The best thing about this place was the bar/restaurant and the waitress - what an amazing asset she is: warm, friendly, helpful, smiling. Her customer service was spot on and she made it seem effortless. The food was delicious too, and we loved the music.
The rooms are motel-like, with the front door opening on to the car park. The room was well-presented but had a dampish smell in it. The weather was miserable, and that, the smell, and the fact all the bugs had sought some warmth inside took away the room's appeal. Worst of all was that when the shower was run in the adjacent room, our shower pipes were literally vibrating, and it sounded like someone was hammering in the corner (and no, it wasn't something else.. )

Excellent breakfast, quiet location and very comfortable. Motel style accommodation with car right outside was very handy.
Really strong smell of bleach in bathroom on entering. Took sometime to disperse. Communication with property poor. Requested early check in so as to be able to change to attend funeral. Confusing e mail from ? Seemed to say OK Arrived at pub at 2.00 no one there, rang number , message box full and no one responded to text. In event checked in after funeral at 5. Staff on duty said no message received, check in at 3 and no one at pub until 2.45. Still doesn’t explain why no one responded to my text. Booking.com and Village ziInn need to sort out their communication.

The room was lovely, clean, and very comfortable, good choice for breakfast, very friendly lady serving breakfast. Excellent location in a very pretty village close to Northallerton. The restaurant and bar in the evening had a great choice on the menu. I would definitely stay again at this lovely cosy village Inn.
I was a little uncomfortable when I arrived on Sunday evening 5pm as the Inn was shut and my key was left in my room, I was informed the day before I arrived by message that this would be the case, it's the only negative point from a lovely 2 day stay at this pretty Inn in a beautiful village.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Beds were extremely comfortable and rooms tastefully decorated. Breakfast was lovely and the evening meals looked great although we didn't have time to eat there.
My pet hate is exposed mattresses and both beds had quite a lot of the mattress showing. Not sure if the fitted sheets were too small or they hadn't been put on properly but this is something I really dislike. Also the bathrooms were showing signs of mould.

Lovely food, good location to other sights and towns, Northallerton & Knaresborough are certainly worth a visit. The Inn is situated in a lovely village with a nice green to walk around too. Room was a good size for two and mostly clean to a good standard
Buses seemed to be every 2 hours, we didn't know it was an early closure on a sunday so hadn't prepared! Carpets needed a good deep clean in our room and we couldn't connect to wifi.

The evening meals were lovely well cooked and presented. Room was ok nice that it was in a court yard . But alas the tv is very poor my mum and I didn't think there was one at first and then I found it high on the wall and not much bigger than a postage stamp I have had bigger laptop screens. The bathroom was ok lovely shower and plenty of hot water
The breakfast in my opinion was once again well cooked and presented but only 4 types of cereal , no marmalade , not much of a choice the usual full breakfast , egg on toast etc was hoping for eggs benedict, but the poached eggs are very tasty but hard poached eggs in like a ball shape looked like they had been done in cling film and for to long, didn't have them again during stay had fried instead which the yolks were not as hard.

We booked the family room as it had a bath so all good there. Walls are quite thin tho so be warned. Breakfast was tasty and other meals good but not outstanding.
No soap etc .. there is a note on the bathroom wall advising they only have a small supply of shampoo and conditioner if you go abd ask behind the bar. It is soap that we needed as there was only one hand dispenser. They should have fixed wall dispensers at the bath and sink as like other places we visited. Breakfast was good but we arrived first at 8am to noone there to greet or serve us. Brrakfast was very unorganised. 10am checkout was a bit early .. this is our earliest in 14 places!

Breakfast was delicious, pub food was really good. Good mix of age and locals plus guests eating in the pub. Good choices of food. Nice puddings as well. Staff were lovely, in the pub and cleaning staff. Room 8 isa good sized family room. Plenty of room to get around in a wheelchair. Car parking is excellent.
The bathroom lacks rails in the shower and the shower bottom is very slippy, so bring a mat. My husband is an amputee, so the rails are needed for safety. We managed but he didn’t feel safe with just the little seat. We reported the lack of rails in the shower. The lady said it has been mentioned and reported before. They no longer give free toiletries unless you ask in the bar for them.

Warm, spacious rooms. Had an evening meal in the pub which was delicious. Would book as it was vary busy. Staff where excellent and welcoming. Couldn’t have done enough for us. The breakfast was also lovely. Would certainly stay again.
We had two rooms as a family of 6, one room was perfect but the bathroom light didn’t work in another, I completely forgot to mention it on check out but I’m sure if I had, the staff would have sorted it as soon as they could have. The handy man was on site early morning on a Sunday, so clearly very committed.

The perfect location if you're driving and visiting both The Forbidden Corner and York. Comfortable spacious room, off-street parking, and a nice bar/restaurant in a quiet village. Even after paying for petrol for the drive to/from York and paying for parking at the ASDA at Layerthorpe (£7.62 for the whole day, online booking), you'll still be way ahead compared to York hotel prices and have a nice place to come back to.
