Lovely old inn with a very welcoming bar and restaurant and a very welcome roaring fire to greet us on a cold winters day. Also a very good quality restaurant with great food and good menu. We had a very enjoyable dinner and breakfast, both of a very high standard. Easy access from the motorway, although in a quiet village. Easy parking directly outside the Inn. Pleasantly decorated room with a good bed and linen.

Our room was small, with nowhere really to put anything, so we were both tripping over our bags whenever we moved round the room. Likewise the shower room which was tiny and unheated, again nowhere to put clothes, towels or toiletries, just two small hooks on the back of the door which were being used for bathrobes and a tiny shelf already filled with the house toiletries (for sale).

Well situated just a few minutes from the M6 / A66 junction. Warm welcome and room was the same as previously stayed in, warm, quiet and with plenty of bottled water / tea / coffee (but no biscuits😥) Food was very good, tasty and in the portions were just right. Good selection of beer and wine. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly yet unobtrusive

The ambience in this pub is amazing. I was travelling alone with my dog and felt really welcome from the get go. The staff went the extra mile. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was lovely. The location is very handy to the M6 and the A66. I very much hope to return as I only had one night there.

There was a small problem with the wash hand basin in my room as it wasn't draining properly. Since I was only there one night it wasn't a huge issue and I reported it the next morning.

wonderful location, bringing back gorgeous memories of a family wedding at Askham Hall.

In the outside room the fan on the main building wall and next to our window was buzzing on and off all night, very difficult to sleep. This was a real shame as I adored everything else.

Fantastic Food, lovely staff very helpful..

Payed for a soperior room, only to be told that they were booked up on arrival and had a room only, which was very small, with shower and the smallest TV I've ever seen. we did get a small discount payment on cheque out, but it did put a downer on are five night stay.

Bed comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast excellent with plenty of choices and served by friendly staff.

Room was a bit small.. with 2 people and suitcases not much room to move about. Evening menu did not have much vegetarian choice.. we were a party of 4 and 2 are vegetarian as such we chose another place to eat at which had a slightly better choice. A shame really as I understand the food from the kitchen is excellent!

the rooms were cosy, the restaurant was amazing!

The room we stayed in (4) was a fair size but was loud of an evening and could hear the bar downstairs. We didn’t have any issue getting to sleep but for light sleepers it may have been a problem

The Queens Head pub is the quintessential English pub great atmosphere with superior dinning now that it is part of the Lowther group of pubs

Breakfast excellent and restaurant food in the evening also excellent. Location very good: close to walks and easy to access from M6. Comfortable bed and good shower. We were able to dine with our dog in the bar area in the evening and also for breakfast. Dog biscuits provided in room and water bowl provided in the bar.

Atmosphere and food. Our room was a comfortable small double so we were fully aware of limited space. Staff friendly and special mention to Mike on the bar who had perfect customer service skills. We will return again.
