The breakfast was very good . Wide selection of foods. It would be great if vegans or plant based guests could have non diary milk, frozen blue berries etc. Frozen vegetables were available but they were overcooked. Given the security status in Johannesburg it was great to have the shuttle bus from the hotel to Sandton shopping centre. I saw families with young children. I just wonder how did they manage to provide clean clothes on a daily basis? A laundry room with dryers would be very helpful. Washing powder and coins to operate the machines can be provided at the reception desk. Just a thought.

I have stayed in various places operated by Marriot. I have a membership card for which I get bonus points each time I stay at a Marriot hotel. I was informed that because I had booked my stay with booking.com I do not qualify for any points.

Our stay was far too quick to take proper advantage of the location and amenities of this excellent Marriott property. Right from check-in we were warmly welcomed and because we had to fly out early the next morning received a bagged breakfast in lieu of breakfast in the dining room, which was a very helpful suggestion! Room was lovely, overlooking the pool. We took advantage of the shuttle to the mall to go shopping and out to dinner at Mandela Square and were easily picked up at the same spot for the return trip to the hotel. Clearly they are a well oiled machine in taking good care of their guests!

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Brigitte at the reception for her exceptional kindness and for accommodating my request to keep my room until 1 PM. This allowed me to conduct an important meeting in a calm and comfortable environment. Remarkably, Brigitte also handled my check-out with the same level of kindness and professionalism. I often emphasize the significance of the first 30 seconds when going on stage for a presentation, but I firmly believe that the last 5 minutes spent with hotel personnel are just as crucial. 😊

Very nice, spacious and clean room, the bed was very big and comfy! The breakfast is delicious, loats of options to choose from and very nice omelette made to order. The staff were extremelly helpful and nice to us, literally everyone we interacted with. We had a nice chat with the gentleman that took our coffee order on the second morning about us leaving to go to Kruger Park and he wrote a message on my coffee, I think that was super cute of him. The gentleman that works on the bar inside the hotel (not The Lord's Bar, the one with the pool table) was also extraordinary, we got talking to him about rugby as the World Cup started that day and he is the sweetest guy. Overall, great experience!

Well appointed rooms, attention to detail, food, very clean and beautiful grounds. Felt a bit special. The hotel has a classy feel. One of few hotels to have two bedroom suites esp with twin beds, and very, reasonable cost, in central Sandton. You can walk around the area if you wish or take a shuttle and it has a great bar, pool table etc. There is nightlife nearby, also. Lovely breakfast and outside area to enjoy. Parking attached and a Pick n pay supermarket available via the lift for your favourite foods and snacks to take home! We slept well. Twin beds were spacious. Couch comfortable.

Our booking was for twin beds in second room for our teens, and initially they gave us one with a double without asking was this ok, so we had to wait to sort it out, which was annoying at 10:30pm. The twin we got was on the gardens of the grounds which was nice, but the actual room wasn't as nice, or as quiet. The main bedroom was more bouncy than the Marriott beds in the UK, which surprised us. The booking.com booking should have meant a seamless checkin but the staff then hassled us to pay by card on changing over rooms which we weren't impressed with as it was 11pm.

The hotel had a great old world feel about it whilst being equipped to modern standards inside. So often hotels are cookie cutters and you lose the feeling of where you are - the Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton was true to its self and it's city. The staff were fabulous in every team and made us feel very welcome and looked after us like we were family! Food and drinks and chilled evenings in the hotel were all great!

Wifi coverage needs to be looked at - on occasion I needed to do some work calls and the internet service was a bit sketchy. Perhaps it was the network I was connected to, but it was the same for my partner

The room was very comfortable after a long, long flight and the breakfast from room service was stupendous. We ordered the combination English and Continental breakfast and shared it between three people and it was still too much! When we returned from our road trip around the country, we stayed here again and loved the convenience of the location and the half-hourly shuttle to Sandton City!

Honestly, we loved everything. The gardens are so pretty - perhaps a few loungers in the garden would be nice. I would have loved to sit there and read a book or doze in the sun.

We love this hotel and it's our Sandton go to! The staff are efficient and attentive, the rooms are spacious and clean and it's located in a lovely area with a beautiful courtyard with a lush garden and pool

The walls are a little thin so you can hear people in the corridors, especially early morning Parking requires a new ticket everyday which you pay for which is a bit of a mission and should just be one card for your entire stay

We first came for two days at the start of our travels and were so impressed with the hotel that we decided to fly back from Durban just to spend a few days here before we left. The staff are all extremely kind and courteous and do everything to make sure you are comfortable. The bellhop named Welcome remembered us and greeted us with a big smile. The lady at the front desk changed our room to a room she felt had a better view and was nicer. The staff at the on-site bar are also extremely friendly and made us feel very comfortable!

I didn't have enough days here! - otherwise, no complaints.
