Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast included (toast and jam). You can use the lockers in the common room before check-in and/or after checkout. They have this travel recommendation book for guest to sort out what to do and to eat while staying, very nice!

Space was a bit small in the dorms.

Clarissa the receptionist was very good , welcoming and considerate.Secondly, the available of hot coffee ,tea and chocolate drinks all round the clock can really help rescue desperate situations. The male colleagues who tidied up the kitchen after breakfast on 16/10/2024 was a very good man.He treats guests very well. The male worker who was at the Night Shift on 17/10/2024 breaking 18/10/2024 the day I left was also good but I wanted to add two more days but realised everytime I was almost complete my booking the price will push up higher. One high price for me and a cheaper price for others. Overall was good..Thank you for providing me a safe stay in your hostel.

My two days stay was very good,You provide hot drinks, coffee ,tea, chocolate drinks 24hrs which are very important for people who have difficulties obtaining breakfast or the first meal of the day. Clarissa and the two male colleagues thank you . Old town hostel Otter is good for a short stay.

Super-friendly staff. They allowed me to check in early and always offered plenty of helpful info on everything from attractions and food, to the transit system and other things to do in Switzerland. The dorm I was assigned exceeded my expectations for how spacious and bright it was. As with any hostel, some fixtures are dated, and some elements of the bedding (e.g., mattress cover, pillow, duvet) do not appear clean (e.g., stains, hair), BUT the linens that you are provided by the hostel to cover all of this with ARE clean (i.e., fitted sheet, pillowcase, duvet cover). This is very typical for a hostel. No complaints there. As for the surfaces themselves, the dorm and bathrooms were spotless, and when I first arrived, my room even — which had very freshly been deep-cleaned — smelled lightly of bleach. That's how clean this place is. Despite reviews about people supposedly getting bug bites here, I didn't get a single one, nor did any of the other guests I talked to, on any floor. There is one toilet + two showers per floor, and you may use the facilities on any floor. I didn't have to wait once to use the toilet or shower. There's also a sink in the dorm — very convenient. Not to mention — again — that the bathrooms were always clean as well. Truly, the cleaning staff here do a fantastic job. A unique convenience: an electrical outlet *inside your locker* so that you can charge your items securely while you sleep. Also, the lockers are HUGE. Mine was able to fit my backpack + a carry-on suitcase + boots and a winter coat.... with extra space left over. Awesome. Finally, the location is unbeatable. Right in the middle of the old town, 20 min. walking from the main station, and even closer to another train station and tram/bus hub and the lake. I am happy with my choice to have stayed here, and I'd consider staying here again. P.S.: there are free chocolates at reception!

I'm not complaining about this; I'm just reiterating it for guests who have never stayed in a hostel and might not understand what to expect; please see above regarding the bedding. It is *very typical* for hostels not to wash certain bedding items between each guest. Do not be shocked when you notice this; if you are staying at a hostel, adjust your expectations accordingly. Again, though, the linens provided were very clean, as were all the spaces within the hostel (i.e., dorm, toilets, showers, etc.). I'm glad I chose this place!

While staying in Zurich, I wanted to find a place where I wouldn't need to change accommodations and could cook my own meals. Oh my goodness! This place was absolutely perfect. First of all, the transportation is very convenient. It's just one stop past Zurich train station to Stadelhofen, which takes only 4 minutes. The next morning, when I was wandering around, I realized it’s right in the center of everything! The facilities are well-maintained. I had to work during my vacation, and they have designated spaces like a dining room and a study room. There’s also a refrigerator and kitchen facilities. Even if you can’t cook using a stovetop, you can use the oven and microwave. The bathroom and shower facilities are brand new. Hot water and electricity work perfectly. They also provide shampoo and shower gel. Wow! It embodies the spirit of a hostel. It’s designed so that travelers can stay comfortably at a good price and enjoy friendly conversations with each other. They provide tea, coffee, cappuccino (powder), cereal, and toast. This is something that should definitely be advertised more. Personally, I bought coffee beans and used a French press to make my own coffee. You can buy any missing ingredients at COOP and enjoy dishes like egg soufflé, yogurt, and bacon. Most importantly, the staff are incredibly friendly. They clean daily and provide great guidance. Special shoutout to Mondir, who took care of the cleaning and dining room management! The woman on staff was also very diligent and kind. I had a wonderfully relaxing stay here and left feeling truly refreshed.

No. 1 toilet in the room and extensions for charging every bunk bed. My extension cord got confiscated in Dubai so I dont have extra extension coz I thought they only have few power sockets. And of course we have our own toilet in our room.. room 42! 2. Lift/elevator - even if it only fits 1 person and 1 luggage, still there is a lift! 3. We had breakfast in the common kitchen. Cereals, oats muesli, milk, bread, butter, jam, coffee and choco.. they have microwave and toaster and kettle. Utensils and bowl and plates but you have to wash them as you go. 4. Free tshirt if you stay for 3 nights. I got mine for CHF6/€7 coz I stayed for 2 nights. 5. Near to the train station Zurich Stadelhofen. 6. They have coop (convenience store) where you can buy your food, cafes, restau, mall nearby. I got to experience the Christmas market when I arrived in Dec 23, 2024. 7. They have friendly staff and even the owner is giving time to chat with us. I met people from different parts of the world! Happy, and worthy experience. If you have luggage with you, make sure it is durable because the road is with cobblestone. I stayed here from Dec 23-25, 2024. I should have extended my stay since Zurich is still a big place to see. No snow here. It rained when I arrived. I totally recommend this Old Town Hostel Otter even for a first timer solo traveler! Hope you find my review helpful. God bless!

Shower is outside the room, this is common on same floor rooms.

The hostel is very safe; I stayed in a female-only room. Each room is equipped with lockers that come with keys, and the doors require a passcode for access. They also provide towels, and there is a shared bathroom for both toilets and showers in the same corridor. I was able to leave my bag in the locker for free the day after my stay. Additionally, they offer complimentary drinks and coffee throughout the day, along with a free breakfast each morning.

The bed isn't very comfortable. I only stayed there for one night, but it might be an issue for someone staying longer.

The hostel is well located, it has a direct train to go to the airport and its just 20 mins walk from the Zurich train station. The locality is very happening and you have a lot of things to do around. I stayed in the hostel for the first time and I really enjoyed the stay. The rooms and washrooms were very clean. I could store the luggage in case of early check in and late check out. I have no complaints at all.

The location was fantastic...a reasonable walk from the main train station, a quick walk to the lake and river, and situated in the beautiful old part of town. The staff were friendly. It was nice to have the common space to meet other people. The rooms were simple but fairly spacious for a 6-bed capacity, and they still provided some privacy around each bed.

It's worth being mindful that if you want to sleep early and you're a light sleeper, then this place is above a bar, and the noise does carry easily at night. This didn't bother me, but it's worth noting.

This is probably the best hostel experience I've ever had! Hostel Otter was incredibly clean, the location was perfect, and all the staff were friendly. I was surprised to see that the hostel provided free coffee and tea at all hours in the common room. Additionally, from 8:20-10:30 am toast and cereal was provided free of cost. This was a nice surprise as I was trying to save money while in Switzerland. I would definitely stay again!

Nothing!
