An outstanding genuine bed and breakfast in a beautiful home. The home was clean, artfully decorated and beautiful, wi-fi worked well, breakfast was delicious and many food options were offered. The hosts, Steve and Chet, helped us orient to the city and find the things we needed, supplied a map, made suggestions about possible activities and restaurants, and had top-up cards available for public transit and a local laundromat. The hosts are particularly helpful and charming. One of the very best B&B experiences we've had--perhaps THE best-- and we've stayed at B& B's in many countries.

Located in a quiet area of Christchurch. Breakfast was a bit limited, but still tasty with various options to choose from. The hosts were very friendly and gave interesting sight seeing tips. The room is quite dated, but serves the purpose.

Bed had a pretty hard mattress. Investment in a better bed would be recommended. Bathroom area is too small for two people to be in simultaneously. Bed side table only at one side of the bed due to the limited size of the bedroom.

Supporting a family business; we were welcomed warmly and shown a map of the area; we were given restaurant suggestions; breakfast provided from 8-9: breakfast was yogurt, cereal choices, fruit bowl, toast with many choices of local jam, juice, milk choices and coffee; large windows in room that open easily; shower has hot water and strong water pressure; extra electrical plug ins provided; very quiet inside the house; a kitchenette with a fridge, coffee maker, mugs, 2 small tables and chairs; vintage furnishings and atmosphere; close to a local bus stop - easy to use bus system

In a neighborhood so we hear traffic and people during the day; pillows are thin/foam; only one nightstand; bathroom door was very near bed; room was darker than we like

Designer Cottage was a great value for Christchurch! The room was super cute and cozy. I loved the garden and outdoor table. There are lots of food options nearby. Breakfast was nice and the owner was very accommodating to my special dietary needs (gluten free and dairy free). He also provided plug adapters when mine stopped working and arranged for my early morning taxi to the airport.

The mattress sagged a bit and was also lacked cushioning; the pillows were flat. (I admit I'm picky.) Though downtown Christchurch is easily walkable, it's on a busy street and much of the walk is not that pleasant. These complaints are minor -- I would still stay there again!

Quiet location. Close enough to downtown to walk. Nice property to look at. Comfortable room. Decent coffee and lovely breakfast.

Curious design interaction between shower cubicle and toilet. The toilet bowl is squeezed into the far corner between wall and shower cubicle. In the shower cubicle the shower head is located so you can only really use about half the cubicle. That space would be sooo much more comfortable giving the toilet bowl a little more room. Not a show-stopper, not by a long shot, just a funny little 'inefficiency'.

The best part of this accommodation is Chet, owner. I have stayed in countless b-n-b types and he is the only one to exceed my expectations that started upon arrival. His warm caring manner with abundant locale info gave me what I needed to get oriented to the city. He gave me a choice of rooms. The breakfast room was delightful with plenty of cold foods to choose from along with lovely coffee choices. Chet did a great job of giving all guests attention during breakfast and joined the conversation at the table.

As I left the property, I suggested that a table lamp be added to the room…the lighting was overhead and hard to read by.

Steve was our host. He was polite ,had a warm personality and very helpful as to what attractions to see and food outlets restaurants etc to be found locally. The cottage was within walking distance to the city centre, and was quite a quiet location.The continental breakfast was just fine for our needs. Steve even set breakfast out in our cottage for our early start the next day.

Nothing to really complain about. Perhaps a heater in the bathroom for those super cold mornings that we encountered.

Nothing not to like in our opinion

The property is nice just like its name, with a small well designed front garden and side entrance. Breakfast was quite good with healthy food and good choices of a continental variety. Friendly host and guests for nice chat at meal time. Close to bus routes and easier for those that do not drive.

Had to leave before the breakfast time for a flight, and would appreciate a bit packaged food to take with me. I did ask for/was given a yogurt that I did not use the day before. Would appreciate it as a regular offer like in other places I visited in the past.

It was a delight to stay at Designer Cottage and the cottage could not be faulted in any way shape or form. The owner was very obliging and went out of his way to accommodate us which was greatly appreciated. It was a pleasure to communicate him and he was extremely timely in his responsiveness. We would have no reservations in booking to stay there on our return trips to Christchurch. It would in fact be our accommodation of choice compared to other places we have stayed when visiting Christchurch.
