Well located in the heart of the city, close to La Rambla, the Metro station of Liceu (and the Opera House), and a great place to stay for those who want to get out and about around the city. The hotel is beautifully laid out, with rooms overlooking a communal area below, well-lit via a skylight during the daytime. The en-suite room we had was equipped with an air-conditioning unit, which was easy to use. The rooms are secure enough, using electronic keys. The communal areas are pleasant, with tables and chairs for you to use, and plenty of other seating.

There was not much I did not like; you can tell the hotel is old (the architecture is a wonderful, Art Nouveau style), and there are perhaps one or two repairs or modernisations required, but it had character, and was a wonderful place to stay. Conversations from the communal area carries into the rooms, but this was not really a problem. The hotel exceeded our expectations, we would stay again; however, if you are expecting anything more luxurious than a place to meet, sleep, clean, and take a light breakfast, then this is not for you.

Staff were friendly + helpful. Vintage character of hotel. Location was ideal. Wi-Fi worked well for me … in my room on both the 3rd and 4th floor. Breakfast was ok … better than some reviews suggested.

Room was v. Spartan … Noise was a problem with some younger guests coming in late (5am) and arguing, - bedroom hopping, knocking on doors - sounds echo here like in an old institution …. you can hear every conversation either side … ear plugs to sleep are essential here. Luckily Staff helpfully managed to relocate me 403 => 303 on another floor which was much quieter. Hotel is very well cleaned by excellent staff + bedding was good and clean … and mattresses were firmish but comfortable … Bathroom odour was bad in 403 … no sink plug … which was a problem as I wet shave. Not quite as bad in 303. I know Barcelona drains are notorious for this. Regular chemical disinfectant down plug and drain holes would easily fix this problem.

The breakfast buffet was pretty good and had decent options to choose from jam, cereal, different coffees, etc. The staff was very kind and nice and they gave us the option to hold our luggage at check out while we waited for our departure in the afternoon

All good maybe the beds a little bit rough but for the price can’t ask for much

Location is great, few minutes from Boqueria market. Our room was of a good size, the beds are comfortable and the room had a heater/cooler airco that worked perfectly. Breakfast was good: cornflakes, plain yogurt, simple cold cuts and cheese, jam and chocolate spread, two types of bread, juices, coffee and tea. Good value for money.

Very small window to the back, no natural light in the room. Very small bathroom, we are two slim persons but showering was a challenge. Our room was at the end of the corridor, next to the floor’s public toilet (1st floor has a large patio, this is for the ppl who sit around there).

Location was really good, just off the ramblas. I'd read some poor reviews for this hotel and figured it was a 'marmite' hotel.. People either love or hate.. Hotels in barca are always on the expensive side in my experience but I found for a similar price we've paid on other barca hotels we had a much more pleasant experience. Yes the hotel is basic but our room was spotless.. Yes its a little bit quirky but I personally really liked that. There's nothing luxorious or modern about this hotel-if you want that book a diff one(I'd suggest wander by Pillow also just off the ramblas for a newer feel). I can't speak for all the rooms but ours, 106, was spot on and exceeded my expectations. The breakfast again was basic but adequate and again most hotels for same price or more you don't get a breakfast.

Central location, rooms cleaned every day, beautifull hotel that still has that old monk cell feeling. Modest, yet has everything you need:a bed, table, place to hang your clothes, hairdryer can be asked for at the reception. Very helpfull and friendly staff. Our room was in the attic and not facing the street-our window was facing an oposite side, so it was super calm, there was no sound from the outside. It really had an old, cosy, unfiltered spanish vibe, which we really enjoyed. Tip: read about hotels history on their website and do not expect a Radison vibe in one of the oldest parts of town, do not expect anything very fancy for the price you pay. But if you need a place where you can reach everything by foot, sleep in a comfortable bed, where you are welcomed with smiles and have a free breakfast every morning-go for it. If we come back to Barcelona-we'll book our stay here again.

There could have been a tv, but honestly, we did not come to Barcelona to watch tv, after enjoying the city we were dead tired and just went straight to bed.

Reasonably cheap hotel next to La Rambla. The location itself is a bit dodgy, but the hotel looks nice and has somewhat unique style. It's a cheap hotel, so do not expect any miracles. The room is equipped with a bed, some night tables, and a wardrobe. They provide towels and a miniature bar of soap. Breakfast was decent. I was looking for a place to stay for one night and this perfectly suited our needs.

The AC in the room did not work, but we were provided with an electrical fan instead.

Great location! interesting, authentic hotel space - ex. monastery renovated in authentic way. Nice communal space. Okay breakfast - no veggies but good basic choices for those who can eat everything. :) Nice friendly staff, room cleaning and basic facilities.

hotel Peninsular, like the whole city of Barcelona is full of contrasts, so - know that! at first we got two single rooms without windows, without ventilation and one of them even had a big mold on the wall to which we said strict no! The reception had no problem changing both of the rooms into a good double room and a newly refurbished single room with a bath, both with windows to outside. So, there is definitely a chance of luck in getting the good room here, however, if there are options and its not too busy, they will change rooms. Definitely a place for those unafraid of uncertainty. :)

Reading other peoples' opinions I was skeptical and expecting the worst. However, the hotel really met our expectations. Considering the price (the lowest in the area) and the location (like 1 min. from Ramblas) it's really worth it. Of course, this is a 1-star hotel so don't expect luxury, but the room we had (in the attic) was clean, had AC and it didn't smell badly, as some previous opinions describe. The building itself is old but renovated, which overall comes to a very beautiful and climatic Barcelona experience. Also, the breakfast is included. Sure, sadly there wasn't any vegetables. But for this price it was enough to grab something to keep you full, drink good coffee from the machine and go explore the city.

There wasn't any minuses. People who describe the hotel as awful, in my opinion they have unrealistic expectations.

A very pretty hotel just off La Ramblas, basic but clean and functional. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atrium was so pretty. Rooms were high ceilings and cool ours overlooked the courtyard

The bathroom was exceptionally tiny, as in tiny tiny. I’m plus sized and showering was not fun. Literally the only way was to flood the bathroom as you need to be a size 8 to get in the shower cubicle , they would be better off removing the cubicle and creating a wet room.
