Breakfast was the star = properly tasty, seemed really home-cooked, not at all generic like so many hotel breakfasts nowadays, with the haggis a real treat! The character of the place was lovely, especially the library Nice bar as well after dinner Very good value for money for a twin room with breakfast Parking fine too

Showers weak At breakfast veggie options should have different serving spoons to meat ones Ceiling Lights at the bar later in the evening should be turned down a bit as quite bright, and there were more atmospheric lights that could have made the bar feel more inviting.

This was so far the cheapest and best hotel I had on my 13 day journey through Scotland. Very clean rooms-I also told the cleaner she’s doing a great job. The room was cozy and comfortable. It’s well-connected by bus if you don’t reach by car, 2 mins walk. It’s close to many points of attraction in Castletown-the flagstone abandoned village factory, as well as the northernmost tip of mainland UK, as well as a short bus trip to John O Great. The staff is sweet and accommodating and I definitely appreciated the choice of fruit for breakfast, after having had a lot of greasy breakfasts before. It is also close to a supermarket Spar, 2 mins walk.

What a great hotel. The staff are outstanding, genuinely friendly, and very helpful. What really stood out, though, was the food. The restaurant is roomy, and the menu had a little bit of something for everyone. Having been on the road for the last 4 weeks, eating out every night was becoming a chore. The Castletown hotel gave me the best meal I'd had so far. It was fresh, tasty, and imagine this. . . hot! I think this hotel has a lot of things going for it, and this is because of a great team of staff, both front of house and behind the scenes. It is great value, with honestly priced food and drink. Do yourself a favour, make the effort to stay, or just pop in for their food. You will not be disappointed.

I only stayed one night 😌

After a long drive and chilly visit to John O'Groats it was lovely to walk into a pre-heated, warm bedroom. There was a clean blanket, white fluffy towel, bowl and three treats to welcome my dog, which was so nice. The food was good, I counted seven different vegetables accompanying my chicken! Friendly, helpful staff and someone ensite overnight.

If hotels were portable I'd take this one with me everywhere I went. But maybe just have lower light switches for the bed lights as difficult to reach unless sitting upright!

Staff were great, food was really nice and excellent value for money. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the room we stayed in could be doing with a little TLC. Restaurant was really busy and no wonder you could not fault the food or the staff both were amazing. We had our dog with us so we stayed in a dog friendly room and the hotel is really dog friendly. When we arrived they provided a blanket, a towel, a bowel and treats for our dog which he loved. There is a £10 per night extra charge for your dog but we found this to be excellent value and some places charge much more and don’t provide anything for him.

We stayed in one of the “dog friendly” rooms. The room was perfectly clean and the bed was really comfortable but could be doing with some TLC. Quite a few marks on the walls and certainly now frills. Though the welcome tray was nice and the little extras provided for our dog were very welcome.

Castletown Hotel, is a great place to stay in a convenient location, close to local places of interest and a variety of costal and woodland walks and ample parking space. The hotel is very clean and well presented in keeping the lovely traditional style of the building. Lovely bar area and a beautiful library reading lounge to relax and read or play board games, chess board and various other games with a copious amount of books available to utilise during your stay. The en-suite room was also clean and well presented the bed was very comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities with complimentary biscuits and TV. The free WiFi was great. I had an evening meal at the hotel both nights I tried the Vegetarian Haggis Crepe starter course which I had with the Onion Stack the first night and it was absolutely delicious, I enjoyed it so much I just the had to have the Haggis Crepe on my second night. For breakfast there was a variety of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, and juices, with a super hot food selection to accommodate vegetarian tastes. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay. Would definitely recommend.

It doesn't look much from the front but it's great inside. Free parking on carpark or on road (safe), staff were amazing especially the waitress I think her name was jane or Janet. Right on the nc500, we arrived at 6.30pm wet and weary but sat down to a lovely steak and a few drinks before falling into bed. We had our dog with us so sat in the bar for meals including a great breakfast; I was happy to see fresh fruit after days of fry ups! Dog bowl, towell and blanket left in room. Minutes from Dunnet Bay. Would stay again.

Lovely location if you stray off the Main Street and visit the harbour. Very nice interior/dining room etc. Very comfortable, clean room. Evening food was exceptional, with quality produce and large portion sizes. Breakfast was also lovely, with lots of options and buffet arrangements, which is always a bonus for those with healthy appetites. The staff were all so helpful and friendly.

The view from our room was out onto a flat roof, with not much beyond. To be honest though, we couldn’t have cared less and it didn’t affect our stay at all.

The staff were all efficient, friendly and helpful. Reception is staffed 24hrs - useful if you are delayed on the long journey north. An excellent cooked or continental breakfast was available from 6am to 9am. There is a pleasant short walk to the sea and the hotel has sensible arrangements for dog-owners. Highly recommended.

The ensuite WC and shower room had a window that looked out on to the street - it did have obscured glass - but a blind or curtain was not fitted and this is needed after dark. I left early and did not have time to mention this to staff - if I had done, I have no doubt it would have been remedied.

Booked this hotel for two nights to repair a customers machine , on arrival found the place just spot on for what we required , (wife came too to help with the driving and our little dog too). Checked in to find the dog was really well catered for with bowls blanket and treats in the room , went for some food (there was a coach trip in so was told there might be a wait , there was no wait to mean anything ). Soon as we sat down the dog was cared for again with a bowl of water and treats (fab touch). Food was really good with good portions. My only moan would be the mattress was passed it’s best and I didn’t sleep too well , next night I slept on top of the quilt which was much better. Great breakfast and the dog was treated again to a sausage even cut up too. Would definitely stay again.
