Great breakfasts - set us up nicely for days of walking on the Tors. The owners are very welcoming. Ten minutes walk from Becky Falls and Hound Tor / Greator / Haytor are a good hour's walk away (or 10 minute drive). Rooms with big windows overlooking countryside or with trees. V comfy beds. Despite also being a (very warm welcoming countryside dog-friendly) pub we found it quietened down every night at 11 and was a very peaceful sleep.

When we arrived we were told we'd had our room upgraded, which would've been wonderful! Except that the upgraded room was 1 king bed, and we'd requested a twin room. Luckily they were able to swap us round with minimal fuss. That is more an issue with how Booking.com connects to other booking systems, I booked a twin room on booking.com and that request didn't make it on to their system. So a bit of advice to others, add to the "additional requests" / "booking notes" boxes, or contact the place directly, if you're looking to book a room with twin beds.

Overall, we had a good experience here. Firstly and most importantly, the food was very good, especially the specials - kudos to the chef. The pub has a very cosy atmosphere, and so do the rooms which have nice decor and a nice view outside. The location is very good if you intend to visit Dartmoor Park, plus it's a short car ride to the nearby small towns (and Plymouth). Every member of the staff was kind and accommodating.

Improvement points: cleanliness of the room - we found a couple of long dead spiders and some dust throughout upon arrival. The fact that you couldn't control the temperature of the room was not ideal, as we felt a bit cold during the evenings.

The staff were friendly and attentive. The location was quiet, whilst still being a local community hub, and picturesque with lovely views of Dartmoor. I would suggest approaching from the south (A38), to reduce the time in very narrow roads. The longer route is often quicker. SatNav does not always know best! The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The food was varied and cooked to perfection, with a quieter area to eat when the bar was busy. We would very happily visit again.

Nothing of note.

A lovely traditional village pub with comfortable rooms, friendly staff and good food. We stayed for a week but there was plenty of choice on the menu for dinner and the breakfasts were exceptionally good. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return. The location is convenient for the attractions of Dartmoor but also quiet enough to provide some peace and quiet and the sense of staying in a friendly village rather than a busy tourist centre.

Nothing really.

Really lovely base for a long hiking weekend. The room was lovely, clean and well equipped. Comfy beds. Everything you needed was there and in excellent order. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided. A real effort had been made to make sure you were comfortable. The cooked breakfast was good, served between 8.30-9.30 am. Good quality food and freshly cooked. Fresh coffee and a small selection of cereal, yogurt and juice were also available. We ate in the pub both nights and the bar staff were very lovely and the food was of a really good standard. I really loved sitting by the fire after a day out in the cold. Car parking was onsite and easy.

The shower was not upto the job, super low pressure and practically impossible to get a steady temp other than just about tepid. Turn it to a marginally higher pressure and it was either ice cold or burn your skin off scalding.

Mine hosts, Gary, Julie and James, very friendly and welcoming. Room (3) was good size with lovely view, plenty of storage and comfy bed. Breakfast was cooked to order and very good. Bar prices reasonable and good selection of food available and cooked to order. Bar also had a friendly atmosphere. The Inn is in a great location if you like a peaceful quiet setting. Not much else around but great for walks. Don`t miss Manaton rocks which is a short walk via the church yard. Also Becky Falls nearby, well worth a visit. Would certainly recommend and be happy to return.

Staff are very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Room was excellent. Plenty of tea and coffee supplied. Lovely view from the room window Food, including breakfast and evening meal was excellent. Plenty of choices for both. A lovely place to stay There is a 5 mile drive up a country lane before reaching the venue which may put people off, but it is well worth the drive

Staff really friendly and help full, room good, service good, beer excellent, and a decent choice of well prepared vegetarian food, portion sizes adequate but not massive.

Bathroom could do with timed heating, as it only turns on with limited time boost, meaning the bath room always cold in morning. Relatively minor points for improvement: Could do with a shelf in the show for shampoo, top of the shower unit is a bit difficult to reach. The carpet join near window is a bit tatty, no problem but lets the rest of the room down.

Fantastic location. Views straight out of the picture window. Room was always clean and tidy as was the shower/toilet. Great selection for breakfast - cereals, juices etc. all the way up to full cooked breakfast. Lots of choice on the menu, with specials, for the evening meal. Very good sized portions as well. Had to skip dessert a couple of times - bit gutted about that! Staff always friendly and helpful. Easy parking outside.

Wasn't anything.

Almost everything was great. Beer, food, staff, rooms and flexibility of arrangements very good. Location for walking on Dartmoor very good.

The car park is a little small which means that parking down the road is sometimes necessary. That's OK except when injured. A small discount for single occupancy (and therefore one breakfast rather than two) would have been nice - but, recognising that the pub has fewer eaters and drinkers given single occupancy, no discount is understood.
