, always ready with a smile and eager to assist. 4) Great Security Measures As the hotel faces the bustling Chulia Street, the main entrance is secured with a metal gate, controlled by a friendly security guard. This added layer of security ensures that only guests can access the hotel, maintaining a peaceful environment, especially at night. 5) Breakfast Though our stay was short, the breakfast exceeded our expectations. We appreciated the focus on quality over quantity, and the sambal on the traditional banana leaf nasi lemak was a standout! Overall, we were thrilled to have chosen this heritage boutique hotel over the usual 5-star international brands. Highly recommended, and I’m already planning my next stay!

The hotel was so beautiful. The beds and linen felt super luxurious. The staff were amazing - super helpful. I asked for a few recommendations for dinner and got a whole page of great restaurants and places to see! Nothing seemed too difficult for any of the staff. Beautiful old style place that has been renovated, great location in the heart of Georgetown with everything in walking distance! Would definitely recommend staying here.

Good location on Chulia St within walking distance to restaurants cafes bars and attractions. The hotel has an old world charm and lovely decor. Very clean room with safe, writing desk and good shower. Great security with 24 hour front desk. Lots of maps and brochures of Georgetown and main attractions were available which were very helpful. Breakfast was included which featured cereals, eggs, yoghurt, fruit, toast/jam etc, roti and some curries. Also a selection of Nyonya snacks and sweets. The coffee machine was popular. The pool looked clean with step access although we didn't use it. We made use of the 24 hour laundry service which was efficient. We had a ground floor room so request this if you need it as there is no lift. There was also fresh drinking water facilities in the courtyard for hotel guests - much appreciated. Staff were friendly and arranged a taxi to the airport for us on the last day. There are free shuttle bus routes around Georgetown so look for these on the maps.

Ensure you request a ground floor room if needed as there are no elevators. The mattress and pillows were quite firm. We had a large bed but there was no bedside table on my side. The roads/paths around the hotel are quite uneven so watch your step. Hats/sunglasses are essential for walking due to the midday heat.

We had a great stay in a beautiful hotel. The staff were great and so helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was delicious with a variety of offerings. Lots of areas to sit and relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Jalan Chulia where the hotel is located can become quite busy with cars and people. It's mainly bars, hawker stalls and restaurants. Venture to other streets like Jalan Armenian for quieter and more pleasant ambling with more shopping. Other streets also have more interesting and quieter restaurants.

The property felt like we were experiencing true Penang. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast set us up well for a day exploring Penang. The location made it easy to access the heart of Penang.

Preparation of our room type despite prior communication and assurance was not reliable but was sorted on our arrival. It is a slightly noisy location late into the evening and early morning. We were disappointed that a "courtyard room" did not mean a courtyard view but rather a small window view of the car park at the back of the hotel. The bathroom lacks good ventilation.

Would highly recommend. Rooms are reasonably sized, not loads of space for an extended stay but the communal areas are lovely and the location more than makes up for it. Very helpful staff too. Only downside is the average breakfast - but again, the location so good that there are an abundance of good options nearby - perfect for getting to old town, little india, china town and beyond

Breakfast leaves a bit to be inspired, and rooms are not so big - but big enough for 2 people for sure.

Yeng Keng Heritage Hotel is a beautifully restored 19th-century building that has retained much of its original charm. The architecture is a blend of Chinese, Indian, and European influences, which reflects the multicultural heritage of Penang. The hotel’s interior is elegantly decorated with period furnishings, colourful Peranakan tiles, and antique pieces, creating a nostalgic and historical ambience. We appreciate the meticulous attention to detail in preserving the heritage elements.

Beautiful interior. Great location. Polite staff Overall, a positive experience

- breakfast is the same everyday - their double bed is actually two beds pushed together, mine happened to be making a lot of noise every time I move - pillows are too soft - staff are all polite especially the guard and the Indian lady at the entrance, but one time, I needed some directions to a famous food stalls nearby, she told me she would get the front desk to assist us, we waited at the front yard for a good 10 mins but no one came. Turned out, the front desk staff was there all along at the reception! Miscommunication perhaps? I don't know - Lastly, if you didn't leave a "do not disturb" tag on your door handle, they will knock on your door at 9 am. You can't sleep in.

We stayed at the Yeng Keng for 9 nights and it was one of the nicest, loveliest hotels we've ever stayed in. The building itself has been lovingly restored, with period furniture in the public spaces and beautiful tile and artwork. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Chulia Suite which felt more like a little one bedroom apartment which was nice because of our long stay. The staff were available 24/7 and helped us out with some local information and were really friendly and kind. Also, Chulia Street is kind of a big bar/nightlife area, but our room was very quiet - we were never awoken by loud noises, except for the Imam's prayers at a nearby Mosque. The Yeng Keng is fabulous - highly recommended!

A great location in the middle of the old town handy to everything including lots of great food and museum attractions. The manager and staff are friendly and professional folks who looked after us very well. It made me happy to feel so welcome. I loved the design of the historical hotel building, which is extremely comfortable and well maintained. There is a wonderful atmosphere about the place.. We loved being able to enjoy the pool in the afternoons after getting very warm wandering Georgetown in the mornings.

It is an expensive place to stay, but worth it for the location and boutique style of accommodation. It is a hotel to remember and appreciate, not just sleep in and forget.
