This hotel is excellent, directly across the street from Lompen Senteret (a single building with multiple shops, a restaurant, a pharmacy, a cafe, hair & nail salons, public toilets, and a bar) and the huge grocery store (Svalbardbutikken) - so you are never without supplies of any kind that you may need. The included breakfast has a ton of variety (meats, eggs, cheeses, breads, cereals, waffles, yogurts, fruits, hot & cold beverages). There is a vestibule for putting on your outside shoes/boots and getting geared up to go out into the chilly Svalbard climate. The bus to and from the airport stops on the other side of the footbridge, super convenient. Lovely views out the windows. Helpful front desk staff (one super nice woman followed up with a local tour company who wasn't answering my emails and she got the answers I needed). My single room was small and simple, but clean - had hooks for bags, coat (no closet, one tiny shelf with kettle & tea bags & sugar). Bathroom has all you need, including a hair dryer and a wonderful shower with plenty of hot water and good water pressure (plus the earth-friendly option of NOT asking for clean towels every day). There's a flat-screen TV on the wall, which I only turned on once, for about 15 mins. - it works. This hotel was the perfect mid-range price for me, but still comfortable and nice. All the tour companies pick you up right outside the front door of the hotel. The Vault is rock-solid, I'd stay there again.

Please note that I was upgrated from Svalbard Hotell // The Vault to sisterhotel Svalbard Hotell // Polfareren so my description is based on “Polfareren”: The room was really spacious and clean. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. Nice breakfast with a lot of options. The Tourist Information is placed right across the road, where you can get information about different tours, maps etc. The location of the hotel was easily accessible from/to the airport with the shuttlebus. And it was easy to go for short walks around town within the polar bear safe area. Shops, restaurants, bars, museum etc. within walking distance of 5 -10 minutes.

The location is perfect if you'd like to be in the center, close to everything. Longyearbyen is a small town with a very small downtown. The hotel is right in the middle of it. The main grocery store is just on the opposite side of the road, 2 mins walking. Every activities offer transport to the hotel, airport bus also stops at the hotel. The room had a good heating, it wasn't cold inside. Windows have block out roll curtains. Room had a mini water heater and tea, mugs and glasses were very small though. The bathroom was nice. Breakfast was included in our reservation, it was really good (srcambled egg, beans, bread, pancackes, juices, yoghurt, etc.). The lobby offers hot water with tea. Prepare with inside shoes, there is a storage at the reception where you need to take off your outside shoes/boots. I think that was very efficient.
The room was very small, hardly move around to navigate. Price is considerably high, but that is true for everything in Svalbard. We weren't able to ask for late check out. The coffee is not good at all (brown water) or instant coffee powder. There was shower gel in the bathroom, although most hotels offer body lotion as well, here there wasn't any. I know it's not a big deal, but the weather was so cold and my skin hardened especially my hands, so I could have used some.

This hotel is modern, comfortable ,essential, cleaned, central position at 2 min walk to the supermarket, other facilities, good breakfast. It is very expensive as everything else in Longeyearbyen in Svalbard. Good sushi/ japanese restaurant available in the hotel.
My room was never cleaned in a week. The day i left i figure out u need to hang a notice outside the door to get it cleaned. No one explained.

First of all, this review is about the sister hotel, Svalbard Polfareren, as I was upgraded to this hotel at no charge, as the Vault was undergoing maintenance. The Polfareren Hotel was definitely upscale, super clean, with large, cozy, comfortable rooms, nice modern bathroom and appealing common areas, including a wonderful lobby lounge area with fireplace to relax, read, or enjoy a glass of wine. This location provides easy walking access throughout the delightful, small town feel of Longyearbyen, with restaurants, bars, shops and grocery market, all so close during the dark Polar Night strolls. As for the hotel breakfast, I travel a lot, and this breakfast spread was most enjoyable and offered the most complete selection of choices I have ever seen in my stays anywhere. Front desk staff was always available and helpful when needed. I would easily choose to stay at this hotel again.
Nothing really.

