Incredible 5 star Hotel at 3 star prices. Beds are super comfy, staff are so helpful, and food was delicious.

The bag pipe player who plays so close to the hotel, plays non stop all day long. Not the hotels fault though but its headwrecking

The Parador is in the centre of this amazing city right by the cathedral. The location couldn't be bettered. The building is magnificent in itself and is beautifully furnished with antique furniture and paintings. The whole effect is stunning and worth the expense just to enjoy the experience. It was fun sleeping in a four poster bed for the first time in my life and waking to a wonderful view of the valley from room 334. The beds were comfortable (although a little hard for my taste), the bathroom inviting and the breakfast perfect. Having parking facilities nearby was a great boon too. The experience couldn't have been better.

Not easy on arrival to know where to drive to. A notice would be handy. Silly as it sounds, the sound of bagpipes from a nearby street. It was fine and atmospheric for a while, but it never stopped and in the end began to grate on the nerves.

This was a splurge as it is an exceptional location and historic building, so it is pricey, but worth it. Our room was beautiful, full of antiques, but included modern amenities too. Large marble tile bathroom. Beautiful view. Is in a 1520 monastery/pilgrim hospital, so there were amazing courtyards, fountains, chapels, stained glass, gargoyles, so fun to wander through and explore all the little corners and colonnades. Outdoor cafe on terrace offered wonderful tapas and cocktails in a lovely setting. Get there early as it fills up. The onsite restaurants looked very beautiful in lovely rooms, although we didn't eat there. The breakfast was fantastic, huge buffet to choose from, and also breakfast menu to order from in lovely room with views of the Santiago de Compostela square and cathedral. The staff and concierge service is what you would expect in a high end hotel, excellent. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, and were persistent in finding us a private tour guide even though this was a last minute request that we hadn't planned on in advance.

By far the very best hotel I have stayed in in the last 33 days and I have quite literally been in 30 hotels over the last 33 days having just completed the Camino Frances. Our Journey started in Paris, Chartres, Normandy, Lourdes, then all the hotels in Spain. They had the best quality rooms, environment and staff. The price was great considering I had to pay more in Paris for yucky small rooms. This hotel lands you right in the square where as you walk out you see the Cathedral! It is simply breathtaking, convenient and so nice! Oh and we ate and drank everything in the minibar and it was super reasonable. I think it was like 12 Euros. Super happy here. Wish I had planned for a few days.

N/A this place met all my expectations and then some.

Hotel is in a superb locatrion right next to the Cathedral and on the main square. Arriving by car you have to drive through a pedestrian area, slightly worrying with the signs and people everywhere. When stopped outside on the main sqaure we were met immediately by the bellman who took our luggage and another chap that drove away our car and parked it in the hotel garage. Room was quiet looking out onto a back street, there are probably rooms with much better views. Restaurant was in a large brick vaulted ceiling, very atmospheric and noisy, full of American parties on tour. Meal was excellent and great service. Overall superb and would stay again.

The restaurant was absolutely full on our visit and very noisy with loud voices, a great tourist location after all.

I loved the fact that it was part of history-so evident all around us. Explained so well. I loved that, even though the hotel was so old, every modern comfort was added so seemlessly. I love comfort and lovely experiences - the sheets on the bed were very good quality - I had a wonderful night's sleep. The breakfast was superb - only little negative - the orange juice was not freshly squeezed - I would expect that from a 5 star hotel - especially in Spain! I LOVED the pot of hot chocolate with a pot of hot milk! The food in the bar/cafe was also really good. Lady cleaning our room was so lovely - so obliging. I absolutely loved the luxury of being able to walk into a beautiful, luxurious, warm hotel, having been out in the cold and rain (our stay was in early April - I just happened to hit the few rainy days!). The central location was brilliant - though most locations in the old town are very central.

Nothing (as mentioned above, I would expect freshly squeezed orange juice, but this wasn't a real issue - I had plenty of alternative drinks from which to choose).

Most Paradores are great, but are normally away from central cities. This is one of the few Exceptions as the one in Leon and the one in Alcalá de Henares. Great breakfast, great room, specially the bathrooms. Great facilities. Unbeatable location. Breakfast was fantastic.

The beds could improve, and also they need an extra set of pillows. Except a few units that face the main plaza and the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, the rooms have limited or no views and the windows are sandblasted because of this. The soundproofing was not the best, I had some annoying noise from a neighboring rooms that kept me awake. And even though I called the reception it wasn't fixed. The checkout process was slow as the delivery of our baggages to leave. The access should be explained better because we had a hard time getting our car to the door, even though it can, we thought it wasn't possible due to blockages in the access road.

We had a fantastic stay at this awesome hotel. I was concerned about the neg reviews but it was not our experience. From friendly check in staff to help from porters to feeling luxurious all the way to the room. The room was appointed very well. Location is the best in town. I want to thank everyone working there for providing us with a great experience. Will stay there again if ever in Santiago.

Breakfast was a little funky. I get the timed reservation but when you get seated, make your first trip to the buffet and then order hot food (omelette, eggs to order) it takes forever because you are now in line with everyone else. Our order came out very late and kind of put a damper on the event.

This is our fourth time staying at this parador since we walked the camino to Santiago. The breakfast is wonderful, as usual. The staff and service are very good.

It’s unfortunate but our toilet stopped flushing overnight the time we were checking out the following day. We, of course, did not want to leave a mess so my husband used the garbage can as a pail for water to flush the toilet. Not a pleasant experience. The front desk clerk looked shocked when I told her. This is an old hotel but it is five stars and nothing we would have expected. A disappointment to be sure.

public areas were relaxing. drinks were very reasonably priced. Staff were courteous.

leaving bedroom key at the desk can mean waiting 20 minutes to retrieve it if there are others checking in. MUCH better not to have a key box !! I could have taken a bottle of water from the restaurant after breakfast which i did not do. I was surprised and disappointed therefore to find one bottle of water charged for . Most hotels leave a bottle of water complimentary and many also leave kettle and coffee or tea. The mini bar should be stocked and paid for. Meanness is not the name of the game.
