Oftentimes, online photos can be misleading but when I got to the hostel, it was really beautiful just like in the photos. There's always someone in the reception to attend to guest queries and the staff are very professional. They have a "mini-mart" where you can buy some drinks, chips, noodles, etc. (there is also a 7-11 right around the corner if you want more options) It's a co-working hostel so if you're on a "workcation", there's ample space for you to get your work done. They have a huge lounge and working area plus a cafe and they host different activities everyday. The kitchen is well-equipped, like you can literally find anything you need for cooking or reheating your food. I like how they provide a healthy breakfast - there's always a side of salad and fruits with whatever they're serving for the day. The amount (for me) is just right - enough to get you thru to lunch but also not too much or heavy that you feel sluggish after eating. They're approximately 5 minutes away from Taipei Main Station and there are some bus stops nearby so getting around the city is very convenient. The surrounding areas are well-lit and I never had any issues walking alone at night as a solo traveler. The 8-bed dorm I stayed at shares a common bathroom (2 showers and 2 toilets) with another dorm but in my week-long stay, it never felt crowded and I never had to queue up if I need to use either one of those facilities. They have thick mattresses with matching thick duvets so you can get a really good sleep after a long tiring day of exploring the city (no bed bugs too!) They have a great system in keeping the hostel clean - you need to change into sleepers (provided) before entering the main lounge, only water is allowed inside the rooms, they have several bins for proper garbage/waste segregation and I would see housekeeping staff cleaning up during random times of the day (not just during check-out time).

This isn't really a con for me but more of an observation, although it is a co-working hostel and they have different activities, everyday, the place doesn't have a very "social feel' to it. Even if there's music or a movie playing or guests hanging out at the common areas, it still has a quiet vibe - which can be great or not, depending on what you're looking for in a hostel.

The location was great. A few minutes by foot from Taipei main train station, which can link you directly to the airport and other major cities. It's surrounded by shops, restaurants and coffee shops. It's a very vibrant neighbourhood. Highly recommend this location, for a few nights to transit. The staff is super kind and helpful. Always there to recommend local places and have a small chat. They allow you to store your bags and to stay in the lounge, before check-in/after check-out. It's a 24/7 reception, which is great if you have a plane or train to catch. The shared space is fun and vibrant, and is very inviting. It allows you to meet people, with shared tables and daily organised activities (movie night, etc.). However, if you want you own space and work, it does offer that too. It's a very multifunctional space. The shared kitchen is quite big and very clean, and is fully equipped. It also has free snacks, coffees and teas. The complimentary breakfast is made daily with a wide range of food, and offers vegetarian and vegan options The ONLY female bunk bed room is quite spacious, with a locker big enough for big bags/ small luggages. The bed itself is relatively big and quite comfortable. The shared bathroom is kept very tidy and clean, and is spacious (includes shampoo/shower gel). The whole female ONLY space feels very safe and private, as it has a closed door, allowing ONLY female to enter. Unlike mentioned on the website, they do offer towels for free, as well as other several bathroom amenities.

Nothing, everything was spot on!

It was a great stay as usual. 3rd time staying at Star Hostel. Thanks Chen for recommending a popular steamed dumplings ( 福大蒸餃館) where only locals know. They were so good! Thanks Pamela for taking time to check which salon is good, & making a call reservation for haircut. Wish to thank another staff (didn't get her name..sorry) who taught me how to use the induction heating plate to warm up the soup & making sure that I (including other guests) took a bowl of 汤圆. Attentive & sweet lady. It is nice seeing Chen, Iris, Hannah, Jamie again. Always feel welcome returning here. It is like catching up with old friends whenever I visit Taipei. Keep up the good work Star Hostel & having a team of awesome hardworking staff!

This hostel was amazing. When I first arrived, the staff welcome me with so much warmth and friendliness. Especially Lulu was super nice and helpful, she gave me a great introduction about the hostel; and also in the days I stayed, she was always there to help. The breakfast is also really good. Every day they have a different menu with a nice platter of a main and fruits. It was always a great start to my days. The location is very central. Few mins from the central station, so you can go everywhere easily. Also walking distance to night markets, many stores, cafes and a mall. Rooms was also nice. Enough for 1 person to stay.

all good!

