This home-away-from-home was perfect. Breakfast was excellent, including fresh baked breads, eggs and bacon, etc. And the friendliness of the owners made me feel right at home. They also provided great recommendations about restaurants and attractions in the area (go to Italian restaurant within walking distance. Yumm!!). Their amazing and super sweet dog was just icing on the cake. I'm a huge animal lover. The entire place was decorated in beautiful antiques. It was so cozy and comfortable. I wish I could have stayed longer.

What's not to LOVE?!!!

Daniël and Olga greeted us heartily as a warm welcome to Oakdene Guest House. They introduced the facilities and also the possibilities of Oudtshoorn and surroundings. We loved the old fashioned rooms with all the necessities a modern traveller needs. The bathroom was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The extra lights for load shedding were explained. We really enjoyed Oakdene Guest House as a quiet place to stay in the middle of Oudthoorn. On walking distance to the restaurants and shops. On Daniël's advice we've visited Buffels Drift on our second night; a real treasure. We certainly have to come back to enjoy more of Oudtshoorn and the Karoo.

We stayed at Oakdene in April '24. The hosts at here were fabulous! Not only did they provide a comfortable place to stay with wonderful facilities but their recommendations for eating out and sightseeing were excellent. We found places we would never have found - like the wagyu beef farm! They even provided me with gluten free bread at breakfast when I had forgotten to mention my intolerance before arrival. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Everything was perfect from the quirky historical feel decor to the delicious breakfast!

Excellent brief to our room, area & help with advice on what to see & where to eat with bookings made for dinner on our behalf. All good recommendations. Our hosts Daniel & Sonja exceeded our expectations as hosts as were so willing to enhance our holiday. We learned so much from them about the area. The breakfast & home made cooking of breads & jams, brownies etc were very much appreciated & all were really delicious. We appreciated the extra time that this takes rather than just buying. Having stayed in SA in guest houses over a period of 30 years , this one really stands out through its great location & superb hospitality. We left there after only 2nts but felt like friends with the hosts. We would definitely recommend & return!

All was really lovely.

We stayed there for one night. The house to be authentic and charming and I enjoyed the vintage furniture. Overall our stay was comfortable, with the room offering everything we needed, including drinkable tap water There is a well-kept swimming pool, which is wonderful for hot days. The location is good, just a 5-minute walk to a few restaurants, and the neighborhood is pretty quiet at night. The owners, Daniel and Sonja, were exceptionally welcoming, offering valuable tips about the area. They also prepared a great breakfast with a demonstration of how to open an ostrich egg.

The location, in what felt like a very safe area in the town. with many restaurants all within walking distance and secure parking and a lovely rustic garden with a pool. The hosts just made it even more special. Sonja with her cool trousers & fabulous breakfasts (but Daniel helped too!) Daniel “the guide” helping not just us, but all guests to make the very most from Oudtshoorn area based on each group’s needs. We would’ve missed so much without his enthusiasm & guidance. Thank you

Having to leave! I already want to go back.

We had a lovely welcome from Daniel and Sonja , the Oakdene is in a great location for the local attractions and there is a great selection of restaurants nearby that you can walk to and the setting is wonderful with plenty of history The Terrace is a great spot for having a relaxing drink and breakfast and we welcomed being able to use the pool to cool down in the heat The room was ideal for the two of us and the bed was very comfortable

Old word charm at its best. A beautiful property in a great location for accessing the facilities locally in town and the vast countryside and beautiful surroundings. We really appreciated Sonja and Daniels wonderful warm hospitality and their advice on exploring the local areas was perfect. Their oasis like garden is the perfect to relax. And special mention to Sonja’s home made plum jam which topped off our lovely breakfasts! This really is a home from home in the most amazing centuries old house.

An old charming building with many original features…so expect it creak & moan a little as you & other guests move about. The rooms are very large, in keeping with the era but full of modern facilities. The bed was large & very comfortable. There is secure, ample parking at the rear. The pool looked inviting but we didn’t have time to enjoy!” Excellent location within easy walking distance to restaurants & a great base to explore the surrounding area. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast (R10 pp) we had lashings of hot tea, OJ, eggs, bacon, tomato & mushrooms, with delicious homemade bread. (There’s lots of other options but one can only eat so much) All prepared & presented perfectly…& as we were able to sit outside to take it we could also enjoy the view of the garden. The real stars of the show though are Sonja & Daniel, who go above & beyond with help & advice…& one comes away feeling like you’ve made friends! Wishing you great success in all you do!

A big problem in SA is load shedding & one we’ve found is not freely explained beforehand. And something we feel all properties need to address by way of a “back up” system when charging people to stay…. Whilst we totally appreciate its not the properties fault, it does cause inconveniences, especially if it’s summer & regular during ones stay. Thankfully, we were able to cool the room somewhat before sleeping otherwise it would’ve been uncomfortable. They do provide daily updates on timings which we found helpful & also a lantern for evenings.
