The location is fabulous, right on the canal side with a great bar/restaurant. Despite being right in the thick of things, we slept soundly on the comfy beds and it was so quiet we couldn’t quite believe it. We were to the back of the property overlooking the rooftops. The room is pretty small, but perfect for our needs and up a few skinny staircases so avoid if you have mobility issues! The wet room bathroom and shower pressure suited us well. It was hot but there was a aircon unit in the room which did cool things down well, but was sooooo noisy! Once the room was cool enough we turned it off and opened a window for the night.

We really liked the whole feel and location and staff. No complaints but not for everyone. Suits maybe younger guest due to the stairs. People with a lot of luggage might want to chose a place with bigger rooms.

Wolf Kitchen and bar is in a great location right on the main canal and close to the cheese weigh house and town square. It is walking distance from everything and close to great restaurants, bars and shopping. The owner could not have been more helpful and accomodating. He attended to our every request with good humour and efficiency. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The food on offer is fabulous both at Wolf and the Italian next door owned by Wolf as well. We had breakfast included with our room. It was a sight to behold. Breakfast was a huge two tier platter that included fresh strawberries, melon, local yogurt, fresh baked bread, boiled eggs, bacon, ham, Dutch pancakes with icing sugar and maple syrup and so much more. Do not miss this.

The property dates from the 1600’s so has loads of character but some seriously scary stairs. Well worth remembering for any one with a fear of heights or with a lot of luggage to carry up the stairs- no lifts.

Friendly Staff, good amenities and comfortable bed :) Right in front of the cheese market. There was a terrace, but we didn’t use it much.

The terrace and the room were right on top of the restaurant. But it was very calm and not noisy. The room smelled really good, but the terrace didn’t really. We had a problem with the warm water, but the staff took care of it right away and the problem was solved within 15 mins. We also got more time to check out because of this.

Loved the bath, the large bed and spacious room. very smart to provide earplugs for the guests not used to city sounds. we loved that the room was at the street side. on request a beautiful set of fresh flowers were present on arrival that really added to the room. breakfast was very nice and personal. every one of the hotel and bar staff we talked to had a great positive vibe. loved it. the cocktails and finger food were amazing. the location within Alkmaar is amazing. Great coffee and food places surrounding the hotel.

only very small things.as in more tips than something else. great experience. 1. it would add to have an extra wifi repeater at the top of the top room so that wifi is available on the bed (and the room) 2. new and fluffy towels. the current ones are good, but are not in line with the greatness of the room. 3. some bath bubbles for in the bath tub would be amazing. 4. perhaps change the coffee bean used into another taste profile. I think this can be improved to a superb experience.

Loved the bed, super comfortable and cosy sheets. Was pleasantly surprised to find there was an AC unit in the room, which is kinda rare at this kinda hotel in Europe. Shower had decent water pressure (but no movable head). Staff were helpful and accommodating, bringing our luggage up to the room for us (super appreciated given tons of stairs!). Right next to the canal and central high street in Alkmaar with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants very close!

Stairs up to the room were still pretty rough; I wouldn't recommend for anyone old/unfit or bringing large luggage. It's understandable given the age of the building, and the staff helped bring the bags up when we arrived, but it's still worth noting. Shower was pleasant, but ceiling only (no movable head) and drained very slowly. The design of the shower had no door either, so the slow draining caused it to leak out of the main door into the carpet in the room as a result :(

The location was great! Right in the middle of the old town. The house has that certain something. A charm of the past. Authentically furnished with attention to detail. The staff was very nice and always helpful. The food in the restsurant and the breakfast were also delicious.

There was a foul smell coming from the drain in the shower that was constantly there. We solved the problem with a bath towel that we placed on the drain. Then ventilate it vigorously and it was gone.

I loved this hotel. Will 100% be back. It was my first time in the Netherlands and first time in Alkmaar and I was put at ease as soon as I walked in. I was travelling for work so I was in the office majority of the day. The hotel is very close to the town centre and beside lots of cute shops to go for a nosy in. The area around the hotel is very picturesque and so was the premises. I couldn't fault anything about it. I felt this hotel really gave a nod to the Netherland culture with the hotel in the style of a house. The food at the hotel was also amazing. For dinner I had the burger and couldn't fault it one bit. The breakfast was the star of the show. You were sat down to pancakes, fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, cheese, ham, pastries, etc... Everything you would want from breakfast and more. Dutch is also not my first language and don't have any experience with this and all the staff accommodated me greatly. I didn't get to explore the area that much but it is surrounded by many bars and restaurants.

I was near the top of the house and had a room opposite mine. The only issue I had was when doors were opening and closing, I could hear this and other's coming in and out in the early hours of the morning had woken me up. To compensate this, the hotel already had 2x pairs of earbuds for noise cancelling which was appreciated greatly.

Perfectly right in the middle of Alkmar. Typical netherlands style with simple, tasteful furniture and equipment, very small stairs and rooms. Very nice pub in basement, friendly reception. Really good and recommended breakfast. Even, if you stay somewhere else. Very good restaurant nearby.

Like normal in this type of hotels a bit on the brink about cleanliness. Really challenging stairs, if you try with suitcase. Parking was a task, also - well, what do you expect in the center?

It was difficult to manage the stairs with large size suitcases - better suited for short stay travel. Our initial room had our bed on a mezzanine which wasn't suitable - we were grateful to be changed rooms for our 2nd night - staff were very helpful.

wonderful location right in (pedestrian) Alkmaar old center just across from the Cheese Weighhouse. Gorgeous! Breakfast was very nice. Staff was nice.

It was LOUD!!! Not only the carillon of the Cheese House but who makes that much noise every night drinking and partying in the streets/bars in the nasty winter weather? Not their first complaint re: this as there are a pair of ear plugs provided on each side of the bed.
