Very good budget accommodation, the pool was amazing to cool off in during and after the very hot days! Rooms & bathrooms are very clean. Lots of nice spots to relax around the pool & garden, we loved the hammocks. There are many cool creatures around the resort including squirrels, peacocks, eagles & butterflies. Breakfast buffet was great and filling, with many options. We also ate at the resort every night & recommend the vegetable curry! You can also meet other guests at meal times. Owners & staff were very helpful, especially Thanu & his mother who went out of their way to help me with keeping my medication cold in their fridge & while travelling (thank you so much!!) If any insects in your room, the staff can also help you to get it out if it bothers you (I am scared of geckos so the staff helped to remove one for me). Staff also helped us with local transport & recommended good local restaurants. Ask them if you need to arrange any transport or tours :)

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, very well managed by the owner’s family and especially the son who is the loveliest host. The garden and the swimming pool are breathtaking - lush and full of flowers and trees. The swimming pool is clean and big. We had a little terrace in front of our room where they brought us lunch after our check in. We enjoyed a nice cold beer next to the pool at night before dinner. Food as well was very good and staff very kind. Room was as described - very comfortable with good AC and mosquito net. Deckchairs were very comfortable as well. The manager also gave us excellent advice on the safari we did from there and organized it for us for a very reasonable price. I would recommend it again and again and again ! If in Polonnaruwa you should book your stay there.

Everything is fantastic. The bed is cozy, AC strong. The garden, swimming pool and other facilities are superb. The staff members are extremely friendly, polite, they helped me with everything. I absolutely enjoyed my stay after I asked for AC (I made a mistake and booked a no-AC room first). You can rent a motorbike at the property to visit the ancient city. Great value for money.

Polonnaruwa is HOT, way hotter than other places in Sri Lanka, especially on windless days. For me, the fan didn't do the trick. The room was hot. Don't make my mistake and book an AC room if you are sensitive to the heat. Otherwise, you can always ask staff to turn on AC for little extra, like I did. Believe me, after visiting the ancient city, you need some cold place to unwind. With AC, all was well.

Our experience at Tishan ended up being great because of the staff, that was just amazing, very helpful and friendly, food (breakfast and dinner), which was very abundant and delicious for a very affordable price, and the nice area outside the hotel building.

Even though we knew that our room was not going to be the best before coming, it was still the worst part of our stay there: the bathroom was very old-style, which was not very comfortable (however it was very clean), bedroom size was small, bedsheets were quite uncomfortable. However, the good aspects of our stay prevailed and we enjoyed our time there.

We just spent one night, but agreed we could have stayed longer. The hotel was very calm and had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Everything was very clean and neat. The room we had next to the pool was very nice, and offered a nice little terace to relax on. We did not get a chance to jump in the pool, but it looked very good and the area arround it cozy with sunbeds and hammocks. The best about the place was definately the staff. Amazing service level and just so very, very nice people. If we are ever around in Polonnaruwa, we are returning here.

The breakfast was a mix of Asian & Western & it was tasty & huge! The brothers running the hotel with their parents are fab - always on hand, spoke good English & couldn't do enough for us. They arranged an elephant tour for us which was great and we hired them to take us to our next destination in their car. Our large family room was basic but clean and a great size with 4 single comfortable beds, air conditioning and our own bathroom. The pool was amazing - very clean, warm & relaxing with lots of sun loungers. The hotel is about a 10 minute tuk tuk ride from Polonnawaru but they can arrange a tuk tuk for you & it means a shorter transfer to the elephant national parks and to your next destination. They have a full dinner menu too - we ate with them one of our 2 nights and all enjoyed the food.

The hotel is well situated surrounded by rice paddies and is a peaceful location. The hotel has a beautiful tropical landscaped garden with magnificent pool area which is welcome at the end of a hot day traipsing around the ancient site. The hotel is a family run business where the young members are the front of house and do a great friendly job. Breakfast was large and a good start to the day of a mixture of Sri Lankan and western.

Our room was extremely clean and that seems to be rare in Sri Lanka. There was no humidity marks at all in our room. The outside pool area is just so beautiful. The pool is super clean, went for a great swim. The property is surrounded by rice fields and has plenty of wildlife.The rooms are a little out dated but thats ok since everything else is great and clean. Plenty of workers trimming plants and cleaning property. Breakfast buffet also was great. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

We had a lovely stay at Tishan thanks to the wonderful staff. Excellent location away from the busy road but still very close to the ancient city of Pollonawura. The absolute highlight is the (disco)pool, which our kids thoroughly enjoyed. Good breakfast, four-star hotel-like service and nice rooms. We would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone.

From the minute we arrived we were made welcome and helped with anything we needed. The family who own Tishan Holiday Resort embody Sri Lankan hospitality and service at its very best. The pool was very welcome amid the heat of Polonnaruwa and both breakfast and evening meal offered ample choice (though no doubt adapted to Western tastes). Remember to sign the lobby wall before you leave!
