Very comfortable bed with a duvet. Beautiful room and common areas. Staff are super friendly. We really liked the hotel.

Water that comes out of the shower is brown, and shower is also luke warm and even the warm water runs out quickly. The bottled water they give you to drink also tastes bad, and some of the food at breakfast tasted like cigarettes so strongly that I had to spit it out - I don't know if they are smoking in the kitchen.

The breakfasts were delicious and it is super close to the Medina! If you have a rental car, I would say that it would be quite difficult to park or have acces close to the hotel.

The water was a bit tepid water in the shower. It wouldn’t get very hot. Also, bring ear plugs as you can hear people coming back at night to their rooms

We had the best stay at Dar Ben Gacem. The Dar is absolutely beautiful and in a perfect location in the Medina. The best thing about the place, however, was the staff. They were amazing and constantly went above and beyond for us! Breakfast was delicious and the place was spotless. We couldn't have asked for more and would 100% recommend a stay here if you are in Tunis. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy the morning views from the rooftop and relax in the lounge. Follow the staff's tips on local food too - you won't regret it!

Nothing - everything exceeded our expectations.

We loved the courtyard, rooftop and overall layout of the hotel. The whole place is beautifully decorated and there is space to sit in the courtyard and on the rooftop to relax and enjoy the views. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff (front desk and kitchen) are extremely courteous and helpful. When we arrived the gentleman working the front even brought tea to our room after we checked in. He and his colleagues gave us advice about places to eat and arranged cabs for us when needed.

This particular room was a bit smaller than we expected and the bed, although being large, is enclosed on three sides by wall. We returned to the hotel a week later and stayed in a much more spacious room with an open bed, which was only about 13 Euros more. So I would choose the larger room if we ever return. The biggest concern we had though was that the hot water did not always work and when it did, there was not much volume. We were visiting in late December when it was quite cold at night. I tried to take a shower in the morning with no hot water.

I just love the concept of renovating original houses and turning them into wonderful homelike experiences for people from all over the world! Stunning building lovingly restored with local artisanal crafts. Delicious breakfast and the hosts even made me a fabulous gluten free Tunisian dinner after I had been wandering around the Medina for most of the day. They organized a 4:45 AM pickup for the airport and everything went smoothly. I will definitely return. Delightful rooftop terrace and lounge area.

Not for the weak legged since there are quite a few steps. It is located in the old town Medina and my Hammamet driver had great difficulty finding it. I had a lovely time getting totally lost in the Medina with Google Maps so I suppose one must be careful if one has a specific timetable to respect.

The hotel is located in the heart of the city center. The staff was friendly.

There were spots on both towels and bedsheets. The water at the bath tub didn’t go through. There was also a slight communication issue with the hotel personnel. We asked if there was any day trip available to Kairouan, El Jem and Sousse and they confirmed that they will book it for us. When the guide arrived he told us the information he had was only for a guided tour to El Jem. After discussion, we ended up going to El Jem and Sousse but we paid the same price (very high for the provided service) as the one that we would have paid if we have booked a tour online for all 3 destinations. We were also asked several times what time was our flight back home so they could arrange a taxi pick up for us but in the end there no taxi arrived at the agreed time.

Such a beautiful, historic hotel! We absolutely loved how palatial it was. Jamie Oliver filmed his Tunisuan cooking adventures in the hotel's courtyard, and our room was his studio! Definitely a fun fact that works as a great conversation starter. The breakfast was IMPECCABLE. We had a different variety each day, so it was a daily surprise that we looked forward to. From delectable porridges to tasty shakshukas - the food was fantastic. It was our favourite part staying at Dar Ben Gacem. Staff are super friendly, and the location is perfect. It's right in the Medina - everything is walkable from here. Will definitely return - Tunisia is a STUNNING country.

We didn't have hot water during most days of our stay. The weather was great so we got away with it, but it still caused difficulties. Would appreciate it if the hotel fixes the problem asap!

A sympathetic conversion of a traditional house in the medina of Tunis. The staff were very attentive and arranged for a local guide, Hassan to visit the impressive coliseum at El Jem some 2 hours away by car, also to visit the newly reopened Bardo Museum with its impressive collection of Roman mosaics.. Also visited Sidi bou Said, the prosperous blue and white suburb and the Carthage sites by taxi. The sunrise from the roof garden was beautiful.

Cleaning of the room was requested after 2 days, but didn’t happen till the day before I left.

This is an authentic Tunisian guest house with a beautiful internal courtyard and lovely rooftop terrace allowing for a skyline view of the city. It is located in the old medina with easy walking distance to Tunis's European quarters. The room was authentically decorated, comfortable and quiet. The staff surpassed our expectations. They were very polite and helpful. They arranged a pick-up ride for us from the airport to the guest house and offered to have our breakfast served earlier on the days we were taking a tour and departing. They provided helpful suggestions for restaurants, visiting the medina and transportation to other cities in Tunisia. The breakfast served in the courtyard was always delicious and plentiful. The rate is very fair and reasonable for quality of accommodations compared to other hotels. Thank you for a lovely and memorable stay!
