The Mai Hotel is a perfect place to stay while visiting Amsterdam. It’s locate near the train station and within walking distance of everything. It’s also located within one of the quieter areas of the city on one of the many canals. The staff is extremely nice and the room was large and very clean.

The walls of the hotel are very thin and you could hear the sounds of your neighbors on various floors. Since this hotel is in a building that was constructed during the early ages of the city, this is understandable and doesn’t take away from the overall ambience. If you’re looking for a room with a view, you’ll need to book it far in advance; otherwise, you may be looking at a brick wall.

Canal view, quiet, and location

We needed to go to the Viking river cruise dock. We asked the hotel to book a taxi for us. We were quoted approximately $27…however the driver charged us $50 instead. The worst part was the driver dropped us off at a different Viking location. We needed to walk 1 mile plus (with our luggage) to our ship dock. I was recovered from my hip replacement surgery. Very bad work attitude and dishonesty to the taxi driver. Mai hotel did a horrible job to find us this private car( not a taxi on meter). Be aware! Double check the price before you stepped in the car.

This was an outstanding hotel that lived up to its four stars. I was traveling with my sister, so we wanted twin beds, which aren't very common in big European cities, and we got exactly what we asked for. Plus the bathroom and shower stall were large, the beds extremely comfortable, and the room very quiet. The staff was consistently helpful and friendly. The location was ideal: near but not too close to the train station and within walking distance (if you like long walks, which we do) of almost all the museums we had tickets to. Amsterdam is a wonderful place for walking along the canals, and this hotel was right on a very pleasant canal and near good restaurants (also not far from the red light district, but that's just a normal part of Amsterdam, and the hotel's own street was not affected.) Oh yes, in addition, the hotel had an alternative, inexpensive continental breakfast of hot drinks and croissants, which was all we ever want in the morning. Perfect!

Our room was too dark, but this was in part because it opened onto a small green space between buildings. I can't complain, though, because that was what made it so quiet. Plus, the hotel didn't have many rooms with twin beds, and that was the most important thing about our room request. Still, more and/or brighter electric lights would have been nice.

Excellent hotel in a great location only 5 mins walk from the central station. The staff were super friendly and very welcoming. We hadn't booked breakfast but were able to do that easily on arrival. The breakfast was very good. The bedroom was lovely, very spacious and very clean. The beds were really comfy. The hotel is located in the heart of the red light district which we loved! It is so vibrant and buzzy with loads of great bars and restaurants right on your door step. All the main attractions are a very short walk from this hotel

Sadly, the curse of booking a room on booking.com strikes again. I find that when you book through this portal you are ALWAYS given a room with little or no view at all. I know you can request this when you book but there is always a rider to say the hotel do not have to fulfil this request. As it has now happened to us so consistently we are in future going to book direct with the hotel as rooms overlooking a car park, back alley or brick wall are not very inspiring!!

Very comfortable modern new rooms. I think we booked an upgrade but our room was very spacious with a seperate sitting area. I had food poisoning traveling to Amsterdam so spent the first 3 days not leaving the room and it was a very comfortable clean place to rest while getting better. The seperate sitting area/couch also meant my partner had his own space to go to while I slept. The staff were lovely as we extended our stay due to me being unwell, they also changed the bed sheets when we asked as I’d been very sweaty while sick. The location was amazing, close to the city centre and my partner enjoyed exploring and found some good places to smoke within walking distance. Will definitely book here again on our next trip to Amsterdam.

The staff were helpful and welcoming to us. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was great. Location was ideal - just 5 min walk from Central Station. We asked for 2 rooms next to each other and for one to be a twin and both requests were granted- we couldn't ask for more.

Breakfast was basic but good - there were items available to order but we had to hunt a member of staff down, to place our order. The room had nowhere to unpack our clothes into, and only a small hanging area - which is ok for a short stop. We had quite a lot of noise from people above us moving around - but very little street noise. Very hard to fault it.

Nice location on a quiet street with nice views of the channel.

Strange hours for daily cleaning of rooms - between 15 and 18 if you will not ask specific time. When we arrived it was no hengers in our room, not a single one. For the breakfast you have to choose a time for the whole stay.

The hotel is lovely and clean. A very short walk from new market, 15 min walk from the flower market. The room is clean, has a kettle, tea bags and coffee, nespresso machine with 4 pods. The domestic lady was lovely. As a wheelchair user we could not access the breakfast area so they accommodated us well by setting us up with a canal view in the honesty bar and helping us with breakfast.

We bought the room on the basis of a wheelchair user. We informed them in advance and was told it was a wheelchair suitable room, sadly this is not the case. Whilst the doors are wide enough to get though in a wheelchair you can only access on side of the bed meaning you can’t open a window. The shower is not wide enough and has no suitable shower seat or grab rails, likewise no rails for getting on and off the toilet.

Hotel room was lovely with a nice view over a canal. Having a table and chairs to sit at was welcomed. Location was great. Very close to the Centraal Railway station where you could catch trams to city sights. Loved being able to have drinks at the end of the day in the hotels bar area. Overall a great stay.

We arrived by train at 2.30. On booking in we’re advised that our room would not be ready until at least 4.00 pm. Check in was from 3.00pm so was not that happy with the delay. For the four days we were there housekeeping only came to our room once in the late afternoon. Breakfast could have been more varied. French bread and cheeses other than sliced cheese would have been nice. With this said, we loved this hotel and would stay there again.

Amazing location. Everything is within walking distance. We stayed in King Room with a canal view. I highly recommend it. It was big and cozy enough for 2 people(a couple). The view is lovely, the streets are quiet during nighttime. It was rainy during our stay but the room temperature is perfect and the heating system is working perfectly. The bed is super comfy and clean with white linens. There isn't a mini fridge in the room but there's a coffee machine with new pods every day. The bathroom is clean, new, and well-built. The shower/hot water is working fine and is very pleasant to use. The staff is communicating well and is friendly. We had a couple of requests and they responded perfectly. We did not visit the other facilities at the hotel, so I can't comment on breakfast, bar, or other services. I highly recommend Hotel Mai, I've visited Amsterdam a couple of times and stayed at different places but on my next trip, I'm choosing Hotel Mai again.

I wish there was a mini fridge but I understand why they exclude it.
