We arrived to a slightly chilly hotel as the heating had broken but the welcome from the staff couldn't have been warmer. They were superb. We loved hanging out by the fire in the guest lounge during a very snowy day. The hotel is a great base for walking with lots of routes from the doorstep. It's great being able to park the car up for the weekend and not drive anywhere. We also liked having the option of Lanty Slee's bar right next door for a change.

The only slight negative was the limited food choice for vegetarians. Also being spammed with offers in advance. I've never had this before when using Booking.com and it left a bad impression. Fortunately the first impressions upon actually arriving at the hotel were great.

lovely pub & hotel..beds really comfy & rooms very clean & comfortable, it's good that you get toiletries & soft lovely towels, very friendly staff & the food was really good.. especially the full English breakfast.. plenty of choice for other breakfast options.. its handy for all the walks, we walked up to stickle tarn..well worth the slog..see attached photos of the top

I know it was out of their control but the heating wasn't working.. but we were given a heater for the room.. we had no hot water for 1 day, but it was soon fixed & they compensated us by giving us a 50% discount on our food & bar bill.. thankyou

Our stay at New Dungeon Ghyll coincided with some severe weather in the Northwest. There was snow on the mountains which turned to heavy rain and flooding the next day. The staff at the hotel were therefore attending to various emergencies, with people not being able to get home, and others cancelling. Throughout they remained calm, helpful and friendly. To stave off the winter chill there were log-burning stoves in the public areas and mulled wine. Excellent service through a difficult couple of days.

The radiator in our room was air-locked and needed bleeding before heat could come through. We did this to save the staff the trouble!

A stunning mansion and grounds in one of the world’s best locations for hikers. Lashings of hot water and at last a real loo with a powerful flush. A fine bar downstairs with excellent beer. The tv in the room was big and excellent. Hiking from the door up to Stickle Tarn is incredible!

Some of the decor is dated but that’s fine. My room appeared to need vacuuming but it wasn’t an issue and I’d asked to switch for a better garden view on arrival. The shower was awesome though eccentric - the first 10% turn went from cold to scalding.

Amazing Location - didn't use the car all weekend, just walked straight from the hotel - appreciated having the onsite parking so I could just forget about the car. I arrived early and they allowed me to check-in as room was ready - which was nice to be able to drop-off stuff and head straight out. Staff were all very friendly/super helpful. Shower was powerful and toasty - just what you want after walking the hills all day (as was a nice beer from the bar!). Nice, fresh white cotton bedding and comfy beds. Would happily stay again.

Toilet in my room wouldn't flush - but not the worst thing that could happen - I reported the issue and left it with the staff - TBH I wasn't in the room enough for it to be a drama.

Location and appearance were stunning. Facilities were very good. Food and drink were good and were good value. Staff were friendly, chatty and really added to the character of the hotel. When a problem arose (interruption to water supply) they sorted it out quickly and offered a generous discount in compensation.

The description on booking.com (not on the hotel website) was incomplete and misleading. (It invited me - inappropriately - to upgrade to a room with a toilet, which was ridiculous because all rooms at the hotel had one).

Excellent location with inspiring views. Roomy and comfortable public areas. Dog friendly too. Nothing too much trouble for Finn, Dianne and the rest of the hospitality team. Good quality, freshly cooked food especially the breakfasts. Variable lunch and evening menus. Also liked the fact that the servers took the trouble to check for any food allergies when taking the orders. Bus stop at the end of the drive, with regular service if required. We will be back again next year.

We had 5 fabulous nights over New Year, the staff were so lovely and we had frequent natters with the chef and team. The food was always amazing and met the needs of many. Breakfast was a real treat. The hotel was comfortable, warm and cozy, we enjoyed congregating in the lounge and bar areas. Regarding location- this is stunning and we walked some great routes from the hotel. We are hoping to go back soon.

That we weren't there for longer.

The hotel is really nice , plenty of rooms to sit and relax , all with amazing views . It was really nicely done for Christmas . Also a small bar , with tables and chairs , great for meeting people , and can also be used by the public who just want to stop and have a drink and something to eat after a long walk . People were so friendly . The area around the Hotel is stunning , The best thing was the Staff , The Staff at this Hotel were the best I have encountered and I have stayed in many hotels inc 4 star . They were friendly , Helpful, polite, fun , and would go above and beyond to make your stay extra special . the food was also good and a nice selection . I will be returning to this Hotel , as do many others who we met on our stay .

Nice location for hiking in Langdale Valley. We availed ourselves of the trails leading directly from the hotel to hike up to Stickle Tarn and beyond - it's nice not to be concerned about driving and parking! The staff were friendly and accommodating of our slightly early arrival. We enjoyed a pint at the on-site pub, and also dinner at the Lanty Slee pub next door.

If anything the room furnishings could be updated; but certainly adequate for a pair of hikers!
