The atmosphere was fantastic, with a friendly and welcoming vibe from everyone. The kitchen and common areas were well-equipped, making it easy to cook meals and socialize with other guests. There were daily activities proposed. The entire hostel was clean, including the restrooms and showers, which were well-maintained. Additionally, the bed was very comfortable. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great place to stay!
The curtains didn't block out enough light, so by 4:30 AM, the room was illuminated by the sun. However, this was not excessively important compared to everything else the hostel offers.

As I get older and get to know myself better, I'm slowly realizing that I might not be the kind of person that can get a good night's sleep in a room with strangers. But that is definitely not this hostel's fault. This hostel is a charming, accomodating, and friendly living space, and I would definitely pick this hostel again if I were more extroverted or were travelling with a group of friends. Also: I had a very sturdy lower bunk with absolutely no vibrations felt from the upper bunk. Perfectly executed. I do not know if all rooms are built this way.

Very good location Nice decarated common rooms, a lot of space for chill Good mattrace - I slept like a baby each night Usb spots over the bed for charging phone Bathrooms - well designed places with showers (possibility to lock with all stuff and still having space, also appreciate seperate options for girls) Despite having my own program now, I liked the options to join evening hostel programs (I regret not going to comedy night - maybe next time :-)
Would be nice to have a bigger locker for stuff, also had difficulties with opening /locking it

I could talk about how great this hostel is but I don't have to but the people I met there I have to... I came here looking for inspiration and boy did I find it. From all nations too. I would like to say a BIG thank you to my German, Indian, French, American and my 3 Swedish siblings for making my stay an Amazing experience. I learnt a lot about you which helped me learn a lot about myself! Safe journey home to all of you 💚🙏💚 EA out 😇
I had to leave! And yes there were tears 🥲

I like that the hostel has a list of daily activities for every guest. You don't have to have an agenda when visiting Edinburgh, just stay in Castle Rock, and your entire week will be fun. If you want a chilled and relaxed evening, there are games and an in-house cinema for you. If you want fun and hyper, there are arrangements to experience the best nightlife. If you want outdoor hikes and tours, that's also available. The staff are friendly, proactive, and professional. You can ask them the same question 1001 times, and you'll get a polite response each time. The information sharing about booking and the facility was adequate, and the response to messages was very timely.
There was nothing to dislike. Everything was good and I enjoyed my stay.

I haven't been in the common areas but I can say that it is one of the best hostels I've ever been. The room was spacious, steady bunk beds with comfortable beds and large locker (the hostel gives you its key). The toilets were spotless. I guess it helps that the people who stayed in the hostel at the time were very clean and responsible. I was amazed by the shower - it had a curtain inside so it protected the towel and clothes hanging on the door. It was genious!
I can't think of anything.

Stuff is very attentive and guiding. They solved our problem and helped us with whatever we need. Hostel location is very good. It’s so close to popular sightseeing places. There are so many places to spend time, and also there is a big kitchen that have everything.
I have seen that stuff clean places but it’s not adequate. There are lots of dirty places. Stuff need more effort. We prefer optional breakfast for 3£. There could be more variety, there is just one slice of bread right, it’s not meaningful.

Value for money is incredibly high — they went above and beyond in making it feel homey and a space to meet people & make friends. My favourite in the facility are the lounges that are inviting and cosy. Team working there are also some of the friendliest and warmest I’ve ever met traveling.
Not entirely the property’s fault — & also a caveat that I have experienced worse in other hostels — but the room smelled of body odour and clothes that need washing. Again, not the hostel’s fault but something that can be expected with having a mix of people in one room!

We stayed in the Sherlock Holmes room which was spacious and clean. The shared facilities like bathrooms and kitchen were clean and easy to use. Also, I really like that there's something for everyone at Castle Rock. We only stayed for one night but I got to check out all the lounges for 5 minutes each. Very cool!
It was a bit loud outside the room, particularly because there were bins right outside the room we stayed in. We could hear footsteps, doors closing, and people talking, from evening until late night.

The location is great, the environment at the hostel is great and the rooms are very spacious.
The bunk bed I was given was different from the rest in the dormitory, made with metal instead of wood and didn't have any stairs to get to the top bed. There was no security on it and I could fall both ways, there was nowhere to put the phone to charge in the top bed without it falling down and when the person sleeping underneath me moved, everything moved so I ended up barely sleeping that night. The next day I asked for a change in the bunk bed and they noted it down but as it was totally booked they said that they couldn't do anything and suggested me to get drunk to fall sleep (which I did) but that's not the way hehe
