I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is small (36 rooms) and located right downtown. It is quite modern, quiet, and all in all very pleasant. I recommend it to others. It is possible to take an elevator from the restaurant below the hotel up to the hotel floors if one is not able or willing to negotiate the stairs up to the first floor.

The front desk is unattended after 9:00 PM, keep this in mind if you plan to arrive late.

I was in Zurich for 1 night and the plan was to attend the nearby Christmas market. The Hotel California was in an ideal location for a short walk to the Christmas market and with a short train ride was also able to access the main train station from this site too. It was a nice stay and would stay there again on future travels to area.

The key system they use there is a little odd and completely different from anywhere else I have stayed in the past.

The hotel location is great as it’s in the central and so close to the station where we could take a quick train to the airport. The hotel staff Carolina was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. The room we stayed in was clean and very spacious. The cooling system was decent and we were given a fan in the room hence it was comfortable during our time of stay (June) and the hotel has a lift from the restaurant if you had big luggages. We had also chance to enjoy local buskering at the restaurants downstairs through our window. Overall we had a great stay.

The cooling system might be not sufficient for hotter season

Everything was excellent. Room was clean and warm, I’ve got everything what I needed and even more, to be honest. I think I will stay there again next time. 10/10 Location is just perfect and view through the window as well. P.S.: perhaps in the night time is loud outside but it didn’t bother me because I had my Loom earplugs with me:)

Location is perfect, near to the most major attractions. Also a tram hub is nearby, so you can get anywhere real fast. Hotel is stylised in a 1960' vibe, but the rooms are renovated and very comfy. Also each electric outlet has a USB-A and USB-C connections, so all you need to charge your phone is a cable :)

Heating in the room didn't work, especially during the night it was quite cold. Unfortunately I got sick :(

Excellent location, at the centre of the city everything was accessible on foot, clean and quiet room and very kind staff!

The breakfast should be improved by adding more choices, and the price was very high.

The property is centrally located. The old town is right outside the front door. the river is viewable from the hotels facing rooms and a 1 minute walk across the street. the rooms are great and the quietness of the surrounding rooms was a bonus. the amenities are good and the rooms were pleasantly large for the size and star rating of the hotel. plenty of eateries within minutes walking distance. including one on the ground floor of the hotel.

At this time I can think of no negatives.

Great location near the old town. Very clean and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our diner in the restaurant underneath the hotel - Papa Joe’s.

For the price the room is small and breakfast was not included.

The location was amazing and very close to the Christmas markets within an easy 4-5min walk. The hotel was very comfortable and although the room was small, it had everything we needed for a family of 4. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was a good size. Tram stop very close.

The room was small for the price that was paid.

This is a simple, but very good hotel in the best possible location. Perfectly clean, quiet, extremely central. All in all, a very good solution in Zurich.

Breakfast was not included, but this is increasingly the case in a number of Swiss hotels, and there were excellent options nearby.
