Breakfast was amazing and the accomodation excellent.

Being told to move my car as some Ferrari owners had 'reserved' most of the car park. The staff were very polite about it (and a bit embarrassed) but it did sour the visit by making us feel second rate. It also meant we had to carry our bags twice as far. I would suggest in future they warn people if there will be limited parking due to other patrons being prioritised as more deserving.

Beds are comfortable and the shower is first class. Breakfast is brilliant and the chapel dining room is magnificent. Choice is excellent. Not too much emphasis on vegan rubbish. Excellent parking just outside. The building and it's history are fascinating and the restoration is excellent.

It was all excellent with little to dislike. The washbasins are really annoying because there is no plug to put in. The water just runs away so you can't fill a bowl of water. Stupid idea, but overall this is a small thing.

Beautiful hotel with lovely rooms and fabulous bathrooms. The restaurant is charming, and the food was mostly excellent—especially breakfast, which was a real highlight. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. That said, room cleaning was a bit inconsistent, which stood out given the overall quality of the place. One downside was being asked about leaving gratuities for all staff at checkout, despite already having paid nearly £500 for food and drinks over three nights, with a 20% service charge already included. It felt a bit awkward and detracted slightly from an otherwise wonderful experience.

The jail has been very sensitively renovated with great respect for the inmates who were incarcerated there over the centuries. The ultra-modern additions complement the historic architecture beautifully. Our room was extremely comfortable and the food was excellent. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Bodmin jail attraction on our last day too. It’s hands-down one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in and would love to visit again someday.

The only (very) small disappointment for me was the “after dark tea”, which I had arranged as a birthday surprise for my partner during our stay. It was advertised as having a spooky theatrical element, with specially-marked teacups for divining tea leaves and everything served on a ouija board, but none of that was included, so it was in the end just a rather expensive (albeit perfectly tasty) normal afternoon tea. If only I had known this, I would have saved my money and done something else. The only “spooky” element we could discern was the (admittedly delicious) coffin-shaped brownies. We discovered that they do sell the advertised spooky tea sets in the attraction shop, but having already forked out for the tea, I didn’t feel much like buying a set to take home.

The room was clean and quiet with a fridge well stocked with a complimentary mini-bar. The beds were very comfortable.

We took our 12 year old son, but he didn't feel included in the room accommodation due to the room lacking a 3rd set of towels, a 3rd cup or glass. He was also overseen at Breakfast when only 2 pre-starters appeared. Frankly, both mornings were chaotically managed by the staff who didn't seem to be very organised, particularly when we had to wait 10 minutes for a table to be prepared. The waiting staff seemed to not work very well together. This we found embarrassing and unusual considering the price paid for the room. We also were seated on the first morning at a dirty table and had to request for it to be cleaned. We stayed at the hotel approx. 12 months ago and saw little to no improvement in the staff management.

The property is beautifully renovated, it’s a truly stunning hotel was so much attention to detail. The history is not washed away but if embraced with lots of info cards and original features. For such an old building it was warm and welcoming, with plush finishes to feel cosy even inside your cell. The staff are all wonderfully friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious.

My only minor fault is the wine selection in the bars, it was listed as extensive and eclectic but the vast majority were basic dry wines. We tried out the bar but wished we had gone elsewhere for our evening drink as the selection left a lot to be desired.

The history of the hotel and how it has been lovingly restored using the original building. The original features that they have left. The addition of adding new alongside the old. The staff. They have The Champagne Bar with a lovely log fire, serving drinks and lunch. The Chapel restaurant where we have dinner and breakfast. There is also a small mezzanine lounge area, with books and tvs if you want to chill out.The rooms comprise of 3 cells, the bedroom, lounge area, and luxurious bathroom with heated floor. Both bath and shower. Robes are provided, and there is a complementary mini bar with cornish soft drinks. Tea and coffee. The rooms are very quiet. The original cell windows are still in place. The room also has a plaque telling you about the prisoner that was housed in your room. To some, it may sound macabre, but it was a truly wonderful stay, no ghosts for our stay 👻. Access to the museum as well.

If I had to say anything, it would be the lack of signage to find the hotel. Our sat nav got a little confused 😜

The jail was a different experience, very enjoyable, The 'cells' were comfortable and spacious. Food was excellent with delicious breakfasts and we had a very enjoyable meal in the Chapel. Would certainly return.

The only thing I could find fault with was breakfast. There weren't enough tables for the amount of guests so queuing for breakfast was normal and there weren't enough staff to clear tables quickly enough for the next guests. Ordering was slow but the staff worked very hard to look after their guests and apologised constantly, they were very aware of the problems. Maybe management could look at that.

Loved the friendly helpful staff, thoughtful details for our anniversary including flowers and a card. The facilities are beautiful and has everything you need. The food was incredible, complimentary minibar, comfy bed, great shower and great attention to detail in the finishes.

If you’re a little less mobile it’s a bit tricky with steps to breakfast but they did help where they could. The pillows were too soft but literally everything else was fabulous!

The history and the decor are well balanced.

We booked for dinner at The Chapel restaurant ahead of our visit, only to be told by the restaurant staff, he would have to check with the chef if it were possible to accommodate us, when I questioned this, stating I had booked months ago, he replied, yes, I understand but I still need to check with the chef. Confused by this I assertively said I have booked a table months ago, therefore we should be seated. Once seated it took staff almost 40 minutes to come and take our drinks and food order, despite the restaurant not being fully booked! This had spoiled the end to what was a wonderful day. Restaurant staff and manager need to do better.
