I had a two night stay to explore the area and the coast. my huge room was spotlessly clean with comfortable beds. the hotel is characterful in a great position near the town and river. Large selection for breakfast ( cooked /continental included) and plenty of high quality choices on the main meal and wine menu. Well stocked bar, plenty of ale/lager on tap, there is a large wine and cocktail list. The best thing about my stay were the amazing staff; from check in to departure, as a solo traveler,I felt well looked after. everyone wax genuinely friendly and professional. The river side terrace is such a unique feature. I will definitely book another stay at this well run and friendly hotel.

nothing!

Set in a great location by the river. we were fortunate enough to have a spacious room overlooking the river. Lovely staff all very helpful and welcoming. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, lovely food and a great ambience. Great comfortable night sleep. Good shower with sumptuous towels. Breakfast was also good.

The fact there was a party on in a separate function room and all the guests from here decided to congregate by the doors to the outside patio when clearly they had their own space which was cordoned off. It took an age to pay our restaurant bill as they for some reason decided to use the restaurant bar despite having their own bar in the function room

From the moment we arrived, we were made welcome. The staff were friendly and helpful, our room (room 10) was very nice - everything was clean, bright, with a river view from the bedroom and bathroom windows. We liked having the tea making facilities in the room and the toiletries were nice too. Breakfast choices were good. We had dinner in the restaurant on the evening of our arrival and we were glad we did - the menu was varied, the food was fresh, well presented and very good. The restaurant and terrace areas are lovely and really add to the overall experience of this hotel - having breakfast in the early morning light, sitting watching the sun set over the river while enjoying a glass of wine and dinner, having a coffee in the sunshine on the terrace - the whole experience was one of relaxed enjoyment. We would definitely recommend it and are looking forward to an opportunity to go again.

The only thing - the safe in our room did not work.

The location was wonderful. The terrace and the restaurant were lovely for the views of the river. The restaurant tables were nicely spaced and the menu was good. Staff were efficient and friendly.

My room ,bedroom number nine was a lovely room but far too hot. The fan that was supplied just recycled the hot air and wasn't efficient. There needs to be a proper shower put in over the bath. The hand held shower head was not fit for purpose when sitting in the bath as it was so powerful that it sprayed on the floor no matter how you held it.

Stayed in the "Brumfitt Room" which was very large and overlooking the river. Very large comfortable queen size bed. My shirt was creased in my suit bag so I rang reception for an iron and the phone was barely back in the cradle before the iron was delivered to my door. My wife likes a caramel latte but the first one we ordered from the bar came back too sweet, a quick word with the barman and it was changed instantly and the second one was excellent. We had a private dining room for a family function and again the service was faultless and attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent. Instantly greeted fo breakfast and shown to our seats, tea and toast served straight away. There was a slight delay for breakfast but this was because it was all being cooked fresh and not pre prepared and sat under heat lamps. It was delicious.

We could not fault anything.

Part of the building is Grade 1 listed. Our room on the top floor was olde worlde exposed beams, without a single level floor or vertical wall. It was well appointed (17 coat hangers, tea, coffee AND hot chocolate. Real bar of soap, shaving mirror). Comfortable bed Excellent breakfast. Riverside location will be nice in summer (visited in March)

Constraints of an attic room and the position of the beds restricted headroom for sitting in bed. Also, there was no shower curtain over the bath and a notice to say "No stand-up showering" Room a bit cold and draughty (Grade 1 limits what improvements can be done)

Our room had an amazing view of the river. At night it was lovely to look down on the terrace lit up and part of the water infront of it. Coming down in the morning to a lovely conservatory for our breakfast, Plenty of choice and space between tables; again the view of the river was lovely. We chose the hotel for its location, and it was perfect as a base for exploring local beach destinations, Benacre and Covehythe, and Bungay; an added bonus was how quick and easy to walk into local town centre.

I think the duvet itself (not the cover) could have been a bit softer; it had a feeling of being a bit old and matted inside.

The hotel is based on a 500 years old building. My room was charming, with original timbers keeping the roof up over a thoroughly modern room and a pleasing view of the river. No noise from other rooms or downstairs. The bar was really nice, with a good range of beers and staff that understood the product. I did not have an evening meal there, although breakfast was thoroughly excellent. I did overhear a wedding party from the day before discussing the excellent food, so it sounds like I missed out. Breakfast was overlooking the river with occasional small craft passing by. If it were summer, we could have been outside right by the water. The hotel had a good wifi service and phone signal in all areas. The town of Beccles was very quiet and civilised - I was there for a music concert in the church hall. All highly recommended.

I can't think of anything that was not good.

We had already booked Sunday lunch with brother and sister in law and were able to check in early. The room was quirky being on 2nd floor, with roof beams. The bed was very comfortable and hot water was readily available in the bathroom. the room was warm and we were able to control temperature easily. Staff are very cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was good and the cooked elements very tasty. The location was great for walks along Waveney and for access to the town centre.

Nothing really, apart from having to duck under the low angled roof beam to open the windows. It proved perfect for our needs for a 2 night stay

hotel location is superb - right alonside the river Waveney and the marshes stretching into the distance on the far bank. Swans, geese, boats ... Hotel approached by a quiet road. Dining room and bar are located on the riverside, a totally relaxing ambience. So peaceful. Food excellent, especially the seafood platter. And breakfasts were out of this world. Staff all welcoming and helpful. Beccles is an interesting little town with an amazing variety of architecture, and seems a splendid starting point for exploring the southern Broads area.

have only marked down the 'comfort' section just one mark, because the double bed seemed rather narrow. Also, lighting in the bathroom is rather dim - maybe a lamp near the mirror would make a difference?
