Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, comfortable and lovely. We loved the Olde Worlde charm of the building. Dinner on one night was very nice.

We stayed in room 7 which was very clean, very comfortable but noisy. Early morning refuse collection (probably out of your control) and 6 o'clock deliveries to the front of the hotel underneath our bedroom window was not what we wanted on a break away from home. If we stay again we would want a room away from above the delivery point at the front. Breakfast could run a bit smoother, no offers of more coffee etc.. Also, on one occasion I had the breakfast bap and there is a difference between toasted and charred - my mistake, I should have complained at the time but it should not have been served.

Good location, parking available, outdoor areas, good size room.

Bathroom design not good- nowhere to put soap, need handrails in shower area. Husbands breakfast was the worst we have ever had! Everything was burnt and the beans looked like they’d been sitting there for ages- nice crust on them. Even the underside of the eggs were burnt! Not impressed. However my scrambled eggs and salmon was lovely- go figure! Not enough staff on to run the breakfast room- dirty plates left on tables- not there half the time so people helping themselves to menus . We weren’t even told about cereals….

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent meals- breakfast choice was amazing . Location was perfect for trips we had planned and we managed to achieve everything.

Parking was limited and access through the arch rather tricky for guests with larger cars although we managed ok. Whilst appreciating that it’s a medieval building we were a little disappointed that there appeared to be an issue with the heating system (it was cold in the bedrooms in particular and despite politely pointing this out on the first evening it hadn’t been resolved when we left three days later). Our room wasn’t serviced on the second day until we queried it on return in the evening & a quick cursory service then. Limited space in bathrooms to place toiletries and chest of drawers in bedroom had missing handles making opening difficult - again reported but no action. Room at front of hotel suffered traffic noise from quite an early hour

We’ve stayed here about 3 times now over the last 14 years and this time was probably the best. The host was someone new that we’d not seen before and he went above and beyond, which considering he was doing pretty much everything other than the cooking, was quite impressive that he found the energy and time to do so! The property is very old, but we love that, including all the creaky floor boards. The bar and restaurant are quite modern, but they still fit in with the old, cosy feel of the building and it’s features. Oh and the food was delicious and lots of it was locally produced, which was also nice. We’ll definitely be going back again.

We like everything about the property.

The food was very good. I had two breakfasts and one evening meal and enjoyed everything. Internet and television worked very well. The building is a beautiful place, well positioned in the centre of the small town. Great flexibility was shown to me on booking: I was able to do a lot of work, using a table in the restaurant during the day.

Although the breakfast food was excellent, those serving it could have been more attentive: I had to ask for my coffee on both occasions, and staff were not very observant about the fact that I was waiting. In my bathroom, the bath had been strangely damaged, though it did not spoil anything. There was a slight leak from the heated towel rail, which is probably a very minor thing.

Young staff were very pleasant and efficient. Food on the whole good, though standard did slip a little when they were busy

Room had sloping floor and was next to the kitchen extractor unit so could be very noisy. Unit switched off late evening ,so sleep unaffected. Bathroom a little cramped and up 2 steepish steps.. Decor needed attention. Also surcharge for staying on. Friday night, which we were unaware of,

Almost everything was fabulous: the Crimson room was beautifully presented with a four-poster bed which fitted the hotel's Elizabethan connection, the bathroom was spacious, the food at the restaurant was well cooked and presented, and the service from staff was friendly and efficient. In all, there was very little not to like.

The window in the room had to be propped open in order to let any air in the room (the mechanism probably needs looking at by maintenance). And, as with many hotels of this age and type, there was no air con. It's a fairly minor thing, really, especially given how lovely the hotel was, but it is something worth bearing in mind if prospective guests plan to stay here in the (increasingly hot) summer period!

From the start, staff were great. They were attentive, professional but friendly and approachable. I'd booked a superior double room and it was spacious. We ate 3 meals there (a lot as we were only there for 1 night!) and all of the meals were to a more than acceptable standard. The breakfast especially was amazing; freshly cooked to order with free- range eggs and local produce, all incredibly delicious.

The leather covered dressing table in the bedroom was a bit wobbly and it might have benefitted from a piece of furniture with drawers (bedside cabinets rather than tables?). A chair would have been a nice addition too. The decor in the bathroom was a little dated, but in good repair- likewise the carpets throughout.

Superbe conservation and renovation of an old buiding. I fully support conservation of old buildings and this managed to combine this with comfortable uptodate facilities. As someone with restricted mobility the willingness of the staff to carry my bags up and down stairs made my stay possible

Shower pressure was somwhat low. Lack of a lift to the first floor rooms, but helpull staff compensated for this.

The hotel itself had a lot of athmosphere, as it was in a very old building. The room was large and comfortable with two chairs. The bed comfortable. The breakfast was very good and tasty with a lot of alternatives. The staff very freindly and helpful.

The room was rather dark since the only small window faces out to another wall. And there was a large venitlation outside which made it noicey (thankfully it was turned off at night). The room although furnished and decorated rather nicely, gave a somewhat shabby impression. I can´t say why, just a feeling.
