I have stayed here before as the location is brilliant - right in the centre of Gloucester. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable although it was tired-looking. Hotel is under new management and improvements are being made. My room was on the second floor and stairs were very steep - previously I have been on the first floor which I would prefer. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful - one took my case down the stairs for me when she saw me struggling.

I would prefer to be on the first floor and thereby avoid the steep staircase. However it is a 15th century coaching inn and so steep stairs are to be expected.

The building is amazing, it’s massive with so much history. The gallery is stunning and the place has so much character. It’s in a great location, very close to everything and easy to find. The staff were lovelyX breakfast was nice. The room was massive and the end was the best bed I’ve slept in in a long time.

The only thing I’d say would be if you are staying at the weekend and are a lighthouse sleeper bring some ear plugs. They have live music and karaoke in the and downstairs, we knew this before we booked so it wasn’t a problem. My partner went downstairs and joined in. The building is incredibly old so it isn’t immaculate or perfect, but that is what made it special.

STAFF went the extra mile continually - friendly and exceptionally helpful - couldn't have been better in any way. They are all a tremendous asset and we really appreciated them. BREAKFAST - best when not a buffet as on 2nd day it was cooked fresh and beautifully hot on lovely hot plates. GREAT! That was excellent. Day 1 buffet of warm food and cold plates was good quality food but the temperature of it was disappointing. BEDROOM - comfortable bed with all that was needed provided in the room. ANCIENT BUILDING - fascinating to stay there; we loved that! Of course it would be impossible for the historic fabric to be in the pristine condition of a modern building but bedroom and dining areas etc were properly clean. PARKING - worked out really well although not on site, because the drop off place at the rear was so close and staff were amazing in assisting us - plus the public charge was very reasonable - maybe add this more clearly in your advert? COMMUNICATIONS BEFORE VISIT - My phone calls, emails received VERY helpful responses. (Sorry I bothered 'Roomsbooked' & 'New Inn' several times with queries.) My worries were treated with great patience, friendliness and concern as we had some mobility problems and also I was arranging for foreign friends to also stay too, with lots of luggage and I wanted all to go well - as it did!

BEDROOM - comfortable bed but VERY HOT room. Fan provided but I needed to be able to open a window. Duvet too thick - so I just used the cover - I should have asked for extra pillows as there weren't any extras in the room, as it is usual to find. Friend was disappointed no hot chocolate sachets with the tea & coffee.

Warm and comfortable room. Plus on a very wet night it was great to be able to eat dinner without having to step outside the door. We were on a Britain by Buspass adventure, heading for Lands End, and the bus stop for the bus to Taunton was directly opposite the hotel.

We only booked a couple of hours before arrival. The hotel has six rooms, five of which are ensuite, but unfortunately room 6 is not. The staff explained that this was the last room available and there was a separate bathroom down the hall exclusively for our use. In the event, this wasn't a major issue.

Location is wonderful, this is a historical place filled with what you can call a true England spirit. We visited on weekday, so it was calm and quiet (I'm not sure how it is on weekends, however). No people in the baf after 23:00. The room was clean, the staff accomodating. All in all a perfect stay. P.S. The ciders in the pub were superb! But no ghosts, unfortunately.

The floor in the room was somewhat uneven, but you could day it amplified the atmosphere of an old haunted place.

The new inn definitely has a very Quirky aspect, nothing like anything me and my partner have ever experienced before but in the best way possible. Due it being a very historic building it made our 3 night stay one of the best we have ever had. The management / staff definitely make it feel like home and make you feel very very welcome. Once you have checked in and they give you the key you are then left to your own devices. There is no restriction on what time you come in and out due to there being an out of hours door that you get a key for. Its location is ideal as everything is in walking distance due to it being on the main high street, with that being said it means that on a Saturday night it can be loud however this didn’t bother us at all.

There was nothing we disliked as a couple couldn’t fault it at all what I will say is if your planning on staying and struggle with mobility then this place isn’t for you due to the stairs to get to the rooms.

Good central location for everything that we wanted. Lively bar. Helpful staff. Good value for money.

The sub-zero temperature made the following inconvenient - Draughty bar, outside access to rest rooms, outside access to rooms. Heating went off during the night. Our 'double bed' was made up of two single beds of slightly different heights. Television sat on low table - not much use.

Just to be clear, this establishment was already in operation when Christopher Columbus' father winked and suggested, "How's about it Mildred?". It is very, very, very old. There is hand adzed timber all over the place. There are creaky floors, narrow stairs, some low doors and very few right angles. Its amazing. There is no double glazing, the beds are very firm (at least in Room 108) and the showers are compact but lovely and hot with great water pressure. Don't expect too much in the way of modern comforts but where else can you stay in a 600 year old coaching inn?

Beds way too hard for us.

The hotel and history is great with many grade 1 protected original features. Right on the highstreet too with parking just 5 minutes walk away. We stayed in the 4 poster Oak Suite, which was massive and had beautiful, traditional, original features and had a lovely oldey-worldy feel. Not sure I would stay in any other room. The bed was comfy, and breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious and the bar prices are very reasonable. Staff were friendly and accommodating for requests. Would recommend this hotel!

The live music night was loud but they did forewarn about this at the time of booking and I took earplugs. It finished by 11pm though and I still got to sleep before then so didn't really affect us too much but can't complain as they state this beforehand.

Love how clean everything is the staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us...friendly and funny they made our stay delightful as always 😊 love the way they have restored the building keeping all of its amazing features...even though you can hear street noise day and night through the single panes of glass..it didn't disturb our sleep at all...which I was fully expecting it too so that was amazing it didnt we had 2 really amazing comfortable sleeps...bed was super comfortable couldn't have been happier!! Plenty of evening entertainment...perfect location for everything, only short walks to everything we wanted ie cathedral...museum and shopping!! 3rd time I've stayed here an every time I visit Gloucester I wouldn't stay anywhere else now.

There were a few little cosmetic issues on the bath panel and a lil piece of glass was missing on one of the windows which was taped over but thats me being picky...the TV didn't work for our first night but as soon as I rang down to reception the issue was rectified immediately seems the guy is on top of everything he even offered for us to switch rooms etc but we didn't want to trouble him as it was late and wasn't that big of a deal for us but we really appreciated that nothing was too much trouble for them!!
