The Espana is a venerable old place next to the opera house. One can feel a lot of history on its ground floor which has been left “old style.” The renovations up stairs seem to be working for the moment but one wonders how long they will hold up. There are various ways to eat here. The Michelin rated high end place with the tasting menu and paired wines is at the culinary summit. Staff people first rate.

It seemed far away from major attractions, making for ordeals of transportation. It would be perfect for the opera but the season hadn’t started yet.Barcelona is so sprawling that there could be no single hotel that made a visitor feel close to everything. Once we learned how to use the Metro the Liceu stop of the L3 became a great point from which to set off.

The hotel has an old world charm that I love. I was taking my family to Europe for the first time. I didn't want my grandchildren to experience a hotel that looked like any modern hotel in the US. This hotel was perfect, and I loved the location.

My family of seven were to embark on a 7 day cruise on July 24. Unfortunately, my luggage never arrived from the US. I had arranged for a private 5 hour tour that morning with a ship boarding at 3:00. The staff at the hotel kindly arranged to keep our bags while we toured and later call taxis to take us to the port. I was quite distracted since I had no luggage and had to leave the tour and return to the airport. Many days later, I noted that I had been charged correctly for 7 breakfasts, however, the total for the 3 rooms was about 10 percent higher than Booking.Com quoted. $701 was the estimated price including taxes. I was charged $779.

the location is really great and the hotel looks really nice. the staff at the reception and concierge were very friendly and super helpful. the own restaurant and rooftop bar are super cozy and nice with some great creations.

The outdoor pool looks nice but a bit too small to enjoy a real pool feeling. the first room we got was not properly cleaned as there was hair and broken Glas on the floor. but got another room (No 217) which was much better. the breakfast area was always understaffed and some orders were not taken or were forgotten. they should work on

Staff were amazing. Couldn't do enough for us. Hotel gorgeous and fantastic location. Would definitely stay here again.

A number of times our key card didnt work but the staff always apologised and tried to resolve the issue.

Arranged taxi to and from the airport. Fast easy check in and very friendly front desk. Excellent location to shops, places of interest, restaurants and bars. Clean smart bedroom with clean bathroom

Coffee and tea at breakfast not the best. Keycard didn’t work at one point so had to go back down to reception. Mini bar was poor. Hot drinks in room poor. Bathroom toiletries non existent. Wi-Fi kept cutting out

Attractive interior in a historic building, ideally situated for exploring the city.

Rooms are on the small size, because of the nature of the building. Pool is very small and opens only at 11 am. Staff at reception could be better informed about Barcelona attractions (asked about visiting La Pedrera and they said we can just go and get tickets there easily, whereas in fact one has to pre-book on-line.)

Our stay at Hotel Espana was great!! The absolute best part was the staff. Jordi at the front desk was wonderful and so friendly. The staff at breakfast and the rooftop bar were also wonderful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was nicely updated. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Location was perfect for getting around. Also, the building itself is historic and beautiful!!! Do yourself a favor and learn about the history of the hotel and explore it as much as possible while you are there.

Great hotel with superb location. Really friendly staff. Tasty breakfast. Spacious room. The hotel looks exquisite with access to rooms from an open balkonies with mosaic flooring and hanging lights. Real Barcelona vibe.

Room was too dark. We had a room facing realy small lightshaft in the middle of the building and there was literally no natural light.

it was in a quiet place off the main avenue. It had an old world charm to it.

There were several homeless people on the avenue where the hotel was and it made it feel unsafe and not so clean. The bathroom smelled like urine although it looked cleaned. Our room was very tight for three adults. Booking.com could have offered better sized rooms. We saw another room next to us which was more spacious.
