Our suite at the Lane Hotel was a dream. After staying in postage stamp-sized rooms for over three weeks while traveling, finally landing at the Land felt like we'd become royalty. Our suite was massive. The bathtub was massive. The shower pressure was massive. And our REM sleep on our massive bed was massive. Honestly, just a dream of a stay, an oasis in what was otherwise a very busy madcap touristy rush to experience all the sights and sounds of Edinburgh. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone traveling to Edinburgh stay at the Lane rather than anywhere else, particularly the Royal Mile. On our first day, we took a long walk to the castle through the city. It was fantastic to see the parks and colleges, and neighborhoods. On the next day, we took the bus from the Lane to all of the tourist attractions. Super easy and very affordable. Rather than watching tourists and their mad scramble on the Royal Mile, staying at the Lane afforded us an opportunity to enjoy an actual Edinburgh neighborhood alongside locals who were going about their day-to-day. We were even treated to a whiskey at Canny Man's! The efforts of the owners, management, and staff at the Lane do not go unnoticed. They solicit input from their guests and are conscientious about their responsibilities. Such customer service is greatly appreciated. We wish them the very best, as we have wonderful memories from our dreamy stay at the Lane.

The place is amazing. Very well styled, comfortable beds, nice spacious bathrooms with huge walk in shower. It is conveniently on one of main roads with loads of buses connections to city centre, but you can walk as well. There is plenty of charity shops and small independent shops on the street so you can pick great souvenirs from Edinburgh there. On top of that great to have jar with snacks in the room, especially after long travel or late start in the day plus normal ceramic cups, not paper cups (finally!). The staff at the bar is really nice and helpful, food is really good and massive selection of drinks. Really enjoyed our dinner and evening there. I loved our stay.
Toilet roll holder on the wall would be great, if you don't grab a roll before you're up for some sitting yoga 😂

The Hotel looks pretty from the outside and also very nice from the inside. It had two parking spots behind the hotel and also around six next to the pub. We had to check in at the pub next door, a great pub by the way - never have been to a pub like that before - the waiter (forgot his name but he was of polish decent) was very friendly and we enjoyed complementary drinks after a long flight. The location is great, bus stop is just three minutes walk and you'll be in the city in 10 minutes.
We couldn't find power outlets in the bathroom, but also in two other stays in Scotland we had the same thing - don't know if it's a cultural thing. Also the bed was quite soft - not the best one for people stomach sleepers, otherwise everything great!

Mark, the manager, was super friendly and helpful, letting us store our bags at the pub downstairs when we arrived early from an overnight flight from the States. Then he carried our heavy suitcases upstairs for us, called cabs for us when we needed to go places, and generally made us feel welcomed and valued as guests. The room was very comfortable and well kept. When we went to leave, one of the other staff members helped us by taking our bags back down the stairs for us. We also liked the Lane's location, not right downtown, but in a nice residential district with lots of cafes up and down the street, as well as having the delightful and historic Canny Man's Pub downstairs in the same building.
Arriving well before the Lane Hotel was open for the day, it was a bit confusing how to get into the Canny Man's Pub, which is where the information on-line and posted on the door told us to go if arriving before 3 p.m. check-in time . After trying several locked doors we finally found the rear entrance to the pub around back of the building in a courtyard. The Lane Hotel is a "boutique" hotel, very small, with no lobby or reception area except at the bar in the pub and perhaps it's a sideline to the pub business at the Canny Man. Also, there was nowhere to lay our toilet articles in the ensuite bathroom, except on the rim of the sinks. But overall, the Lane Hotel was great, and we'd gladly stay there again if coming to Edinburgh!

Nice looking interior and excellent bathroom. Very polite owners.
Getting the keys from the Canny Man's pub staff was somehow confusing: You have to wait Your turn until all of the bar customer have get their drinks... The room interior was looking very nice but it was quite unpractical, very limited space for cloths etc. No safe, no minibar and no air-conditioning in the room. Room was in the second floor and there were windows at the Morningside Road which is quite a noisy road. Single window glass did not block the noise from the street. Wifi was not working at the beginning and later there were some annoying beeping noises in the middle of the night from the telephone outside the room. The personnel (owners?) was very polite and handled all of these not so nice things very well.

The room was really clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay here. It's not often I am totally happy with the cleanliness of a hotel room but this room was a pleasant surprise. It was quite a warm day when we arrived and the staff downstairs were kind enough to sort out a fan for us. The bathroom had plenty of places to hang towels and room to move which doesn't happen very often. The pub downstairs is lovely and overall a great location, easy to get in and out of town from as well as lots of local options. Would definitely recommend.

Hotel was beautifully decorated very tastefull furnishings. Also a beautiful big bathroom with an amazing waterfall shower with complimentary miniatures (showergel shampoo etc). Bed was lovely and cosy with a TV in it. Complimentary tea coffee and water. Location was excellent and it has the added bonus of its own pub next door aswell, however there was minimal outside noise that we could hear in the room. The staff were very friendly nothing was any hassle for them. They do have a small number of car park spaces which was ideal for city centre. Would recommend to anyone and would definately like to stay again.
Nothing it was perfect.

The staff was stellar. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There were good pillows. The area is quiet. The bar below has tons of character! The barman gave me a brief but thorough beginner's education in scotch whiskey, providing a nice tasting and allowing me to try a few very different flavors. He was also friendly and a nice conversation partner to put a cap on my evening and our stay in Scotland.
There is no lift, which for me wasn't a problem, but my friend has a bit of a physical limitation. The room is quite small but still very nice and a very good value.

Mark was very friendly and helpful - he came out to show us where car park was (as roadworks had closed road). He then took us up to our room which was lovely and spacious and said there would be a free drink in the Canny Mans for us. Room very nicely decorated with lovely shower room, immaculately clean. Excellent location for the shops/bars/restaurants in Morningside and Bruntsfield and bus into town (@ 15 mins). We had lunch in the Canny Mans which was very nice.
Unfortunately the Wi-Fi didn’t work and we could hear a fan from somewhere until the early hours but would 100% stay there again

The room was clean, light and well presented with some nice extra touches. The bed was extremely comfortable and check in and out was simple. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Dinner in the pub next door was fabulous and the complimentary drink offered for guests was a nice touch.
No complaint about the accommodation at all. We just had some trouble finding the carpark on arrival so a clearer set of directions to assist with arrival by car (especially now the side street is one way) would be useful for others.
