I recently stayed at Cottage SAN Francesco in Nuwara Eliya and had a delightful experience overall. The location is fantastic, offering serene and picturesque surroundings. However, it can be a bit challenging to reach the cottage when it gets foggy, especially at night. It's advisable to check the weather conditions before booking to make the most of the stunning views from the rooms.The rooms themselves are cozy and offer breathtaking views when the weather is clear. However, they are not soundproof, and on windy nights, you can hear a lot of wind noise, which might be a slight inconvenience.The breakfast served was excellent, with a variety of delicious options to start the day. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, adding to the pleasant experience.Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cottage SAN Francesco and would recommend it for a tranquil getaway in Nuwara Eliya.

Rooms are not sound proof

This place is a gem 💎!!! Happy and satisfied is the least i can say about this fancy place! If you love cleanliness ( which sadly not as common in Sri Lanka in hotels ) and like to enjoy a place free of germs, spots, mold or any dirty bathrooms, then this is the place! I honestly found it cleaner than some 5 starts hotels in Colombo so not sure why it is rated 3 stars only. The actual rooms look more beautiful than the images showing. Everything is wood and stone. Fancy romantic lightings, super duper comfortable beds! ( omg better than what i have at home 🤪) Coming to the hotel was a bit of a challenge because the city doesn't take care of any sub roads sadly. Yet the road to this location is not bad at all compared to many other sub roads! My car had low bumper yet didn't have difficulty dealing with the road. However, my car stopped 500 meters before the hotel and would not move forward on a medium steep hill . . Had to ask my 3 family members to come down for me to continue and the then the owner was super kind, upon knowing, to rush down with his car and get my family up to the hotel. Then had issues with booking where i mistakenly booked 1 guest instead of 2 for each room ( was weird on booking.com). owner was more than courteous to honor the mistake making an exception and giving me the rooms for the same booking price! Our deluxe room had its own sink and water kettle. Also rooms have fast heaters if you get cold ( like my wife). The staff helped us with the luggage and welcomed us with tea. The view from this place is just magical! Tea estates, veges feilds, fog, hills, big trees and mountains. Also, you can see very closely the highest point in Sri Lanka. I am definitely coming back next year

Not finding this place earlier

The accommodation is beautiful. It has a lot of charm with the stones and the wood. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic. It was 14 degrees outside an it did have a radiator, which we were happy to use. The bed was very comfortable and the accommodation was clean. There was a multi-plug socket in the room where several plugs fit so we didn't need an adapter.

It is a little out of the way and therefore not easy to find. The dinner was very good but a bit expensive. There was no air conditioning, and we didn't need it at 14 degrees.

The guest house is so well built and so cosy in the cool weather. Everything was very high quality. The room was big and beautiful. The bed was big and comfortable. We requested the Sri Lankan breakfast (we love Sri Lankan food) and it was outstanding. When the sky cleared the view was stunning. Incredibly friendly and attentive staff.

The guest house is up very high which means if there is rainy weather then you will likely be in a cloud with no view. The place is a 10 minute drive in to town.

Everything about this place was a 10 for me and my partner. The host and everyone that works there are so Accommodating. Your room is cleaned daily. The breakfast is amazing! Bed was the comfiest we had stayed in during our 2 weeks in sri lanka. The host is really honest about what to look out for in Sri Lanka. He organized me and my partner a really fun day checking out Nuwara Eliya. The scenery where the house is amazing. You're surrounded by a beautiful landscape of tea plantations and local farms growing vegetables and other plants. Something other travelers may not like but we loved is the location. You are a 15 minute tuk tuk to any shops.. I think this is a trade off for how beautiful the location is though. However a tuk tuk was never a issue.

Absolutely loved this place. We got super lucky and got one of the rooms on the top floor with the views out the back. It has a bit of a log cabin vibe and seem relatively new or recently renovated. Not much in the way of decoration outside the rooms but the room itself was incredible. The views were amazing out the back over looking the valley. The staff were super nice and even warned us there was a big group coming the next night and offered to swap our room if we were worried about the noise. One of my favourite stays actually. If you have a vehicle just be aware its a pretty steep winding road up so tuk tuk was no problem but a car would be more difficult. If you are taking a car Id suggest parking it once and using tuk tuks to get into and out of town. If you are driving your own tuk tuk its no issue to come and go.

We really enjoyed our stay at Cottage San Francesco. The owner is very friendly with great communication and super helpful for booking train tickets. The location is lovely, with spectacular views and a quick and easy tuk tuk ride into the center of town. They organized a driver for us for the day (shout out to Nishanta) who had heaps of great local tips and secrets! The beds are very comfortable and the spa bath was a real treat!

They serve a huge western breakfast, but unfortunately it didn’t really hit the mark for us, and it would have been nice to have a Sri Lankan breakfast option.

The Cottage San Francesco is simply indescribably great. A paradise has been created here on a mountain. You can enjoy a fantastic view. Everything is very professional and organized. Despite arriving late, we were treated to a delicious dinner. And the breakfast was prepared with a lot of love and dedication and was extremely tasty. The rooms and the whole house are very clean. A lot of wood was used, which gives it a special charm. If we hadn't booked our train to Ella, we would definitely have stayed longer. Thank you very much for everything!

The hotel was clean, well organized and comfortable. The weather was cold and the room had heater which was very nice. The staff were friendly and polite, and really devoted to help us with every need. The breakfast was good and when we left early for a hike they packed it for us. The room have incredible view on the valley, and the location was very quiet.

The location is a bit far from the city, so every time we wanted to go there we had to take a 15 min Tuktuk.

Asitha and his Family are very friendly, we had an amazing stay. The room was very clean & comfy, the beds were perfect and the bedding was warm enough as it can get quite cold in nuwara Eliya. breakfast was a great assortment of fresh fruits, french toast, sandwiches, eggs & sausages and it was very delicious. For us it was the perfect stay and we can totally recommend it. as already mentioned the cottage is outside nuwara eliya up the Hill. it’s a 10 Minute tuktuk drive to town, which can easily arrangened by Asitha. it is steep yes, but it was no problem for cars or any tuktuks we took. so don’t worry about that. as it’s just up the Hill from nuwara Eliya you can easily instruct the drivers if you just show it on google maps (in case they shouldnt know were the cottage exactly is)
