Its a very cozy hotel , the surronding area is very good. Alkmaar is a small city and this hotel is situated very conveniently. from the Alkmaar station its about 15 mnts walk but if you have heavy luggage take a taxi dont walk its far when you walk. I had a back pack it was a good walk as wanted to see the walk path to/from station. € 8-9 taxi. If departing from AMS schipol take the intercity train to ALKMAAR not alkmaar nord. may be you will have one change in between. take a one way day ticket aprx € 12. if travelling by train where ever opt for return day tickets but to Alkmaar you cannot use Amsterdam only tickets. From the hotel if you go right hand side you get supermarket jumbo they have many food items. The hotel room & toilet condition was good n clean. bed linen fresh n clean, kettle and tea stuff given no drinking bottles of water. plenty of space to keep clothes. no safe locker. please note NO LIFT I made a blunder by asking for a upper floor room lol. reception staff welcoming and fast check in. wifi very good.

At checkin time hot water for a shower was not there but quickly it was rectified. No lift. no pipe music in the lobby.

Room was spacious and linen was clean. Big bathroom. The main street is adjacent to the street the hotel is situated at. The weekend market is right at the hotel's doorstep! The bicycle rental shop is just round the corner so it's convenient. Very near the city centre where the cheese market is held and yet not right where the noise is.

It is some walking distance (11 minutes) from the train station so with a lot of luggage, this would be difficult. But it's a stone's throw from the city centre.

The location of the Grand Hotel Alkmaar is superb—right in the center of Alkmaar and close to restaurants, shops, parking, and the cheese market. The staff was wonderful—warm, helpful, and gracious. Breakfast featured lots of choices and a great coffee machine so that you could be your own barista.

The bathroom had little counter space —room for a toothbrush but not much more, and the shower could be improved with the addition of a handheld device. Please add a couple of hooks for towels.

Great location surrounded by amenities. The staff were helpful and friendly and gave us restaurant recommendations and let us store our bikes in their shed. The rooms were comfortable but there was some noise at night even though we were on the quieter side of the building. But that’s because the hotel was so central!

The breakfast was very expensive so we didn’t have it.

The bedding is a bit basic - no matress topper, extra pillows or comfort blanket :-( Nice - very private and quiet room at the rear of the Hotel. No dedicated parking for bicycles ?? Coffee machine much appreciated. Bar deserted - should maybe offer some incentive to residents ?? Great location, sympathetically restored building but lacking the wow factor. Room for improvement :-)

Bedding.

The location is right in the centre of the old town. Friendly and helpful staff. The room is tastefully decorated and decent size. Despite not having a window, the room was bright, thanks to the roof window, which you can open and close easily with a remote control.

One reading light didn't work. Perhaps an extra cabinet or side table in the large bathroom would be a nice touch, we couldn't place our toiletry bags anywhere in the bathroom, except by the sink (and not really enough space).

Good central location close to old town and main shopping streets

Breakfast was a real letdown. Staff were completely inattentive and too busy on their mobile phones to clear away used pates. Food choice was poor quality, scrambled eggs covered in salt and cold. Room layout was absolutely bizarre! See photos. Don't bother with the upgrade and choose a standard room where the layout is "normal".

Stayed here before so we knew the location was great! Right in Alkmaar town centre; close to all the pubs, bars, eateries etc. :) Also the Reception staff were lovely - blonde receptionist in particular; made so much time for us - was really appreciated!

This is just a personal preference, but we didn’t have a full length mirror in the room, which meant getting ready was a bit difficult - but no major issues :)

Great location for seeing Alkmaar old city. Walking distance to everything, nice staff and comfortable rooms.

It was quite noisy at night but that’s understandable given the central location (plus there was a carnival in town so maybe it’s not usually so noisy).

beautiful, historical property which was well-kept and neat

my room had a very loud fan that I couldn’t switch off. fortunately I got used to the sound on the second night and all was fine. as the whole experience was absolutely lovely, I wasn’t bothered by it too much. as for breakfast: scrambled eggs could be improved (were rather dry) :).
