The hotel has such a great location with restaurants and entertainment so close. The staff were very friendly at reception when we checked in. Our room was neat and clean and the staff arranged for 2 beds as requested as i was staying with a friend.

Unfortunately due to the high winds the building awning on the top floor at the back of the building came loose at about 22h00 and it was banging the whole night. So although the bed was comfy i didnt get a good nights rest. I did get the gentleman on duty to come have a look at the problem from our sliding door at about 23h00 as the banging was unpleasant. It would have been nice if he offered us another room (if one was available) to ensure we got a good nights rest. The banging got worse through the night as the wind didnt subside. I also told the lady on duty in the morning about it. I hope that it has now been repair.

The staff were amazing, very helpful and friendly. The hotel is close to a number of lovely restaurants and shops and central to tourist attractions. The room was spacious with a small kitchenette. This ideal for business or leisure travel.

I asked for Room 101 which was apparently booked long term by someone who smoked in their room. The staff were aware of this but did nothing about it. The person also played music loudly. Long term or not, they should consider everyone staying around them, and respect rules.

They gave me a room at the front of the hotel, on the street with noise coming up from the restaurants and their patrons. They did move me to room 102 after I told them I was not prepared to stay in a room permeating base noises from the music. Although the room is lovely, I would not want to ever be put there again.

The room was very big and nice and even had a kitchenette. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had shower and bath. The wifi worked well. One can have free coffee (espresso machine) in the reception area. Breakfast works with vouchers and you choose the place to have breakfast, worked fine and the place just next to the hotel was very good. The location is very good, in a nice area with plenty of restaurants, and within walking distance to downtown centre.

the only issue was that sometimes people were talking in the corridor going to reception, and late in the evening. Hotel should ask people to avoid talking loud because it’s a nuisance. Probably isolation was not great.

Everything was REALLY perfect. But the standout feature was - and I really never say this - the staff! We met quite a few and ALL of them were astonishingly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to be nice. It makes SO MUCH difference to a happy stay. Contrasting, we paid 3 times more to stay at Parker Cottage before this, and the Hippo staff really need to give them some training! 100% 5 Stars.

the room met all my expectations, i wished i can extend my stay, location was close to many places we visited; i liked the breakfast at therapy the most, at egg head they insist on the 10% tip meanwhile their food was not excellent

to use the stairs when coming from the front door, the milk for tea was very limited;

Hippo is the best value for money hotel in Cape Town. It is based in the best street in Cape Town. The studio like room is spacious, luminous, and functional with a perfectly equipped kitchen. The stay was as usual perfect for my need on this business trip. felt at home with all the convenience of an hotel.

The refurbishment is underway and shall improve the overall experience.

Great location. We booked last minute and received a room upgrade. Comfortable suite. We didn't book a breakfast option but beautiful restaurants available in the area. A great stay.

Walk up stairs, no elevator but it is just a single flight of stairs. Wasn't an issue for us but for large luggage might be a small discomfort

Location is brilliant. It is close to everything! There are lots of places to eat and to shop for food close by

There was major construction being done on the building across the road. So it was quite noisy, but that is not the hotel's fault I guess. Another downside is that they don't have a generator so loadshedding is a bit of a pain.

Beautiful hotel! Great value for money and stunning rooms which are very well equipped. Great location just off the vibrant Kloof Street and the entire process was smooth sailing. So glad I stumbled upon this gem.

Only thing that could be improved is the soundproofing of the rooms. The smallest sounds can easily be heard from other rooms, in addition to the restaurant vibes from below.
