Probably the most energetic and warm hotel staff I encountered in Scotland; very helpful with recommendations, arranging cabs. Affordable laundry service. Very good breakfast service that's included in the price. Right next to Arthur's Seat if you plan on climbing it, and near a university campus with good restaurants for the price.
Voices travelled on the top floor, and I'm not sure if that's to blame for loud guests or the natural acoustics (once they piped down, it's pretty quiet). It's an old (probably historic) building so there's no lift; if you're not able-bodied make sure to inquire about the ground-floor rooms. About as far as I'd go in terms of walking distance to the main tourist attractions (40 min. or so to the Royal Mile as a healthy New Yorker).

From the moment that we arrived to when we departed, we were made to feel very welcome. Kevin is a super host/owner and understands his guests; always there to chat about plans and help with enquiries. We had a room on the top floor which has a super view of Arthur's Seat - I could have stayed there looking at it all day! The room was a good size and so very comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities. There was a good selection of cereals, fruit and cooked options for breakfast and we even had a breakfast pack made up for us when we had to be out early. The hotel lounge/bar was cosy and a lovely place for an evening drink and to catch up/relax. The hotel is close to the main bus routes into the city, but also within walking distance. We had a super stay there, would happily recommend the hotel and will come back to stay again next time we're in Edinburgh.
Nothing!

Hotel Ceilidh-Donia was fabulous! It was everything we needed, wanted and much more…Kevin, Susan and their entire team pour their hearts into ensuring each guest is kindly kept and cared for. From the delightful breakfast each morning, to the social space they hold at night, to calling taxis and making recommendations…they literally saved us by providing critical laundry services to boot! Their beautiful Inn couldn’t be positioned more conveniently to public transport either-just WOW!
Not a single recommendation for improvement. It was the perfect stay

The hotel is about 10 minutes away with public transportation but its quite easy to get there. The owner is one of the friendliest human beings I've ever met. What a wonderful kind man! The room was very clean and spacious. It's also a very quiet area so you don't wake up at night from any noises on the street like in some other hotels in the center. The last day my friend had blisters on her feet and the owner went out of his way to help her and gave us a bandaid kit. The breakfast was also delicious and you have a lot of choice. For me this is one of the best places to stay when you visit Edinburgh! Will definitely stay here again when I come back. A big 10!

What's not to like. I mean, this sure was the best place I stayed during my whole trip in Scotland. The rooms and facilities are just like in the pictures. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and the attention to detail is on point. The breakfast freshly prepared every morning by Susan and Kevyn is amazing and delicious. The location is really good because you are close to the city centre and lots of local restaurants and cafes. It is a 20-minute walk to the Royal Mile, or you can take the buses that come and go very frequently. The neighbourhood is quiet, so it's perfect to rest after a day of sightseeing. The hosts, Susan and Kevyn, are simply the best. I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay to finish my vacation in Scotland. When I come back, I will most definitely stay here again and if you have the chance... do it because you will not regret it.

A lovely hotel with the friendliest staff you could wish to meet, nothing too much trouble and gave us some excellent advice about getting about the city upon our arrival. Room spacious, comfortable beds and a lovely bathroom. We were running at the marathon festival on our visit so we missed the breakfast on that date but were offered a take out breakfast which was very thoughtful and most welcome. The second day we had the hotel breakfast and this was superb , with a wide range of options to suit all tastes. Thanks to everyone at the Ceilidh-Donia.
Only booked for two days.

The fantastic welcome and manner of the Scottish owners, the retained Victorian town house character of the public areas, the quiet location, the pleasant aspect of the modern breakfast suite, the quality of the cooked breakfast, the detail into the comfort of the rooms (even had two types of pillows) there was even a little bar and sitdoonerie! It is a genuine old Victorian house with sash and casement windows, panelled doors, cast iron balustrades etc but it is warm and comfortable - revel in the character!
There is nothing to say about what I didn't like as the experience was all positive.

From the moment we arrived the hospitality we experienced was wonderful. Kelly was so warm and friendly and provided accurate information for all we needed and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was really lovely. It was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and the shower was excellent. There were also some lovely touches, such as hand cream in the bathroom and as much tea and coffee as we wanted. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and even when we inadvertently arrived too early for it the day we were leaving, it wasn’t an issue. The location is brilliant, near the university, with buses round the corner and some great local places to dine within a ten-minute walk. If we ever return to Edinburgh we will stay here again. Thank you Kevin and Susan!
Everything was just right for us!

We really enjoyed our time in Ceilidh-Donia. The couple who run the hotel was nice, funny and helpful and our room was clean and big enough for few-days stay. Breakfasts were served and there were enough options available. It was easy to get to the city center, we walked there everyday, but bus stops were near too. Neighborhood was calm and clean and without noise during the night.
Even after "repair" the toilet flushed poorly. Really poorly. It was pure luck whether it would flush after 5 attempts or not. It wasn't big deal for us, we used toilet near the reception, but it wasn't comfortable. Other than this we loved staying in this hotel and would recommend it.

Just like everyone says, this place is just perfect. We only got to chat to Kevin (co-owner) during our time there, but he's such a hospitable chap, he's clearly at the top of the game, with a photographic memory for storytelling. The location is excellent, the beds are super comfy, the bedding was clean, the rooms (although a little tight around the feet of the bed) are perfectly functional and include everything you could need. Breakfast is 1st class, with fresh tea & coffee, flavoured tea bags, fruit, pastries, yoghurt, juices, and on top of that a cooked breakfast with a variety of choices. Considering the quality of everything, I think it's priced very well, and wouldn't hesitate taking my mum back when we're next in Edinburgh.
Nothing.
