A lovely comfortable country inn, in a beautiful part of the countryside. I was staying on business in the area, but I can see that it would be a great place to stay for people on holiday and exploring the area. I ate at the restaurant and the food was excellent, the steak and ale pie was just fantastic.

Mobile reception is weak, not the property’s fault, but there is WiFi. My room was above the bar and so there was understandable noise until around midnight, this did not detract from my stay. However, if you are sensitive to noise you may be wise to discuss room choice with the property when booking.

The bar staff/waiting staff were amazing. The food was very good and nicely presented. Great to have such different choices on the menu. The bedroom had all the facilities we required and was very comfortable. The chocolates were delicious.

Whilst the bedroom was nice, unfortunately we found it was a bit noisy and quite warm (though we did notice a fan in the wardrobe). We had the windows open, but then we could hear some thumping sounds occasionally, not sure what this was. There was a buzzing sound like a fridge turning off and on all the time, another noise sounding like a water heater bubbling away. There is also a picture hook which is half out of the wall, which could be rectified.

This is the third time we have stayed at the Fairfax Arms. Great location for exploring the Yorkshire countryside. Since we last stayed they have built an Orangery as an extension to the restaurant and its great. It has big bi-fold doors which weather premitting makes a great open space with the outside. Staff really helpful and very friendly and they all couldn't do enough for you. Food in the restaurant was outstanding and breakfast was superb. Scrambled eggs cooked as it should be! We will be back again. Very comfy bed.

Bedroom had a strange smell. I suspect as the pub is dog friendly there may have been an accident in our bedroom and chemicals were used to clean the carpet. (not entirely sure however). The bath has a glass door to prevent shower water from escaping. However this did not work due to large gap at the bottom of the glass where it meets the bath top. The bathroom floor was flooded as a result. No big deal but had to mop up afterwards.

The fairfax arms was set in a gorgeous little village. The food was lovely and the room we stayed in was a great size with a spa bath

The room we stayed in had an enormous bed, however the springs had clearly gone on both sides, meaning there was an arch in the middle and it sagged on both sides. Did not get much sleep and our backs were aching in the morning. We had our dog with us and we struggled to find anywhere to walk him, but we were only staying one night so it was not too much of an issue.

The Fairfax arms is in a beautiful quiet village. The staff where friendly and helpful The rooms where comfortable and well equipped. The evening meal and breakfast where really good. Good portions , presentation and a great choice.

Pleased to say there wasnt anytjing to dislike. Except my husband had the sticky toffee pudding. Which tasted a little burnt ,both myself and our daughter tasted this and agreed. But the staff apologised and brought my husbsnd his second choice.

All the staff were very helpful and welcoming- we needed a late check in time and to pay for an extra guest at breakfast who had a dog with him, this wasn’t a problem at all and they were there to greet us when we arrived even later than expected due to road closures. Very nice clean rooms, super comfy beds, nice touches like a little box of handmade chocolates on the bedroom tea tray and yes the breakfast was exceptional. We were in the area for a family event and other family members ate in the evening at The Fairfax and said the meal was excellent. We’d definitely stay again next time we’re in the area.

Great location in the centre of a very pretty village. Plenty of parking available on site. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Both dinner and breakfast were very good. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean.

We asked for a quiet room but were placed in one directly over the pub bar which was very audible until quite late in the evening. It was also on the front of the building on the village main street - with single-glazed windows that was also noisy. Bed was very small for a room for 2 people.

Great breakfast and tranquil location. Good atmosphere in bar with mix of residents and locals. Good sized and comfortable bedroom

We were unable to get dinner in the hotel as they had stopped serving at 5pm because of the bank holiday and all the restaurants were booked up in Helmsley, the only option nearby (4 miles away). This was just bad luck since they normally serve much later, but little consolation for us eating our cold dinner from the co-op!

the building is still great…in an absolutely lovely setting and village. the extension for breakfast and dinner is still really nice.

the pub needs to be cleaner everywhere…the staff should not let dirty cloth on the bar. There is a bad smell throughout (not sure if it is the kitchen or loo so a deep cleaning and often constant opening of windows should happen. the pub was spotless and 5 stars feel before covid.. it is downgrading a bit.

Nice pub in lovely village and the accommodation was welcoming, warm and really well equipped. The staff were nice and friendly and helpful too. The breakfasts however were lovely.

The parking was tight in the pub courtyard at the rear. The quality of the food served in the evening and on the Sunday afternoon was not great and could and should be much better than was served to me.
