-Location - on the edge of the village, walking distance, but be prepared for a hill - not as bad as some others in NZ, but certainly not flat! -Access and parking - parking is on the driveway and there is a flight of stairs or 2 up into the house. -Restaurants - some nice ones in the village, but beware, out of season they close much earlier than advertised. We struggled to get a table anywhere at 7:30pm, despite most of the restaurants saying they close at 9pm. -Staff / hosts - the hosts were both absolutely lovely. We got on with them very well and they were happy to give advice on where to go and what to do. But by the same token, I know that if you prefer to keep to yourself that they wouldn’t be intrusive at all. -WiFi speed - 23 mbps down and 22 mbps up. This was in our room which was the back of the house. We didn’t check it toward the front but the living area was available for us to use and while we were there another guest was using her laptop for work. -Breakfast - cold fruits, muesli etc, hot croissant, followed by a very nice cooked breakfast. One of the best we have had while we have been in NZ. -Facilities - a large shared very comfortable social area both inside and out, and a hot tub which was available to use - though we didn’t venture. The view from the social area / breakfast area is amazing, and most, if not all rooms appear to be set up with a snippet of the bigger view. We also had outside seating just outside our room as well as the main area available to us. -Bed - really comfortable. -Temperature - No aircon in the room, but it didn’t need it as it was well shaded on the warm days. Radiator in the room for if it was cold. -Shower - very nice, with consistent temperature and pressure. We also had a lovely double ended bath which I have decided I want the exact size of at home! -Overall - an absolutely beautiful property with lovely hosts, a great breakfast, and a great view. Best place we have stayed in 3 months of NZ!

Gail and Brendon are perfect hosts, well organised, flexible, professional yet also chatty, helpful and approachable when wanted. Their home and rooms are beautifully french chic styled with stunning views and contemporary facilities. The outdoor hot tubs are a great addition as are the eco aware products. The breakfast and welcome touches bountiful and delicious. Walking distance to cute shops, the beach and the bush. Can’t recommend enough and I intend to stay again

Gail and Brendon were the nicest hosts and really looked after us during our staying at Newton Heights in Akaroa. The breakfasts, served on the verandah with views to the bay, are made by Gayle and really are the best ever and set us up till dinner time! Brendon helped us with which restaurants to try and locations to drive or hike, and his advice was spot on. Such a special part of NZ but it helps to have local knowledge. I loved that the house is situated 5 mins away from the main street in town - close enough to easily walk in for an icecream, but far enough to be away from the tourists and relax quietly in the hot tub. Perfect place to stay and we would definitely come again. Wonderful hosts who really care and enjoy meeting their visitors. Thank you Gayle and Brendon very much for having us to stay.

Nothing at all!

The Kingfisher unit that we stayed in was really brilliant. Modern, beautifully decorated and super comfortable. We loved the balcony that wrapped around it and the awesome views from it. The quality of everything at Newton Heights was excellent and Gail and Brendon were superb friendly hosts. Lovely breakfast on our terrace and the hot tub was amazing to sit in and take in the views or the stars at night!

Gail & Brendan were an absolute delight, they were warm, welcoming and fantastically thoughtful hosts. We felt very comfortable and at ease from the moment they answered the door, we were deflated to leave. The room was beautiful, completely private, absolutely comfortable with its own gorgeous bathroom and special views. The cooked breakfast was to die for, hands down one of the best breakfasts we’ve experienced. The thought that went into making our stay special was nothing short of unbelievable, we were delivered to our restaurant at night, our wonderful hosts only a text away. Nothing was too much trouble, we felt so comfortable in Gail & Brendan’s home, such a lovely unique experience, there was nothing that was too much trouble for these 10/10 ⭐️ hosts. We loved our stay at Newton Heights. Gail and Brendon immediately made us feel welcome and at home, and the place was beautifully decorated with plenty of places to relax, including a hot tub/spa! They went out of their way to make our visit as special as possible. The vegetarian breakfasts were also exceptional and we were just gutted we couldn’t stay longer! Would definitely recommend!

It was absolutely stunning—inside and out. It is so beautifully done. It just has a great atmosphere on the property and inside.

There is nothing we would change. If we had known it was going to be so great, we would have stayed for a week or two instead of 2 days. We really hope to return again soon. We absolutely loved it!!

This is a beautiful B & B. The hosts Gail and Brendon were fantastic. They were warm, friendly and very accommodating. We had wonderful conversations. The room was clean and well appointed. The home has spectacular views of the lake and mountains . Our room had a small patio with wonderful plantings and views. The breakfast was delicious and generous. We were sorry we couldn't stay longer.

This is truly a nice bed and breakfast. The house is very nice, the hosts were gracious and helpful and the breakfasts were wonderful. Our room was in the main house, but they also offer three brand new, self contained apartments next door. Everything about our stay was perfect.

We only were able to stay two nights.

We had no choice! Newton Heights had the last available room in the whole of the centre of Akaroa on Booking.com when we were trying to secure a place to stay. Yet a stroke of serendipity turned no choice to be our best choice. What a nice surprise! Brendan and Gail have the most beautiful house created with an abundance of architectural aesthetics. Our bedroom was tastefully decorated and the bathroom was sparkling clean and supplied with various amenities and toiletries. Outside the corner sliding doors of the bedroom, there is a private decked area where one evening I saw a native NZ bird, tūī, on a branch of a tree in the garden. It was a delightful experience. Brendan and Gail spoiled us with warmest hospitality and utmost attentiveness. Tea was served and wine also offered. Brendan was most helpful in giving us great advices as to where to dine and places to visit providing much ease for us to find our way around the area. We particularly enjoyed Gail's delicious full breakfasts served in the balcony with a magnificent view of the bay.

The house is situated on a slope, therefore, guests would need to drive and turn their cars with a bit more care.
