We chose this place for the novelty of staying on a boat, and it lived up to those expectations. Located in an easily accessible suburb across the bay from Amsterdam Central, this hotel is easily accessible by a free ferry that operates every 15-30 minutes, time of day depending. It was meticulously clean, and the breakfast was delicious. The 24/7 access to coffee and tea facilities was also greatly appreciated.

Staying on a boat means there are some compromises, and one of them is sound. The walls are paper thin, which means you hear everything and if you are a light sleeper, it can mean a restless night. The rooms would also do well to include a full length or more accessible mirror on the bathroom door.

It was a delight to stay on this historic steam ship which built in 1911 . It has many original features and panoramic views of the river IJ. Although it is on the north side of the river there are free direct ferries every 15 minutes from the nearby pier to the central station, which take 15 minutes and bring you right into the centre of town. You can have a nice breakfast onboard and there are restaurants on the waterfront for other meals ( if you didn’t eat in the centre of town). Most importantly the staff are excellent , (particular thanks to Anthony and Richard who took a lot of trouble to make my stay as good as possible.). Of course this cannot be compared to a standard hotel - the rooms are ships’ cabins and are small but clean and comfortable. Kapitein Anna provides a unique and charming way to visit Amsterdam and I look forward to staying there again.

Nothing- I was really pleased with the whole experience.

The room was extremely clean and a cosy size. The accommodation had been well-maintained throughout - you could tell that this old ship had been loved and cared for over the years. Staying there was a real experience and completely different to anywhere else I have ever stayed! The beds were comfortable and the facilities in the room (such as the modern shower) surprised us with how good they were given the age of the boat. Guests could help themselves to a coffee machine in the main area which was a nice touch. I imagine the top deck is particularly lovely in the summer months. The location worked well for us. It is in a quieter area, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it still has great local bakeries, a small supermarket and a creative arts scene. Having to catch a (free) ferry to reach the accommodation added to the overall experience.

Nothing! It was fantastic as a budget-friendly option. The rooms don't have all of the flash, luxury modcons and lots of excess space which one may find in a more modern accommodation - but that's because it is a vintage paddle steamer! It suited our needs on a short city break perfectly.

Staying at Kapitein Anna was delightful! The paddle-boat was built in 1911, and has an interesting history. The interior has been renovated but the owners maintained the boat's charm, preserving the rich wooden walls and brass fixtures. My cabin had two windows offering very pleasant views of the lake. The bathroom was modern with a nice shower, from which I could see out into the lake. The bed was very comfortable, and the A/C was exceptional. The boat's top deck had tables for relaxing and enjoying the awesome view of the lake. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and in addition to the meats and cheeses and fresh fruits and pastries, the staff also cooked eggs and bacon to order. The staff were extremely helpful, cheerful and welcoming. The hotel is located about a five-minute walk from the free ferry that conveys passengers across the lake, to and from the central train station. So at Kapitein Anna, you get a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city center, but it's only a 15 minute ferry ride away. If you're looking for a unique and comfortable place to stay while visiting Amsterdam, choose the Kapitein Anna. You won't be disappointed!

We loved Kapitein Anna! It was beautiful and well kept and quite comfortable for a boat. The layout of the bathroom was efficient, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were soft. The location was so convenient: we had been traveling for a while and had a lot of luggage and I think that the location (a ferry right across from the main train station) was more convenient than most locations because there was very little schlepping required. You cross a street, get on the ferry, and the hotel is a quick walk from the ferry dock on the other side. Bonus: you can see the hotel from the ferry so it’s just that much easier for the weary traveler to find! The staff is friendly and the breakfast was very good. We hope to stay again soon.

Nothing!

This was such a fun place to stay! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and check-in was super easy. The free breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of food. One of the proprietors even offered each day to make us eggs, any style. The location was easier to get to than I expected. There's a free ferry that runs very frequently from just outside the central station; it took about 10 minutes. Near the boat are several restaurants, or you can take the ferry to Centraal and find any number of places to eat nearby. The rooms are small since it's a boat, but the beds were comfortable, and each room had its own bathroom. When we weren't sleeping, we spent our time there either on the main level or the upper level; there is plenty of seating, and the upper level has a very nice view of the harbor.

It would have been useful to have more electrical outlets.

Very nice establishment. The location is awesome, you can get there with the free ferry behind the Amsterdam Central Station. The ferries drive weekdays until 1:45 am and weekends till 3:15 am The staff is very friendly, you can get coffee and tea for free and the boat bar is open till 10 pm. The rooms are really nice and cozy and lack nothing. All necceseray commodities were in the room. You even get free water bottles in your room which is a nice touch. There are only single beds but if you ask the hotel beforehand you can get a room where you can push the beds together. The beds are very comfortable and the ship motions rocked me to a great night's sleep. The price is one of the cheapest for a hotel in Amsterdam and the establishment is just awesome. 10/10 I recommend Kaptein Anna and would visit it again. I already miss sleeping on this cozy boat.

The only “negative thing” about our room was, if you push the beds together, there's a little gap between them, which wasn't a huge issue.

The staff was very helpful. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean, though needed more ventilation. Having access to a coffee machine and fresh fruit was great. It was very nice to sit and have a coffee on the foredeck. The boat is also easy walking distance to the ferry and a supermarkt. I would stay onboard again.

Since the cabins are at the waterline, the ports (windows) couldn't be opened. Instead, an AC unit was in the cabin to control air circulation. This was a good idea, but in May, it was a little cool with it on. Perhaps a fan would have been a good addition/alternative... or some kind of marine ventilator.

Breakfast was fine, although I only ate one time while there. Because there is grocery within short walk, it was easier to go to grocery, for bigger, more precise selection. If you are coming from Shipol Airport, buy a train ticket for €5.70 (7.22.2022) and go directly to Central Station Amsterdam. Find your way out the “back” of the terminal and find ferries that go to pier 6. Ferry is free and landing is right next to Pier 6. The ferry will be the one at extreme left side of all ferries there at central station.

Anthony was a wonderful host,. Excellent and unlimited breakfast, small but functional cabins. In the evening after returning from the city tour, we could have tea and coffee, free of charge, and sit on the upper deck as long as we wanted. The Central station and the center are very easy to reach with free ferries. A few minutes' walk and you are close to a couple of restaurants.
