This was a last minute booking after our oringinal cancelled on us. 7 of us (2 familys) stayed in 3 rooms and travelled up for the Polar Express in Wensleydale. The Chequers Inn was very cosy. Loved the bar area. Rooms nice and clean, comfortable beds. Pleasant decor considering how old the place is. Staff were nice enough, not as friendly as other reviews said, but then not everyone is as friendly as scousers! Other customers (I think locals) around the bar area nice and friendly. Breakfast is really nice, highly recommend! We also dined after we got there from the Polar Express and the food was all homemade and really delicious with generous portions! Loved the christmas decor, kids loved it. Felt safe here with the kids. I would most definitely stay here again! 😀

This was the only negative and only reason I didn't give a 10. Rooms were absolutely freezing. There was a plug-in radiator which I only noticed in the morning. I like my bedroom cold but this was scared to go the loo cold! If I had been made aware, I would have plugged the radiator in whilst dining and drinking at the bar. May have kept the chill out the room at least which would have made it perfect! Maybe something to consider for future guests??

This was a little stop over on our way up to Scotland. We were met with a very warm and friendly welcome and were able to check in straightaway. The family room was perfect, with a full sized single bed in addition to a king size. Both were extremely comfortable. We ate at the Inn on both evenings - WoW! You won't leave hungry - very much enjoyed our meal on the first night and decided to eat there again on our second night. The Inn is very dog friendly and we felt that our stay, including food, was very good value for money.

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Hands down the easiest place to stay for Croft circuit - it's about a 2 minute drive away. Breakfast from 7am on weekdays for early starts. Rooms comfortable and great value for money. Breakfast is great and the Sunday lunch roast dinners (best to book - can be very busy) are fantastic and absolutely enormous - highly recommended.

Not a fault but just a note for people towing trailers to Croft: car park is a reasonable size but you exit by going round the back of the pub which is quite tight at the narrowest point. There is normally plenty of parking on the road outside to either park overnight or stop to go and eyeball the carpark on your first visit. The pub is on a quiet road off the main road and I have no concerns parking loaded trailers there overnight.

On entering the Chequers we were greeted by friendly staff, who took us to the room and even offered to carry our luggage. The room was clean and bright, with a good sized bathroom, again clean and with everything supplied, nice white towels and toiletries. OK some of the place was a little dated but this is a country pub with a lot of history and this is only to be expected. It has character and is unique so unlike some of the corporate hotels, you don't wake up wondering where you are as all the rooms look the same. The whole of the stay was great, as was the food. This was of good variety, quality and portions for the hearty appetite. The breakfast is fabulous and a perfect start to any day. The image is of my 10oz steak meal which was excellent quality and cooked to perfection. We did have personal issues whilst staying there, totally of our own doing and nothing to do with the Chequers. Again the owner and other staff could not have been more helpful, to the extent of taking us to the station after our car broke down and was not able to be repaired. All in all a great experience despite our own issues.

Nothing at all.

Upon arrival we was net by the landlady, very polite and checked us in effortlessly. Asked us what we wanted for breakfast and shown us to our room. Which was room 2 The room was lovely, the bed was comfy and big and clean. Linen smelled nice. Pillows a bit soft but there's more in the wardrobe. Breakfast was spot on. Filled the stomach and set us on the right path for the day. It's in a lovely secluded village which is quaint and near a local racing track I believe. We seen a good few heading there in the morning. Would definitely stay here again.

The shower, the casing is loose on the unit and the pressure is non existent. Its a bit iffy tirning it on as well. The toilet has a macerator and didn't wanna flush it or run the taps for to long as it's very noisy.

The room was really modern and fresh; very spacious and the bathroom was huge. Staff were lovely and they were brilliant confirming my labrador was more than welcome (and don't charge a pet fee). The room and the pub was really nice and the locals super friendly too. And the food is really nice and not expensive.... heads up, the portion was massive so couldn't eat it all. Definitely recommend their chicken Parmo..... so nice and as mentioned..... massive. Husband had chicken fajitas which he said was rally good (again not a small portion). Definitely recommend this for the pub, the food and the accommodation.

Just 2 tiny quibbles but not enough to stop me rebooking (already have at the time of writing). The radiator controller had come off so couldn't turn it down which was fine as we just opened the windows. Would ask the chef not to fry the sausage on the breakfast as the breakfast all seemed really high quality and the sausage was ruined (maybe just my taste but again... wouldn't put me off).

We were made very welcome by the staff and locals, even joining in their weekly quiz! We had a lovely evening meal, and the included breakfast was plentiful. We were asked what time we would like breakfast, and filled in a breakfast menu the evening before, so they were able to ensure our choices were met!

I found the bed a bit hard, but that’s just me! Everything was very clean and you were provided with towels, small toiletries, kettle, tea/coffee and there was a hairdryer too

Owners and staff were very friendly. Room was comfortable and clean. Free parking on site. Dog friendly....was able to take my dog down to breakfast with me which a lot of hotels/establishments will not allow even though they say they are dog friendly. Breakfast was very tasty.

Shower did not have the best power as the head was cracked and most of the water was leaking out the back of the shower head.

Food was very plentiful and an excellent choice range. Breakfast was particularly brilliant. Room was nicely decorated and very clean.Very easy to find in a quiet location, with quick access to Darlington & the motorway.

Wifi was my biggest grumble. Despite having a booster in my room it kept dropping out and I constantly had to keep telling my laptop and phone to sign back in. TV signal was poor too, main BBC and ITV wasn't too bad but any other channel was hopeless.

The room was well proportioned with a large ensuite bath/shower room Everything was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was pre booked the day before, both time and food choice. Food was of good quality and freshly prepared. We ate dinner there one night. A good menu with the addition of specials. Portion sizes were HUGE! Service was excellent. Very good value. It's a peaceful location. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

I prefer to choose my breakfast in the morning, but understand that it's easier to cater with a pre order.