I like the facility what you see is what you get. The staff are so accomodating. The room are clean and the comfort room as well. I felt so safe and comfortable during my stay. I booked the 6 mixed room. If there is a chance to come back in Taiwan, I will book again in Star Hostel. Very accessible near the taipei main station. Thank you Star Hostel Good Job!

The breakfast is not ready when I wake up at 6am. I thought the breakfast will be served at 6 AM. I dont know if you are the one who will prepare the breakfast or the staff. Sad i was able to avail my 3 days free breakfast. I'm sad because I paid for it.

I travelled with colleagues and would highly recommend this hostel. It offers a variety of room types to suit different needs—some of us stayed in single rooms, others in doubles or dorms, with both shared and private bathrooms available. I appreciated the flexibility in room options. We were all quite satisfied, and the common areas were well-designed, allowing each group to find their own comfortable space to gather.

The hostel is located on an old street, and on one pre-rainy day, we experienced a sudden outbreak of cockroaches on the street, coming from the ceiling and the underground pipes. Fortunately, the hostel itself felt like a clean and safe space where we could take shelter comfortably.

Breakfast was provided! A delicious well-balanced set meal each day (set meal changes every day)with free flow of drinks (e.g. delicious soya milk) & bread selection. The location was unbeatable too- near Taipei main station. Made it very convenient to travel around or get to the airport via Airport Express train. The hostel will take care of your baggage even after you check out…up till 11pm. 🕚 The rooms are clean, with fairly large lockers provided. Free bath towels are provided too. They have a fairly large and green communal seating area :)

It was crowded at breakfast time. But the hostel has done its best to stagger the breakfast crowd and flow. Expect to share tables with others, but that’s how you also make new friends 😆 If staying in the dorms, there are only 2 showers & toilets for the entire level to share 😱… However just avoid peak hours and you’ll be fine :)

Clean, professional staff so I felt very welcome, breakfast was sumptuous. Wide selection of drinks during breakfast, even soy milk which I added to my hot coffee. Good effort to stagger the many guests' breakfast so that it's not too crowded. Ladies bathroom may get busy but usually clears out fast enough.

Slippers were a little small for my feet. Maybe I could have requested for the guys slippers haha. There was a hair on my pillow, but no biggie, brushed it off. Mosquito in the bathroom, I worry about Dengue so tried to kill it. Not used to having to "throw nothing into the toilet bowl" maybe they can include a sign inside the cubicle. But there isn't a bad smell as they clean up fast.

We stayed in a private twin room. There were three friendly staff at the front desk to greet us, throughout the day, which was a nice change from the hotel we stayed at earlier in Taipei. The large leisure room with tree houses is a nice area to chill and hangout during the day, and the daily changing menu for breakfast is a nice option.

Small complaints were the need to choose a specific breakfast time (I can understand this is likely to ensure enough seating for guests, but would be more convenient to be able to drop in during a wider block) and that the bathroom in the room is separated by frosted glass panels (if you turn on the light at night, it lights up the whole room and disturbs anyone sleeping). The large map in the lobby, luggage storage area, and free umbrellas for guest use were great amenities that should be promoted at check-in, as we only discovered the map with nearby points of interest and restos on the last day.

Overall, I had a great experience during my stay. The rules/instructions were clear and staff were friendly. I was in the shared female dormitory and the bed was comfortable (I had space to put my belongings at the foot/end of the bed). You get a locker for your belongings & whichever does not fit (ex: suitcase) sits out in the open of the room. The common area was large enough for people to spread out especially when the dining area opened up during the evening/night. Breakfast was disperse evenly in the morning to prevent crowding. The location was ideal (5-10 minute walk to Taipei Main Station) & they had a place to store your luggage after check out.

The bathroom can get crowded during the night (there is only 2 showers & 2 toilets for the two female-dorms). The wait time can be 20-45 minutes for shower depending how many people are in line. However there are toilets in the common area. The temperate in the room can vary depending on what the aircon is set to (first night felt a little stuffy but the other nights were better).
