The location was really good for Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, City Tour buses which stopped outside the hotel and bars & restaurants just over the road.

The only negative was having to evacuate the hotel at around 5am in the morning due to the fire alarm going off! However clear instructions were displayed in the rooms in the case of a fire, so everyone was out of the building quickly and calmly. Fire Crews arrived but I think maybe it was a fault in the alarm system as they left after a short inspection and we were allowed to re enter the hotel.

The room that I had actually paid for (top floor, full ceiling-floor windows, facing the castle) was excellent, and the duty manager on the day of the checking-in was very conscientious in correcting the error made by the other reception staff.

I paid for an early-check-in (which I received no refund for), which the reception had no record of, and instead of refunding this amount (as I was happy to wait), they gave me an inferior room instead, and only after speaking to the duty manager, did they give me the actual room originally allocated to me. Separately, it would have been extremely helpful had the gym allowed 24 hours access, and also if the pool closed slightly later than 10pm, since most travelers would return to the hotel late anyway, and can't access these facilities.

The location at Grassmarket just below Edinburgh Castle and around the corner from Victoria Street was fantastic. The breakfast options were great and very good value, the restaurant staff were all very friendly and professional and serviceminded. The staff at reception were very friendly and professional too. We had booked a standard twin room which was spacious enough and very clean. The beds were very good and we slept very well. So @hotel staff at the Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh thank you for making our stay a very memorable one. We had a great stay at your hotel and hope to be back some time.

Perfectly located hotel in the old part of Edinburgh, we had a great view of the castle from our family room and we could walk everywhere, lots of cafes and shops on the doorstep too which was handy. We had an issue with the heating in the room which was dealt with swiftly, we cannot fault the staff who were excellent. Breakfast was great too, a good choice and quick service.

My only issues were that the swimming pool was smaller and the leisure facilities more basic than we expected. I also felt the standard of cleanliness could be slightly better. Overall though a great hotel and we very much enjoyed our stay.

The location and convenience of this property are highly recommendable. If it’s your first time in Edinburgh. Book this hotel. Inspiring view from your window with the castle above you. Room is warm enough and beds are comfortable. They even have free “still” and “ambient” water in the hallway. I love their hair conditioner as well. Staff are nice and accommodating. The grassmarket area is away from the bustling noises of the main part of the city so rest assured a quite night. Plus various restaurants are in front of the hotel.

If I would be very picky. I have to point out that the windows seemed not to have been wiped clean well. The inner parts of the toilet can be noticed some rustiness which I didn’t mind at all as wasn’t totally noticeable.

Absolute perfect location on Grassmarket with amazing views of the castle. I did lots of research before selecting the Apex on Grassmarket and this hotel did not disappoint. We chose the balcony rooms with a view of the castle and it did not let us down, the room was spacious and we loved the availability of fresh water in the corridor, you just take the jug from your room, far more sustainable that bottled water. Check in was seamless, the staff more than accommodating of your needs and each day housekeeping came in to replenish towels etc if required.

Slight smell of drainage in the bathroom.

The location was great we loved the proximity to the Castle 10 min walk away. There are plenty of pubs/cafes shops and takeaways literally on the same street as the hotel. We walked to the Christmas markets about a 15 min walk from the hotel. Just be aware the hotel is in the Low emission zone which our car didn’t meet so we parked at Quay Park (just on the border of the zone) £22 for 24 hours (10 min walk to hotel) all in all a great hotel the complimentary mulled wine and mince pies in reception were a nice touch. Would definitely recommend and will return for sure as we loved that area.

I'd booked a Castle view room but did not expect such a fantastic view, even from the bed! Spacious room, on suite bathroom with a good shower and lots of hot water. Hot drinks available in the room and no problem refilling them when asked. Staff were cheerful and really helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Location was perfect, obviously close to the Castle and Royal mile, but also shops many of which were open over the Christmas period. Lots of places nearby to eat or stop for a coffee, and also walking distance to several other well known sights.

This hotel is in an ideal location directly across from the Grass Market, Victoria St, and the Castle. The optional breakfast buffet was exceptional and the staff were both helpful and friendly. Rooms were comfortable and elevators worked efficiently. I also appreciated the staff calling a taxi for me which is that extra step you don't always get anymore.

The rooms did not have a refrigerator or microwave and although the location is great, there is no laundry shop within walking distance. This resulted in the rather pricey use of the hotel's laundry service and resulting loss of a T-shirt.

We had the most lovely view of the castle from our room window as well as the balcony. Right below was the Apex Market Square with lots of options for places to drink and eat, as well as open air beer gardens. Lovely park like setting. The room and bathroom were very clean and shampoo, conditioner and hand soap are provided. The hotel offers a great breakfast too. Hop On, Hop Off buses were a great way to view highlights of Edinburgh.

The heat this summer (July 2024) was atrocious! Higher than normal for Scotland. This hotel does NOT have air conditioning. Table fans were provided (or are already in your room closet) for guests, but this only blows hot air around. It was extremely uncomfortable.
