Not sure why other reviewers have complained about old furniture. Why visit Edinburgh unless you're charmed by old things? Age notwithstanding, the bed in my room was perhaps the comfiest I've ever slept in! Very near the Haymarket train station, this is very easy to get to. A Tesco just down the road and lots of late-night fast food opportunities.

The staff have been scammed and will only accept payment in cash, not card. I was emailed about this a few days ahead of check-in, so I can't say it was a huge inconvenience.

friendly and helpful staff. good location. 10 mins walk to the garden and ross fountain , 20mins walk to train station. excellent price for one or two night. ok - this hotel is basic, but the room was clean and shower works perfectly. room is a good size too. edinburgh is a very touristy city - accommodation can be expensive. when you want to save money then you cannot complain about a hotel room being very basic. this hotel has ground/1st/2nd floor by the way. there's no lift. I'm fit and active so it was not a problem for me at all.

room is big enough - so may be put a chair in the room so guest can sit on it or leave bags on the chair instead of putting my bags in the cupboard or on the floor

Its a great price for Edinburgh! It is a clean and comfortable room with a kettle/ tea and coffee. The building is a little old outside and the inside needs an update. There was cigarette butts near front. However this was not too offensive as the premises were clean and the reception was very thorough and helpful with check-in also giving information about railway station and groceries nearby. I had a small problem with TV which was fixed promptly. Its across the road from Haymarket station which was so convenient as catching train next day. There's plenty of cafes etc close by. I would stay again as the price is not inflated like other places I've stayed in Edinburgh. Good value for sure.

It was a little dated but not enough to be an objection to staying there as very clean.

The room was large and the four poster bed was wonderful. The large windows had a great view over the Haymarket. The location was fantastic for exploring Edinburgh, and the airport bus passed very close by. The room was called "Windsor Castle"! The young man who welcomed us was very friendly and helpful.

One of the shower doors was missing and we found it under the bed. It needs to be repaired and put back around the shower again.

Room and bed were super cozy. Only thing is we were woken up at about midnight by a guest screaming and banging on the front door. I guess building closed early and locked front door and this person may have been drunk but was causing a racket. It sounded like they busted open the door at some point. We found it hard to go back to sleep after that.

The room was a perfect bolt hole for a night in Edinburgh. I was there for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and I had a twenty-minute walk to the castle and a downhill walk on the way back. It was a brilliant location. The room was perfectly adequate for my needs. The bed was very soft, but I liked it like that. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The room was equipped with a TV, kettle, and complimentary biscuits which were perfect when I arrived back in the room late at night. I would look to staying there again next year. I loved the hotel theme and enjoyed looking at all the military decor, brilliant.

One staff member only was seen during the visit.

Big window with a view. Light and bright. Light fixtures were new. Reading lights at beds. Coffee and tea provisions. Comfortable beds and spacious room. TV, bathtub with soap, towels, and hairdryer

WiFi password did not work. Carpet was not clean. Could not control water temperature in shower. Water at sink faucet too hot. Nightstand needed repairs…

The hotel is very close to haymarket Station, which was ideal for me due to public transport links very close by for getting to the airport. The staff couldn't have been for helpful, lovely people with lots of info for me when I arrived. I had a ground floor room which was great for me as needed to make an early exit with my suitcase without disturbing other guests. The hotel was perfect for my needs and I would stay there again.

The bed was a bit old and springs creaked a fair bit, but was comfortable enough. The TV in room was very small and since it was on a far away wall from the bed, it was impossible for me to watch it... But I only really wanted it as background noise before bed so not really the end of the world for me.

The building is probably Georgian. We had a huge room on the ground floor. I think it must have once been a drawing room. It had an extremely high ceiling with 3 chandeliers, original cornice and central rose. The room is very suitable for people with physical disabilities and wheelchairs as it has a wet room built in. The (possibly reproduction) furniture is in keeping with the period. Tea/coffee & biscuits provided. Hairdryer in the drawer. The curtains have a few hooks missing, which bring the look down a bit. But it was really the size of the room and the lovely white sheets, duvet cover and towels that impressed me. By the way, the actual duvet is a very nice one. The owner who greeted us was welcoming and explained everything that we needed to know.

There is no breakfast and the curtains need some hooks replacing as there are big gaps, and it just spoils the look of what is other-wise a nice, period room. The outside of the building can be a bit off-putting, but it's just that the stonework has darkened with age.
