Breakfast was excellent and the waitstaff were very engaged. The bedroom was spacious and clean. And, the common area "drawing" rooms were something right out of "Downton Abbey."
The dining room offered fine dining in the evening which was excellent. But, you could only eat at the same location one or two nights. After that, the only option was in the new, sterile looking lunch room. There was absolutely no ambiance in that room which reminded me of a McDonalds. The room was great for lunch or for families, but not for nice dinner - especially considering we were in a historic castle. An alternative could have been the beautiful old bar which would have been great for late night snacks and a cocktail. Unfortunately, the staff refused to open the room.

The property is beautiful. Wish we were able to stay at the castle instead of the lodge. But the lodge was still good. Large bathroom. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel were nice.
The furnitures in our room at the lodge showed signs of worn out.

Beautiful place. Had horses an donkies outside that the kids enjoyed interacting with. Our hotel room was a little dated but clean and comfortable. No AC - wasn't a problem since it wasn't hot and this was Mid August.
The staff taking our breakfast order seemed annoyed and impatient. A different staff member scolded us when my 4-year-old started playing on the floor next to us. While I understand that my child shouldn’t have been doing that and that it could be hazardous for the staff and others (which I was trying to address), I did not appreciate the way we were spoken to—judgmental with some annoyance. These two interactions left a bad taste, and I'm unsure if I want to return to this hotel. During our 2-week vacation, I've stayed in six hotels, and this is the only place where I encountered such negative interactions with the staff. Otherwise the rest of the stay was pleasant. I would still recommend this hotel to others.

The grounds and our room were beautiful and comfortable. The reception staff very nice and friendly. The later check out (noon) greatly appreciated, especially when so many are going to a 10 checkout. If given an option between to hotels, the later checkout would be a deciding factor. It gave us time to walk the grounds and enjoy the donkeys!
The breakfast had so much potential. We were really looking forward to it. However, the actual food was terrible. The porridge was so runny, the two small pancakes were like cardboard, and the ham on the eggs Benedict was cold. Terrible breakfast. The staff serving us was not great either. I was so disappointed. Having said that, don't pay extra for the breakfast, but definitely stay if you can!

Always love coming back here for complete chill out, everything you could want from a stay in an exceptional castle, and more. Esther and her team, and the entire staff couldn't have been nicer. They were very attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel so comfortable. The AHERN room is sensational, nicely furnished with a wonderful view of the gardens, clean, warm and have all the amenities needed. The breakfast was fantastic. The service was astounding. This is a great location, a great castle, with exceptional attention to guests. I don't know how/why it isn't 5 star! I'd recommend this place to anyone. We loved every minute of our stay and we will 100% be back. Thank you, Nataliya & Christopher

Gorgeous place to stay, so fun to explore within the castle, and our room in the west wing was exceedingly comfortable and spacious. Everything was terrific!
My kids are allergic to dogs, and while the “castle dog” didn’t bother them, one was really determined to enjoy our dinner by laying right next to our table. Most people would love that, but we had to find a staff member to help encourage him to leave (we were sitting in an overflow room with no one else around.)

Fabulous historic building, lovely setting
No ramp for suitcases Rude (Eastern European) receptionist at check in. Said my card declined along with both my friends travelling with me. When I pointed out it was a problem with their system she was having not of it! We said we would leave it till morning. In the morning lovely Irish receptionist got us all paid with no problem Another niggle was they would not open Poppy’s bar for drinks??? We got drinks from bar but had to carry them to the lounge, no waiter service in the lounges

We had hoped for a room in the Castle itself, so we were initially disappointed when told we were in the Guest House/Gatekeeper Cottage at the entrance to the Estate. Until we opened our Room door that is. Amazing room with lots of space, a clawfoot bath and a separate seating/office area. Plus a 4 poster bed made it even better. Very comfortable and a lovely stroll up to the Castle for Dinner. Packed up in the morning then drove up for breakfast. Loved the fact that the Irish Wolfhound (pictured) was immortalised in the stained glass in the Dining Room.
Couldn't fault the facilities at all, but not close to the Town Centre, as you would expect for an Estate like this.
