The place is steeped in history and built hundreds of years ago x The surrounding areas are stunning We arrived to an absolute beauty of a room There were towels with chocolates on even supplying a hairdryer and straightners We had French doors straight out to a wonderful garden x All you could hear were the birds singing The bathroom was big and spacious with ample toiletries to use The bed was massive and really comfortable. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order using all local fresh produce The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. All in all it was a lovely weekend break away.

I wouldn't say I didn't like it but a new carpet would have finished off the look perfectly .but thats not a negative comment just my view

An absolutely beautiful hotel. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. We had to leave our car early to attend a wedding. We were going to get changed in the toilets after travelling two hours. They let us use the room to change and drop off our bags. We had a late key for the front door. Very friendly and helpful. The room was gorgeous. Attention to detail was amazing. Everything you could want was available. The bed was one of the most comfy we have slept in. The breakfast was very well cooked and presented. All areas of the hotel were very smart and comfortable. Would definitely recommend very highly.

We were met on arrival by an extremely friendly and helpful lady who soon got us sorted out after a long journey to get there. Once bags were dropped into the rooms a few drinks were ordered and said lady continued with her superb service by sorting out the evening meal for us. This was excellent food for 12 hungry mountain bikers preparing to start the Pennine Bridleway the following morning. Drinks continued to flow and a great time was had by all. Breakfast was again excellent with fresh local produce the following morning with excellent service. It was extremely easy to find the hotel but note there is no car park so parking is on the roadside....not a problem for us but worth mentioning.

Absolutely nothing!

Lovely 2 bedroomed cottage next to the pub. Well equipped kitchen, comfy lounge, good sized bathroom. 2 lovely bedrooms. Lovely breakfast included in the pub itself. Very friendly staff/owners. Lovely clean bedding and towels.

The windows throughout the cottage are single glazed so the traffic noise was very noticeable, however, the traffic was fairly quiet during the night but started early in the morning with tractors passing by. As the cottage was pet friendly, and we don't have pets, we did notice a lot of dog hairs "floating" in the air as we moved around. There was a fair bit of dust on the banister up the stairs and the kitchen sink had some sort of residue in it and didn't seem to be clean. Also, one of the sharp knives in the kitchen had to be washed before we could use it as it hadn't been left clean by previous users. Other than that it was a pleasant stay.

Beautifully upgraded 17th century inn, lovely warm welcome; great food ; wonderfully appointed rooms. Special touches e.g. a low light on during the night if you had to get up for any reason, and given the old quirky building and occasionally uneven floors that was most reassuring to see where you were going! Fabulous shower room. Great hospitality tray and our room had a L shape with a table and chairs at the window looking over the sheep in the field opposite! My friend and I shared a family room which had a large double bed and a full size single. Bedding, towels, glasses, mugs, soaps and gels, all great quality. Our two friends shared a twin room which was also very well appointed. The whole place was very relaxed and informal but the owners made sure everything was as we wanted it to be and the staff were all really lovely, friendly and helpful. The breakfast choices were excellent, and freshly cooked to order. We really enjoyed our overnight stay while travelling north into Scotland. The town is just a short walk away, and is full of small independent shops, there is a lovely river walk and plenty eating and drinking places. All in all, a really lovely place.

Can't really think of anything we didn't like!

From when I walked into the Royal Oak, the welcome was really nice. All the staff were really helpful, and they responded to any questions that I had very promptly before the visit and during the stay. The cottage was wonderfully presented and clean. We didn't use any of the kitchen facilities beyond the kettle, but it looked like it had all of the necessities cooking if we wanted. The rooms were very clean and warm, and the bathroom was also very clean too and the shower was exactly what I needed. The breakfast in the morning was exactly what we needed. The staff were really helpful and made sure that my coffee was always topped up and were really accommodating. I would definitely recommend staying here.

The reception was warm and welcoming, even our little old pug was welcomed and dogs are catered for very well (a welcome goodie bag in the room for her and water / food bowls provided). The menu choices were great, the food well presented, tasty and reasonably priced (as were the drinks). Fantastic South African merlot on the menu and a melt in the mouth white chocolate mousse. I really appreciated the specific allowances / options for gluten free intolerance on the menu (both dinner and breakfast).

We booked a king size premium room and it was outstanding. Huge room with lots of well positioned sockets, beautifully furnished and decorated, gorgeous modern bathroom, comfortable bed and lovely added touches such as cotton wool buds, makeup remover pads, lots of mirrors, one with lights, plenty of refreshments, dressing gowns and and even aplace to leave muddy boots. Seperate dining areas for families with dogs. Food was amazing and beautifully presented. Breakfast was also great. There was some parking on site or in the road outside. Staff went above and beyond to provide a warm, friendly and welcoming service. It was obvious the owners took pride in their facility and genuinely wanted guests to enjoy their stay. Cant recommend this gem highly enough and it was the perfect resting place from our long road journey.

Nothing! Only that we couldnt award more than 5 stars!

Lovely, welcoming, friendly staff. Facilities were very good. All were very welcoming for pet owners with a thoughtful welcome pack for our dog! Nice breakfast and evening meal. Highly recommend. We will be more than happy to return in the future.

Parking was on side of the road. We were able to park so wasn't an issue for us, but may be an issue for come people or if there was no available spaces. However, this is being pretty picky as everything else was very good!

Friendly welcome. Comfortable room. The hotel were able to give us a packed breakfast as we had to leave early the next day. Clear instructions on how to get our breakfasts and packed lunches and leave the hotel.

The room - which overlooked the front - was a bit noisy while the bar was open and we could smell cigarette smoke as our windows were open but it quietened down later. The hotel isn't centrally located in Appleby but fine to reach with a 15 - 20 minute walk.
