A faultless stay in this fabulously honest unique hotel set within the dramatically rugged Scottish countryside. From start to finish the owner and his truely wonderful staff were without exception, amazingly attentive, helpful, warm and welcoming. The food was top notch with everything created in-house (including their rather fine hand crafted shortbread), and the well stocked bar was immaculately kept. My room was was a pleasant surprise too, tastefully referbished with original features kept, huge super comfy bed, toastie warm, a stand alone bath, all presented spotlessly - in all, the perfect environment. This is a true gem of an establishment, and i can not wait for my return trip and continued banter with the wonderful staff.

For ne, there was nothing to dislike

Overall the experience was indeed very positive The hotel was very clean and the staff very sttentive. The chef cooked a special meal for my partner as she only eats chicken

If I have a small criticism it would be we asked for a double room and although it was to all purposes it was the beds were 2 single beds put together with a double mattress on top which over a period of time has caused a the mattress to become in effect 2 single beds As we were there for valentine not what we were looking for Just a minor criticism

Our welcome was outstanding, and we were given a tour of the ground floor and information on the hotel. Our room was at the back of the hotel and was not only quiet but very warm and comfortable. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The evening meal was excellent, and breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was delicious. We understand that the hotel is undergoing a full refurbishment, and the work done so far is to a very high standard and well worthy of its 4 stars.

There was nothing to dislike.

The breakfast was very good. Also the evening meals which we purchased there. Overall a nice place to stay.

Nothing really. Just on the morning i was leaving I wanted to pay with my credit card. But for some reason it was aborted after trying twice. I told the lady I was actually in credit hence why I was using that card. Could she find out why, but she just asked me to use another card, which I did. On calling my bank it was the hotels fault, there was no evidence of any declined transactions. It was very embarrassing as there were people behind me. I think on arrival my card number which was entered manually by the lady was keyed in wrongly.

Room was in a lovely part of the hotel with a balcony and views of the side garden. The bed was really comfortable and there were robes provided. Well stocked tea tray & room was cleaned even though we were only there for 2 nights. The dining room was beautifully decorated and the breakfast was delicious with lots of choices of cereals, fruit juice, yogurt, fruit & some pastries. Great options on menu for cooked breakfast - I was going to a parkrun at Crathes Castle so ordered a bacon sandwich and took it with me for after the run. The manager and other staff were really friendly. We went out for food and when we arrived back the bar was just about to close due to it being quiet but the barman did offer to open up again for us - we all decided to have a short & mixer instead as he had already started to clean the lines for the pumps. We didn't get chance to eat at the hotel due to arriving late on Friday and visiting family on Saturday but the menu looked nice with reasonable prices. Short walk into the town centre for pubs and a couple of restaurants - we ate at the Indian. If going to the Italian, you may need to book as it is very small. Crathes Castle is a short drive away and is beautiful. Lots of information in the booklet in the room.

The room felt a bit cramped as there was a lot of furniture - a smaller wardrobe would have been much better. The toilet made a loud noise when flushed and we didn't get any hot water from the taps. There were 4 of us having breakfast together, we asked for extra toast as 2 of the guests came down a bit later but we never received it and we also weren't offered any sauces with breakfast. The bar closed very early because it was quiet.

Exceptional, Shona went out of her way to make our stay memorable. She couldn't have done more to make our stay any better. The hotel is in a beautiful old country house which is beautifully furnished and clean. All of the staff were impeccably turned out and helpful. We arrived late but Shona ensure that we had a delicious hot meal on arrival accompanied by ice cold beer and a tipple or two of gin. The surrounding gardens of the hotel are beautiful and are full of mature trees which give a feeling of cosiness. The bedroom was elegant with a seating area overlooking the gardens. The bathroom was clean and of a good size. I had the best sleep I've had in years and will definitely stay here again when next in the area.

Nothing.

The dining room was lovely, very clean and the staff were really nice. The decor had a very Scottish theme , and it was a comfortable place to eat breakfast.

The bacon sandwich was dreadful, I couldn’t eat it and I noticed someone on the next table had left theirs too. It wasn’t called a bacon sandwich on the menu, I had to ask a member of staff what it was at first, I wished I hadn’t bothered.

Decor although traditional was fresh and appealing the bathroom in classic room was large modern with walkin shower Dinner was delicious with choice of dishes Breakfast was served and tea and coffee came in pots not DiY in machine Altogether meals were an enjoyable and relaxing experience served by friendly attentive staff

Unfortunately due to age of building there is no lift This was explained on booking and we were given first floor room There is car parking right up to front entrance and understand ramp facilities

Very comfortable bedroom, excellent bathroom. The Restuarant was so very very good, the carvery on Sunday was absolutely gorgeous meal. The staff were a pleasure to chat to

Trying to find road entrance in the dark is extremely tricky to see the driveway. Lights mounted on the pillars would make it clear and be a very welcome sight in the dark November nights.

The staff were exceedingly helpful, friendly, and just an absolute pleasure to interact with. The room was COMFORTABLE, far exceeding the hotels in this price range. The food in the restaurant was superb.

The stairs are a little noisy, and it would have been nice if the elevator worked for carrying luggage, but that was only a minor inconvenience and did not detract from the overall experience.
