What a perfect choice for us! Moracea Hotel exceeded our expectations.. the photos don’t do justice to how beautiful is the entire place. It has the most beautiful beach, with greenery, trees, flowers everywhere, a true tropical jungle! We didn’t have problems with mosquitos, if you wonder, but we saw some monitor lizards visitors, scary but harmless! The natural scenery was so perfect, we didn't feel we need to explore other beaches. The staff here takes very good care of the place and of the surroundings! We got a really nice, comfy and big room with sea view (I’m not sure if all of them are like this because we saw a map with many layouts and housing styles). There were many swimming pools, but we enjoyed more the sea. The breakfast buffet was nice, with a good variety of products and the coffee was surprisingly good for a hotel coffee. Pretty close to the city center, some good restaurants were on the main road, at a short distance (10 minute walk). Also, Khao Lak is the perfect location for day trips to National Parks - Similan Islands, Surin Islands, Khao Sok.

Hotel clients "reserved" sunbeds by letting a towel on them, even if they don''t come at all or they come later. So this caused a shortage of sunbeds every day. The hotel staff tried to put posters around the beach / pool locations to politely stop clients to "reserve" sunbeds.. but unfortunately people kept doing that. For example, we stayed at the breakfast spot for a little longer and after 9:30 AM there were no sunbeds left.

Fantastic breakfast in the pavilion down by the sea. The whole resort is very nicely designed and it feels like you have a lot of privacy. Nice gardens and pools a bit hidden between bungalows and villas. Fabulous stretch of beach, even after a walk along the beach all the way to the Bang Niang inlet/river we liked the beach of Moracea best: nice and sandy, never crowded and with nice waves. There is a very nice bar at the beach. The resort is spread along a hillside, but this was not a big problem as every care was taken to make bungalows and rooms accessible and it was quick and easy to order a buggy if you didn't feel like walking. We travelled in the monsoon season, and we needed the buggy a couple of days as the main rain shower was after breakfast. It's a 10-minute walk to the Khao Lak village and there's restaurants even closer, which was nice as the hotel restaurant is rather pricy and gets easily boring. It is easy to organize tours by yourself, we went to an elephant camp by taxi, to the sea turtle conservatory and waterfalls by private car, and to the James-Bond Island (private car to the coast and hired a boat on the spot) at Phang Nga. There were no tours to the Similan Islands in monsoon season. The hotel has good airconditioning (not noisy or too cold) and the showers were hot and had excellent pressure (which is often a problem in Thailand). The staff was very friendly and helpful with every wish.

The rain was a bit boring as it kept raining 2 of the 4 days of our stay, and then there is not so much to do around. Of course this is not the hotels fault. However, the tour operator located in the lobby is not very helpful and has very limited (and pricy) tours on offer. But there is always a local taxi on the road just outside that can give you all the tourist information you need.

Hard to get a deck chair as people reserved them early in the morning even though they were not using them. Very frustrating.

Amazing accommodation, well-managed and operated resort. Pool-access room was excellent for hot weather. Happy Hour at different times at different bars really gave us joy, as well as early bird discounts for the spa and massage. Excellent location, a short walk to streets where good restaurants and cafes are found.

In general, staffs were not very friendly nor approachable. Rarely greeted us when we entered or exited the restaurant or bars (although we did), we had to physically approach them everytime in order to get some general service.

not enough sun loungers. The main contingent is elderly visitors. the decoration needs updating and the furniture is not modern (we had a superior room). I thought the price/quality ratio was a little overpriced, but if the rooms were updated, the price would be ok.

I stayed in the Pool Beach Villa and I have stayed in many villas but this one was amazing, steps to a white sand beach and lovely pool big enough for laps. There is also a nice grass area and trees in front of the villa for privacy prying eyes, perfect for morning exercise. The bedroom was very tasteful and well planned, I slept with the screen open and could hear the waves all night. It was a full moon and I had the beach all to myself after about 11PM. Decor is outstanding in the villa. 2 baths both gorgeous. I stayed alone and the staff made me feel like a Queen, I will be back!

Beautiful hotel sat on a gorgeous beachfront location. The staff are truly wonderful and nothing at all is too much trouble. It's a 10-15 minute walkdown to the beginning of Khao Lak strip where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.

It didn't bother us but the hotel complex could be challenging for those people who struggle with steep walks and steps.

Firstly, let me say I do a lot of travelling and rate hotels on value for money. One cannot expect super luxury for $10 per night. So please bear this in mind when reading this review and compare like with like. The Moracea at Kaho Lak is without doubt the best value for money hotel I have ever stayed in. True, we were in the off season but we got an amazing new villa by the beach and pool in a quiet spot with breakfast included. The hotel facilities were excellent with a modern gym, a spa, lots of pools, a pool table, bars and a restaurant. The beach was beautiful, although the sea was a little rough when we stayed. The staff do a great job in sweeping the beach clean several times a day so it is pristine. The water is very clean but during monsoon the sand kicked up by the waves can make it appear cloudy. We had daily rain storms of a few hours and it was quite humid (we went late august) but we found the weather very pleasant. The grounds are well manicured with a jungle feel but it is quite hilly with lots of steps, which may not suit the old or the infirm. The local town is an easy 10 minute walk away on a safe pathway with good lighting. The area is very, very safe. In the town there are plenty of cheap restaurants, some more expensive joints, bars and massage salons. If you fancy a new suit or some cheap 'brands' there are many, many market stalls and shops. The food at breakfast was varied and high quality while the staff throughout the complex were superb.

As always, there is room for improvement but these are all minor points intended to assist the hotel staff and should not be taken as criticism. Firstly, the restaurant food at lunch and dinner was good quality but expensive when compared to the restaurants in town. The same goes for the cocktails and drinks, although 'Happy Hour' made the drinks very reasonably priced. Secondly, the older parts of the resort were in need of renovation as they were starting to look a little bit dated and worn. Finally, the wifi was a little temperamental and difficult at times with a clunky code and password system.

Gorgeous beach, amazing friendly staff especially Pop. Spacious comfortable rooms, great pools. Lots of breakfast options and really good. Close walk to town. They put on a great show for NYE food inc in the price of stay long buffet style with every food you can imagine, was like a fancy night market. The staff go above and beyond and made our stay 10x better. We will be back, thank you!