The closeness to the city centre and major supermarkets and shopping alley in the town. Take a taxi if you can, for me it was 30 NOK cheaper than taking an airport shuttle and if there are more than 2 people, a taxi would be the better option here as it is pretty close to the airport. We were upgraded to the Polfareren hotel, so no idea what the Vault looks like. But since they are sister hotels, I can say that the Vault looks much better with a better interior color palette than the Polfareren. The lounge is cozy with free tea, coffee and Gluhwein and they have books and games.
The room in Polfareren was definitely comfortable but the background and color combination was a bit on the cheaper side, it was my first time when a 4-star rated hotel did not let me check-out an hour later, the scrambled eggs on the buffet sucked. I will try the Radisson on my next stay but definitely not a bad stay.

Well organized with comfortable wool wrapped slippers, a good rack to store shoes, nice lobby with a separate luggage storage locker and clean toilets. The rooms are a little smaller but well designed with a good bathroom, comfortable bed, pillows and two nice windows with mountain views. Windows have dark shades that help people fall asleep in summer with mid-night sun. The included free breakfast (hot & cold) is very good with a variety of fruits, breads, salad, boiled eggs, pastries and muesli (I wish there was a cappuccino machine). The breakfast place also serves dinner (4pm onward) in the form of a Nuga Sushi & Noodles; We had chicken ramen soup there every evening during our stay.
Nothing.

Very clear signage on the building to find, airport shuttle bus stop is next to the illuminated wooden bridge taking the path over the utilities connections to the hotels car park. The major local shop and a very nice, good value restaurant are on the opposite side of the road, very convenient location. the room was a good size - it had some basic elements such as thin carpeting and more spartan facilities, but this was fairly priced compared with what luxury, much more expensive options offer in this location. The room and the hotel were very clean, easy to navigate, and quiet. Boot storage by the door, and slippers provided for guests to walk around on premises. The breakfast provided was a mixture of hot, cold, and continental offerings, a good selection and good quality - buffet style. This is provided in the hotels restaurant (which is a sushi/noodle bar, which we hadn't tried). Staff were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and had very good English. Room access is a code lock rather than a key so one less thing to worry about losing! Bed was very comfortable, and we were provided with the bed preference we asked for. Wifi was good, and also found 4G signal was full throughout (I don't have 5G capability personally, so I cannot speak for that). I would certainly opt for this location for if and when I return to longyearbyen.
The building is understandably very well insulated, and the rooms are lovely and warm - particularly noticeable and pleasant if you have been outside all day in winter. However, we would caution against having the radiator on at all overnight, maybe even cracking the window like we did, as on the top floor the heat actually woke us in the night (possibly from combined effects of our own radiator, and rising heat from other rooms below) - and it took a long time to cool off (again, insulated!). Lesson was learned for the second night, and we slept fine :)

Staff was excellent as they carried my luggage over the stairs to the main road when I left. How kind!!!
I took the flybus from the airport. It drops you off on the main street which is fine, but then you have to go up and down stairs to get to the hotel. I am 71 with two replaced shoulders. My luggage was too heavy to lift up the stairs and then down to the other side which had double the number of stairs. Fortunately a younger woman helped me. At the hotel itself there is a ramp. Having a ramp would definitely make me self-sufficient and I am sure others would appreciate it too.

I was so excited to visit Svalbard and I thought long and hard about where to stay. I'm so happy that I chose the Vault. It has the best location, the staff are lovely, and the room was super cosy and comfortable with a great bed and a gorgeous bathroom. I slept so well after long days out exploring. I appreciated the kettle and coffee in the room. The breakfasts were superb and always had a different choice of hot items each morning. Just across the road is the supermarket which I found really convenient. The Japanese restaurant downstairs is amazing and I took the food to my room to enjoy, because I was so tired. The Vault really made my stay in Svalbard just perfect. Thank you so much.
